210 WB potholes

Post image
51 Upvotes

The other day there was a post about the poor condition of the westbound 210 between Baldwin and Lake. Someone posted a link to CalTrans, so I made a complaint and they are telling me that they’ve corrected the problems. I haven’t been along there, so I’m wondering if they did anything to improve the situation. Is anything any better?

Feasibility of owning an EV in Pasadena without a home charger?

Hey fellow Pasadenans,

I'm pondering getting an EV despite living in an apartment with no charger (no charger at my office either). How delusional am I?

Anyone in the area successfully do this? Do you hate your life? Which local charging stations do you use?

I live in the Playhouse District. Anyone have experience with the Tesla Superchargers on Arroyo Pkwy/Glenarm? Are these actually reliable (as in, functional and typically available)? I've heard the chargers in the Shoppers Ln parking lot are frequently out of order; anyone know if that's true?

Thanks!

Reporting animal neglect

Got someone in my neighborhood who have a dog they're neglecting. It's just left outside, super skinny and dirty, I feel so bad for her. I asked the owner if I can buy her if they don't want her, and they said no.

But she's not taken care of, I can't just let it go. I called the local humane society, and they're just 🤷‍♂️ "seems fine to me". Are there any other options?

Shake Shack fundraiser

Hi neighbors! My kid's school is hosting a fundraiser at Shake Shack if you happen to grabbing a meal there today. You can just mention the donation day at the register or use promo code DONATE. They'll donate 25% of sales back to our school at the end of the day. (If any other parents or sports teams are looking to fundraise, the process has been a breeze and they've been really nice so would highly suggest!)

Where do you go in Pasadena for arts and culture that tourists don’t know about?

I know the major museums and the Rose Bowl, but I’m after the smaller, more local options. Galleries, performances, readings- anything that locals support and visitors tend to miss. What are your regular spots, and when is the local arts scene especially lively?

I made a 10-min documentary on who paid for the Eaton fire through the FAIR Plan, including the smoke-claim fight in Altadena

Mods approved this post, thank you. It's my own channel. Here's why it's relevant to this sub and where to find the local parts:

Why it matters here: the Eaton fire left many Altadena and Pasadena homes standing but full of smoke, and the FAIR Plan's smoke rule decided who got paid to clean them.

Timestamps:

- 2:36 The Eaton and Palisades fires, and a house that survived "full of smoke" with a $2,800 offer against a $10,000 deductible

- 5:23 The FAIR Plan's smoke rule ("visible to the eye or detectable by the nose") and the LA Superior Court ruling that called it unlawful

- 5:46 Maral Donoyan of Altadena: her smoke claim was denied

- 6:02 Angela Giacchetti of Altadena: nearly $200,000 out of pocket

- 6:15 The first smoke-damage test trial, set for October 2027

- 6:37 LA County's investigation, opened Oct 7, 2026, citing a survey where 67% of FAIR Plan customers were dissatisfied

Every number is sourced in the video description. If you went through a FAIR Plan smoke claim after the Eaton fire, I'd like to hear how it went, and if I got something wrong, tell me and I'll pin the correction.

Has anyone else received insane bills from PWP?

My bill doubled from last year! And I am using so much less electricity.

With all of the problems in Los Angeles and incredibly high prices with LADWP, perhaps we should all band together to get this price hikes investigated.

Thoughts?

Pasadena Police Think our City is a War Zone

Tonight Pasadena PD is informing City Council that it intends to acquire a "free" decommissioned Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle. These vehicles were designed for use in Iraq and Afghanistan to withstand the impact of land mines and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes - a detail that they conveniently omit from the report. PPD had acquired two of these about 15 years ago. One was returned after it was discovered that they'd acquired it in secret (City Council did not know about it), and the other was decommissioned after community concern about the increasing militarization of the police (especially after Ferguson). It's item 10 on the agenda tonight https://ww2.cityofpasadena.net/2026%20Agendas/Oct_20_26/Agenda.asp

Mailbox Breakins

Hello everyone!

Someone has broken into our apartment mailboxes multiple times and it's made me feel uneasy about receiving important documents in the mail. Our landlord has made no effort to replace the boxes with something more secure, so I'm curious to know of anyone else has experienced something like this. Can the city step in to require them to replace the boxes if I file a complaint?

Sinus Problems Living Near Freeway

I live at the top of the first block of the 134. We do get soot on our house from the tires and other road pollutants. We have a hepa home air filtration unit to help. But I feel like after the fires, my sinuses have gotten really bad. They flare up and cause infections, many times I’m waking up with headaches or migraines. Lately it is more frequent and I hate taking Advil just to function. Wondering if others have experienced the same regardless of where you live in Pasadena, but especially if you live near the freeway.

Im aware of the ozone here. And I read that just east of here, the air is some of the worst in the nation. Considering moving to PNW but I know there are fires there too, although the air is much cleaner.

What are your symptoms? Is there anything you do to help? I’ve been using saline sprays and humidifiers at night.

Any solid bakery suggestions? I'm looking to order a cake for my grandmas 95th birthday. Want to make a cute design with flowers and butterflies and she would like a lemon cake.

I've done Susie Cakes in the past but looking for something new.

OBGYN Recs that deliver at Huntington Memorial?

Would love feedback on your experience good or bad with any OBGYN delivering at Huntington Memorial!

Currently a first time mom at 14 weeks and in open enrollment to switch from Kaiser to Anthem Blue Cross, effective in Jan 2027. I'm thinking either Anthem HMO or Anthem POS (slightly more expensive), depending on whichever the OB is. Hoping to secure an OB that will be willing to take my "geriatric pregnancy" (lol) come January while I'll be in my second trimester.

Any tips or suggestions would be welcome!

Donating dog food to shelters in Pas area

EDIT: thanks to everybody who provided me with suggestions. I was able to locate a family nearby who had lost their job recently and were in need of food. I dropped it off this morning.

Our doggo passed away recently and we have a surplus of frozen packs of Farmers' Dog Turkey food that we'd like to donate. Pas Humane Soc just told me: "Yeah leave it in the donation bin in the garage" which really doesn't strike me as being the best place for it in this warm weather. Does anybody know of any other places/shelters in the Pas area that would accept this frozen food for their dogs? Or alternatively if anyone is experiencing hard times now and needs some help with their pup's food bill I could also donate it to them. Many thanks.

Short survey from the City of Pasadena about the Microkitchen program (MEHKOS)

Pasadena Health Department is years behind establishing the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO). There was a city council hearing about this, and the council send the matter back to the committee to establish interest and feedback in the program. Here's the link.

Here is the staff report.

The city gave a short deadline for the survey. The city thinks a maximum of $200,000 over 2 years is too much cost for the city (...while spending millions of new police helicopters and hangars).

Some of the councilmembers and the mayor started imagining extreme and unlikely situations: bringing our own beer to a at-home coffee shops, or taking customers away from multi-million dollar food conglomerates, or remodeling your whole house in order to make a few hundred bucks baking pastries.

Why it matters? Let's say you want to try and sell bread from home. Friends and family say your product is good. You have a job and dont want to quit it and get thousands of dollars in debt leasing a commercial space for a small side project. Mehko is designed for people like you. Try from home. Fail or succeed. Expand or remain the same. MEHKO give flexibility for local residents to start a small business.

Please fill out the survey if you can. It's just 5 questions.

Here are some of the examples of MEHKO implemented at home: Granada / instagram or Loto Coffee

24/7 Breakfast in Pasadena?

Since the demise of Du-Par’s on Lake, which I still can’t get over, are there any 24/7 sit-down breakfast places in Pasadena? I don’t need one often, but when I do I really feel the loss.

Can’t find anything

I have been jobless for two years. I’ve applied to hundreds of places and I haven’t even got past the interview stage. I’ve been told my resume is great, that I’m great in the interviews, but that someone more qualified gets the job. I get I picked the wrong major in college for wanting to make money. I didn’t really get that at the time because I’m an actual moron. But what am I supposed to do? Spend thousands of dollars to get a different degree? I haven’t done nothing, I’ve done a lot of volunteer work and networking but it’s still not enough. I’m told that I’m doing the right things but for some reason it’s just not working. No matter how much I ask for advice I get the same nonsense that I’m doing what I need to and I’m doing enough. I can’t even get a job at a retail store. I need help bad and I need to find at least an entry level job in the area that’ll hire me. That’s all I need. I’m trying temp agencies but it’s been so long since I’ve heard back from anyone. Sorry for the venting I’m just fed up with this job market lol.

TLDR: Need Job. Anybody know anywhere in Pasadena that is desperately hiring?
