You Made It Weird
Hi. Is there a YMIW subreddit or is this it for both?

I have tickets for tonight at the Moore theater in Seattle. I haven't been there before but I've heard the seats are tiny. I am 6'4" and my boyfriend is 6'2". I did lots of research and found a row at the front of a section that has extra legroom. I couldn't find 2 tickets together here, so I accepted that we wouldn't be sitting together in order to secure 2 seats in this particular row.
Today, ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW, stubhub sends me a notice that their seller can't provide one of the tickets on that row. They have offered me 2 alternative options, both worse than what I bought, or the option of a refund on 1 of the tickets (because I had to make them as separate purchases).
All of their communication to me has been along the lines of, "we've told you what your options are. You can either accept them or take the refund." They are flat out refusing to actually fix anything.
All of this on the day of the show, after I have been looking forward to this for so long and I secured coverage at work so I could attend.
I have been looking forward to this for months and I want to cry.

In his first year of comedy, Ryan Ridley was sitting with Kumail, reading I'm Dying Up Here and thinking "They're going to write books about us." He meant it 100%.
I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the You Made It Weird slice for September.
Pete's kids book, Spells to Cast on Your Parents, made the New York Times list at number seven. It came up in all seven episodes.

Edit: Podshelf stays free. If you find it useful and want to help with the server and data costs, there's a tip jar: https://buymeacoffee.com/podshelf

I just want to say that some of yall were ready to invade california and burn Ojai and Pete to the ground over that intro song but now that it was changed, not a single comment?

They go way back—they rented a space together in NYC to write, which they talked about during one of Mulaney’s appearances on The Pete Holmes Show. Mulaney was on Pete’s show multiple times and appeared on Crashing. And now...crickets? Mulaney hasn’t been on Pete’s podcast in years, Pete hasn’t appeared on Mulaney’s Netflix show, and when Mulaney toured with old friends like Kroll and Birbiglia, Pete wasn’t part of it. Did something happen between them?

Eight episodes of You Made It Weird in August and the reading went where it usually goes, which is spiritual teachers, screenwriting manuals and one wildly unfashionable pick that Pete defended completely straight.
I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the You Made It Weird slice for August.
The unfashionable one was Chicken Soup for the Soul. "When I read Chicken Soup for the Soul, it changed my life." Specifically a chapter called Thanks for Asking, about a CEO who ended a humiliating request with "of course, thanks for asking."
The other real recommendation was Falling Upward by Richard Rohr, in the middle of what Pete refused to call a Rohr phase. His summary of the argument: Jesus says love your enemies, and then God tortures his enemies eternally, and it does not add up. He rates the YouTube talk too, especially if you are middle aged.
Elsewhere: Elizabeth Gilbert's All the Way to the River, and a warning that several people have finished it and started wondering about themselves. Byron Katie's Loving What Is, and the line about arguing with reality. Bob Adamson's What's Wrong with Right Now Unless You Think About It. Brian Muraresku's The Immortality Key.
The Dan Harmon episode did the screenwriting canon, Syd Field's Screenwriter's Workbook and Christopher Vogler's The Writer's Journey before he got to Campbell, plus a genuinely unsettling story about a copy of The Hero with a Thousand Faces on his coffee table.
Pete's own kids book, Spells to Cast on Your Parents, was mentioned in five separate episodes, so he is not being subtle about it.

Hadn’t listened in a long time and I was excited to see Dan Harmon on my feed, but Pete thinks it’s fine to have Sex Pest Reggie Watts voice ruin my experience!?!?!😭
What’s taking so long to remove!?!?
Positive vibes only please….

Didn’t he do the You Made it Weird intro? I think in light if recent circumstances, Pete is gonna have to change it, right? Man- What a fall from grace! I really liked Reggie‘s stuff. But wow!!!!

I bought these for my brother for his birthday and now he can't come. Willing to sell 2 tickets for 70 or 4 tickets for 120! I can sell them via ticketmaster if someone does an offer.

Pete gave this quote a few months ago, does anyone remember the attribution?

Eight episodes of You Made It Weird in July and twenty books. Pete is on a Richard Rohr run, still reading Want out loud across multiple episodes, and Sona Movsesian came on with two.
Decent list if you are picking summer reading and want something more contemplative than a thriller.
What this is: I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the July slice for You Made It Weird.
The one he pushed hardest:
The book he could not stop talking about:
Everything else:
Sona Movsesian brought The World's Worst Assistant and the new one, The World's Worst Mom, out in September. Pete's own Spells to Cast on Your Parents came up a few times too.
I track every book mentioned on You Made It Weird here: https://podshelf.io/podcasts/you-made-it-weird-with-pete-holmes
It is free and there is no signup.

Today’s episode is the fourth episode I’ve listened to where it’s come up. We get it! It’s exciting! But it’s becoming his new party trick discussion or something.

Another friend of the show gone. His episode on YMIW was one of the greatest. Listening to Glen's episode again today.

Back when Pete had his show after Conan he had on comedian Rory Scoville, and they had this hilarious re-telling of one of Rorys jokes that goes just great.
I used to watch it all the time and even had it saved on youtube, but all mentions of it are gone or marked as private. That I can find at least.
Does anyone know where I could revisit this? It brought me so much happiness, just would love to see it again. Thanks everyone preemptively.

... is there an episode where he articulates his beliefs in a really comprehensive way? He has talked for a long time about his conception of God and the universe and theism vs. pantheism vs. atheism, but it's usually fragmented references to different aspects of his beliefs, since he knows his audience knows most of his thoughts already.
Is there a conversation you know of his that really goes through all (or the greatest hits) of his beliefs that would be good for beginners with Pete?

Pete’s recent comments on the day or two that his dad was “there” really hit me, specifically the part about how going back to the office immediately put him back into a less connected state.
It sucks that so many are forced into that particular choice everyday. I get that you gotta take the good with the bad in this life, but it doesn’t make it any less soul crushing to be forced to spend all of your attention and energy in the cogs of this machine we’ve built.

I have two tickets for the 7pm Portland show on Oct. 3rd available. The section is balcony corner right row bb. My wife and I will be on the east coast and are sad to miss it. They are obstructed view but after being to the venue I think the view will be fine. $100 for the pair if anyone is interested.
