If you are ever in Portland Maine, lucky cheetah is a peanut free Chinese restaurant/lounge! They use cashews but if you’re like me with just a peanut allergy, great way to enjoy Chinese food!

For those who are allergic to ONLY peanuts, do you eat tree nuts at restaurants?

I’m deathly allergic to peanut but no tree nuts, and I mean 0 tree nuts. I indulge in pistachios, cashews, macadamia, walnut, almond, hazelnut, pecans etc all the time. I have to buy specific brands though and buy my nut butters from smaller vendors or on Amazon. However, when I go to restaurants I also act like I’m allergic to tree nuts too. There was one time I went to a restaurant and they had zero peanuts on the menu, but they had a pistachio chocolate pudding, so I ordered it and was completely fine. I was a bit paranoid however. My dad said that’s overkill and that I should enjoy tree nut dishes at restaurants sometimes. What are your thoughts? Do any of you eat tree nuts at restaurants if there’s zero peanut dishes on the menu?

Pizza sauce

As someone with a severe peanut and nut allergy I’m struggling to find a pizza sauce that either clearly labels or is just generally considered safe. I have Prego and Muir glen at home right now but not sure if they’re safe. Thoughts?

Traveling to Taiwan

I have a peanut and tree nut allergy and am going to Taiwan. I’m okay with some cross contamination, I eat about 1 peanut per day because I’m doing OIT. I have had anaphylaxis to tree nuts before when I was young. Has anyone been there and have any advice? I’ve heard there is hidden peanut/PB in so many unexpected places.

Benebone

I have used this brand in the past for my dog to chew on. They are flavored with things but aren’t a dog food. I was doing some Christmas shopping early and made sure the ones I got did not have a peanut flavor, but this is the first time I’ve bought them since my son was diagnosed with a peanut (and egg) allergy. Has anyone used these before and had any issues? The box came with an allergen statement about peanut and now I’m nervous. He’s in OIT, and I will probably ask his allergist next week as well, but just wanted to know about others’ experiences as well. Thank you in advance!

Dating with Allergy to person with AFRID

This might need comments from both communities. I have a severe peanut allergy, I started dating someone with ARFID in a way I understand those same food related anxiety so at first I was like hell yeah I can relate. I know his only safe foods are peanut butter and protein bars (from what I know I can’t eat most protein bars). Is this something we can work around ? Cause I kissed him and he didn’t have nuts for a few hours but my lip still swelled not full anaphylaxis reaction though. And for a day he didn’t eat nuts and kissing was fine. Any suggestions and more over like how long should we wait to kiss after he eats peanuts? Like how long does it last in the mouth?

Costco food court

I have a peanut, pistachio, and cashew allergy and was curious about the Costco food court. They have one of those signs on the window warning that basically every common allergen is present in the kitchen. What do they make in the Costco food courts that actually contains nuts? Have any of you had the pizza, hot dogs, etc? It seems like reasonably low risk for my allergy but the allergy warning on the glass has always turned me away.

Peanut butter chips alternatives

Hello. My favorite cookie has always been the chocolate cookie with peanut butter morsels. Unfortunately, i am no longer able to eat peanuts. So, are there chips/morsels that do not contain peanuts that could be used as a substitute? I can eat any other nut (except argan for whatever reason 🙄)

Peanut OIT for adults

I (24F) have been looking into OIT for my peanut allergy. I think it’s a pretty typical level (~60lge in my blood test). I’m just sick of worrying about cross contamination and unfamiliar foods. I just want to be able to eat whatever without thinking about it. Has anybody done this as an adult and what was your experience?

Looking for advice if I should still smoke cannabis while having a deadly allergy to peanuts

I have the option to smoke it for the first time and I am slightly worried it might cause an allergic reaction. I'd be having a pre roll. I've seen that peanuts and cannabis share proteins and could make me more likely to be allergic, I've searched around reddit for some answers but not gotten anything too solid.

My main question is for people who have smoked it and if they had any reactions, aswell if it's safe enough go through with.

I would have epipens at the ready.

Peanut allergy in toddler

My son is almost 3, we introduced most allergens right at 6 months. He ate peanut butter almost everyday up until he became super picky at 1.5 and hasn‘t had it since.

We found out he was allergic to sesame a few months ago when he tried hummus, got him allergy tested and he’s now allergic to peanut butter. I think its crazy after not having It for one year he became allergic.

We tried OIT he was very upset and didnt want to eat the peanut butter, he had less than 1/64 of a teaspoon and had an immediate reaction. Hives all over his face, one eye swollen and very itchy. The doctor called it a mild reaction and with two doses of Zyrtec he was ok. We would like to continue OIT but start with the absolute smallest dose of peanut butter and move up from there.

Has anyone had success with their toddlers from this? I’m so worried about food allergies and peanuts are in so many things.

what to expect: oral challenge

i’m (23f) going for my first oral challenge next week at my allergist’s office, since my level has slowly gone down low enough for him to suggest it. i’ve never eaten peanuts before or had a reaction so i’m unsure what to expect. my latest allergy level (IgE) was around 9 KU/L, per blood work.

i’m interested to hear anyone’s experience in an oral challenge or with a reaction with the same severity level. will i be really sick, go into anaphylaxis, etc? anything you suggest bringing with me? i’m pretty nervous so honest opinions are appreciated!

Hand soap that contains walnut....

My 24 year old son inadvertently washed his hands in the bathroom while at a business. It was only after he had done that did he notice that it was infused or made with walnuts. Has anyone ever heard of someone suffering an extreme allergic reaction to a hand soap having nut ingredients?

504 Plan?

My 6yo just started 1st grade and has a peanut allergy. We’re not sure how “severe” her allergy is because when she was tested it was actually from a reaction to peas when we first introduced solid foods. She tested positive to peas, peanuts and eggs. We’ve had her tested 2 other times after and her only remaining allergy is peanut. Since then she’s come in contact with peanut 2 times. Once was a bite of a granola bar, which resulted in a pretty mild rash. And the second time a peanut m&m that she spit out before she even had the chance to bite it, again resulting in a mild rash.

Her preschool teacher and kindergarten teacher were great at taking precautions and took it very seriously. First grade, not so much. And not necessarily just her teacher, but it feels like the school has become very relax about it. Today their school snack was peanut butter and apples and because the peanut butter was on the plate, she got no snack at all😖

I talked to another parent about it and she brought up a 504 plan. I’ve been doing some research but looking for first hand experience handling a situation like this. How would you approach the school about it? Ideally I’d like to have a peanut free classroom at the bare minimum. Homemade treats to be banned would be great, too. Or at the least I’d like to be informed of all celebrations and ingredients to be specified more clearly. Homemade goods are a nightmare for me, I can’t tell you how many times other parents have offered to bring some type of peanut treats for the class.

I want my daughter to be safe at school and right now it doesn’t feel that way.

OIT in Seattle area? or any recommendations on what we can do

Hi all. My 15mo had a reaction to peanuts when she was 6 months old. She vomited nonstop a couple of hours after having peanut butter for the 3rd time. We think it was the first time she had actually ingested any of it.

Long story short, the ED was leaning towards it being a poorly timed stomach bug instead of an allergic reaction. We finally got in to see an allergist a couple of months later, who performed a skin prick test. My LO tested positive for peanuts, cashews, pistachios, and hazelnuts. We were told to just avoid those and finish introducing the other allergens. She hasn't had any other issues since.

We just had a 6 month follow up with another skin prick test. Her wheals were substantially larger for all of the positive results (ex: Peanut went from w6e25 to w10e40; pistachio went from w3e25 to w25e55). The doctor commented on that, but it was very unclear to us if this actually meant anything? Our understanding was a skin prick test could not predict the severity of a reaction.

The doc said we could try OIT, but they don't offer it. The only places are in Seattle, which is an hour drive or longer for us. Based on my brief perusal of the Seattle clinics' reviews and websites, they seem kind of impossible to get into?! And all of them have terrible reviews.

We're a bit at a loss as to what we should do. Should we get a blood test done for her? Request food challenges at her existing clinic? Try to get into a Seattle clinic? If you've done OIT in Seattle, have you had a positive experience?

Thank you!

Edit: just wanted to provide a follow up on this in case others are looking for answers too! UW Medicine isn’t accepting any new food allergy referrals right now, as they have a provider out on leave and their current wait time for OIT is 18 months to 2 years. Virginia Mason is better for scheduling at least the initial consult— they told us February. Northwest Asthma & Allergy was the quickest for a consult, offering us dates as soon as 2 weeks from now. I have no idea what the wait times are to actually start OIT after the consults at Virginia Mason and NWAA, though.

Peanut Allergy Treatment Experience for 1 Year Old

My baby had an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts at 7 months old. A skin prick test revealed allergies to both peanuts and tree nuts. The allergist discussed a couple of different treatment options with us which we could start once he turned 1. He’s 1 now, and we have an upcoming appointment with an allergist to get a treatment plan set up. We’re thinking immunotherapy, since that gives him the best chance of either eradicating the allergy or reducing the severity to a very mild reaction. If you‘ve been through treatment for a 1 year old, can you please share your experience? What kind of treatment did you choose and why? How did your child’s body respond to treatments (side effect)? What was the outcome (reduced severity, eliminated allergy, etc.)? Thanks in advance from an anxious mama!

Multiple severe IgE-mediated food allergies

Hi everyone!
We are parents from the Netherlands and have a 3.5-year-old son with multiple severe IgE-mediated food allergies, including milk, eggs, peanuts, and several tree nuts.

We are considering traveling to the United States to start oral immunotherapy (OIT). Ideally, we would like to treat all of his food allergies simultaneously (multi-allergen OIT), rather than treating each allergen separately.

We would love to hear from families who have been in a similar situation, especially those who traveled internationally to the US for treatment.

• Which clinic or allergist did you choose, and why?
• Was your child treated for multiple allergens at the same time?
• How old was your child when treatment started?
• What were your experiences with the treatment, including side effects or challenges?
• What were the results? Can your child now eat these foods freely, or are maintenance doses still necessary?
• Has anyone successfully stopped maintenance doses and maintained tolerance?
• How did you manage the treatment and follow-up appointments while living outside the US?
• Could you share the financial side of treatment? Approximately how much did the entire OIT program cost, including consultations, testing, treatment, and follow-up appointments?
• For international families, were there additional expenses or unexpected costs? Was insurance involved, or did you pay everything out of pocket?
• Do you have any recommendations or tips?
Our ultimate goal is for our son to eventually be able to eat all these foods freely, without lifelong maintenance doses, if that is achievable.

We would really appreciate hearing about your experiences, both positive and negative. Any advice, clinic recommendations, or information about the financial costs would mean a lot to us!

Thank you so much! ❤️
