With the holidays right around the corner I got to feeling like making something that hearkened back to more traditional times. I wanted something astronomy-based, tied a little more closely to where you actually are, and with a more classical, old-almanac kind of character. And here it is: It shows the sky as it is right now over your location, like an old paper planisphere. It has 12 plates styled after real historical star charts, woodcut backgrounds (the labours of the months, the zodiac, the sea, the herbal), weather and tides, holidays from 12 calendars (fireworks included), meteor showers, and a flick of the wrist to bring up the constellations or spin the sky a full day around.
I built a little watchface for **Pebble Time 2 and Round 2** called **Pixel Today**, mostly for my own daily use, but I thought some of you might enjoy it too.
Every 30 minutes it shows a new 64-color pixel art piece tied to the day: historical moments, seasonal scenes, the night sky, sweets from around the world, and more. Kind of like a tiny desk calendar that changes throughout the day.
I live in Japan, so the default feed has quite a bit of Japanese flavor mixed in, like the 24 solar terms, local seasonal events, and anniversaries, alongside world history. (Seasons follow Japan, so if you're in the Southern Hemisphere, expect autumn scenes in your spring!)
**A quick note on the art (shared feed):**
The illustrations in the shared feed I host are AI-generated (ideas by Gemini, images by FLUX.1 [schnell] on Cloudflare Workers AI), and I don't review every image beforehand, so you might occasionally see some weird AI quirks. I tune the prompts regularly and run a keyword filter (wars, disasters, sensitive news, etc.) to keep the feed peaceful, though something odd may still slip through now and then. (In custom mode, the same keyword filter is applied, but the pictures are drawn by whichever AI service and API key you set up yourself, so the results are up to that service.)
**Key features:**
- Built for **Pebble Time 2** and **Round 2**.
- Settings and watch text in English; pictures switch on your local time.
- Double wrist-flick shows a caption card with the artwork's title and its source.
- Defaults to 2px dots and 64 colors (dot size 2-8px, 8 to 64 colors).
- Full-screen or framed layouts, clock on top or bottom, and date / weather (°C/°F) / battery / steps.
- Several switch animations (pixel dissolve, curtain, flip, falling blocks, old TV…).
- When your phone is disconnected, it shows a small broken-brush icon and waits instead of retrying endlessly.
**Permissions:** location is only used for the weather on the watch (Open-Meteo), and health only for the step count.
It's unlisted on the store, so it's only reachable via this link:
It works out of the box with a shared feed I host on free-tier services. If traffic spikes unexpectedly, updates might pause for a while, and your favorites will keep rotating in the meantime.
*(There's also a custom mode where the art is generated with your own API keys, or pulled from your own feed, but it's almost completely untested!)*
If something doesn't switch on time, the settings page has a diagnostic log with a "Copy log" button. Pasting it in a comment helps me a lot. Any thoughts or feedback are very welcome!
A few weeks ago, I released my first app in beta. Thanks to your feedback, I made a lot of changes — and here comes the biggest update yet, with new features I hope you’ll enjoy.
What’s new
- Activity journal — save up to seven recent sessions and reopen their detailed summaries.
- Session timeline — review your effort, achievements and key events after a workout.
- Heart-rate and pace graphs for the current session.
- Achievements to celebrate your progress.
- Optional alerts for kilometres or miles, heart-rate-zone changes and workout intervals.
- Improved phone settings, including session and weekly goals.
- Recalibrated heart-rate zones.
Feedback welcome!
This update was shaped by your feedback, so please keep it coming. Bug reports, feature ideas, UI feedback and translation suggestions are all very welcome.
EDIT : Had to make an hotfix for the settings. -> 1.1.1
I saw the post about wrist rash and as I was checking I noticed my health sensor was cracked. No idea how that would have happened. All this time I was worried about cracking the face and this happens LOL. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed but I'm not losing sleep over it (at least not according to pebble). Has this happened to anyone else? Doesn't seem to be impacting the sensor readings or anything AFAIK.
I’m about to buy a new Pebble and I’m torn between the Round 2 and the Time 2.
Looks-wise, the Round 2 wins for me. It’s thinner, more elegant, and I could wear it anywhere without thinking about it. The Time 2 has more features (HR monitor, speaker, 6-axis), but I honestly don’t care about those. I wouldn’t use the watch for workouts, just for the time, notifications, and playing around with fun apps. The exposed glass on the Time 2 also bugs me, and I’d probably end up needing a 3D-printed bumper for it.
My main concern is the app ecosystem. From what I can tell, the Round 2 has far fewer apps and watchfaces available than the Time 2, since developers have to update their apps to support the round screen, while the Time 2 can run older apps and scale them up to fill the display. I love browsing and discovering new apps for my watch, so a small library on the Round 2 could be a dealbreaker for me.
So I’d love to hear from you:
If you own a Round 2, how’s the app/watchface selection in practice?
Do you expect developers to keep porting and making new stuff for it, or will it stay a niche within the Pebble community?
When I saw that 4.41.1 introduced a new way to sync notifications and when a notification was dismissed (by actually clicking the middle action button and then dismissing the notification) it was also removed from the watches history I was ecstatic. Then in 4.42.2 they put it back to the old way, and I hate it. Please, make this option a selectable feature.
I could not stand how the history had just a ton of old notifications, if I want to see old notifications I would just look at my phone for those. So I started using a separate notification app which was not as nice IMO to how the stock notifications appeared on my pebble. When 4.41.1 was released and I saw that this behavior changed so it actually synced and did not hold the history I immediately went back to the stock notifications. I was happy for exactly 1 day. This morning I saw there was a update and I didn't really think about it and updated as one normally would. I then Immediately noticed the notification behavior changed back to the old ways.
So now I am stuck hoping/waiting on the devs make this a selectable option in a future release, and/or reinstalling the notification center back (which was a ok fix), and deal with that apps shortcoming for my likings.
Again please make the 4.41.1 notification handling a selectable option, pretty please?!?!?!
Three themes: Dark, Light and Surprise Me. Each time you select Surprise Me, it creates a fresh color combination from Pebble’s 64-color palette.
Nine color styles: Choose an accent color that adapts to Dark and Light themes.
Seven time fonts: Pick the typography that suits you.
Step progress: Twelve pills fill up, tracking up to 12,000 daily steps.
Your activity, your choice: Display steps, distance in miles or kilometers, or steps remaining toward a personal goal.
Follow the sun: A solar track shows the sun rising and setting across the horizon, with sunrise and sunset countdowns. On CHORAS, the sun reaches the top of the track at solar noon.
Weather information: Today’s and tomorrow’s conditions and high/low temperatures. Choose OpenWeather, Open-Meteo, MET Norway; or US NWS. Only OpenWeather requires an API key. Droplet icon rain indicatoor (one=low, three=high % chance of rain) and predicted rain time window indicators.
Shake to reveal second city: Add your second city in settings, then shake your watch to briefly see its local time, date and cached weather.
Status at a glance: Accent-colored icons indicate a disconnected phone or Quiet Time, so they do not go unnoticed.
Control what you see: Independently hide the battery percentage, activity line or solar track for a simpler layout.
These were purely iteratively vibe coded to create a watchface that I would like to use personally on my - hopefully arriving soon - Round 2. In the end, I think it looked okay to share with the broader Pebble community. Once I have the watch, I will be able to make additional minor changes hopefully.
Used to get 21 days till I hit 20-22% and then charge, now I think i will hit those 20-22% in 25-26 days, despite the fact that I tested a power hungry watchface recently.
Hello, some may remember me posting about an app I was developing, Waymark.
On my last post, I asked for someone happy to do some testing on a closed beta. I thank those who did test it.
Main issue was the map: it was slow to load and static. So I went back and decided to go in a different direction.
I present you the new Waymark, a GPX trail display with turn cues.
Main reason why I decided to use an external website to connect the trails, on the old version, was to display maps on iOS. Since this is not the case anymore, the website would have been useless except for a specific issue: storage.
Pebble smartwatches allow a very small amount of data as persistent storage. On newer models, it is higher, but we still had the issue of memory. A map can have thousands of points, and that would have caused it to display only part of it at best. I didn't want to have limitations.
So now the website does a simple trick: it simplifies your upload to return a small number of points from the original. Applying the Douglas-Peucker algorithm, it flattens most points to a straight line with a tolerance of 5m.
Enough on technicality, here’s what you can do:
Upload your trails: Each Pebble user has 10 trails. Choose the “add trail" option, scan the QR code, and access your account. No login is needed; it is connected to your Pebble watch’s unique ID.
Go on a hike: Go to your start point, open the map, and start walking. The watch will vibrate when a turn is coming up.
Offline Mode: Going somewhere without a good connection? Pick a trail and go offline. Offline mode will show a static point-to-point movement of your trail, with distance between points.
Record a trail: Want to make your own trail GPX? Pick this option and start working. Once done, exit and save the trail. It will show up in one of your free slots.
Several options are available in settings (as default choices) and under the trail menu (to change at the moment):
Direction: as the trail was designed or reversed.
Compass: On, On Demand, Off. Always on is the most demanding feature; on my Time 2 chew about 4% battery per hour. On Demand is the best option (and default). The compass is used only when the screen is lighted or on a wrist flick. On my test, it uses about 1% every hour.
Waypoints: If your trails have waypoints, this will show them; to avoid cluttering the map, only nearby points are shown with names.
Phone internet with location enabled is generally necessary for everyone; you may proceed without location services, but most features will be lost.
The app is in open beta. I might choose a different path for it, yet I invite you to use it if you find it helpful.
If you need more info, please check the guide section of the website.
Has anyone else had an issue with the time 2 band causing this kind of reaction? After I noticed the reaction, I started washing the band multiple times per week. Nothing has seemed to help. It don't sweat that much (desk job) and I shower often. I DON'T take my watch off when I sleep because I like to track my sleep cycles.
I saw an earlier thread where people were discussing the display quality of the Pebble Time 2 / Round 2. I've had my Pebble Time 2 for almost half a year now, and I also happen to own the original Pebble Time and have compared the two displays carefully, so I thought I'd share my own experience.
The Time 2's display has worse viewing angles than the original's. Even in good lighting, the original Pebble Time is easier to read at an angle because its screen has a domed glass design.
With the backlight off, the Time 2's screen looks bluer or greener, and its white background isn't as "clean" as the original's.
The Time 2's backlight color is now adjustable, but even on pure white or the better white setting mentioned on Reddit, it's still not as white as the original's backlight.
The Time 2 has a touchscreen, and under strong light you can faintly see a grid pattern beneath the display. It's a minor issue, but it suggests the touch layer still uses a fairly old-style capacitive approach.
Sadly, even if the battery is the correct, it does not fit the watch. Also, doesn't seem to work properly with the watch, even if not properly cased. So, if you need a new battery, this one is not it.
Am I the only one having an issue with measurement units on my pebble time 2.
I live in the UK and would like to have Celsius in the weather app, mph in the health app and use feet and inches. But if I change to imperial units the weather app changes to Fahrenheit or if I change from kilometres to miles on the watch in the health section it also changes to Fahrenheit.
If I untick the imperial units in the general section of the phone app, I get Celsius in the weather app.
I have been in touch with pebble support and they are looking at the problem.
