i don't mean the pretty, lean boys but the skinny femboys who wear dresses and makeup like mathis and lucas from virche evermore. they're always my favorite ones, but they're so uncommon so i was wondering if i'm in the minority

So I'm from Nigeria and I'm only a single Reddit post away from believing that I might be the only otogamer in my country. I have online friends from other countries, of course, but I guess it doesn't hit home the way it would if I were discussing with a fellow citizen who can relate with all the problems that comes with being an otogamer in my country.

It's not like they don't exist. I do remember seeing a post from this sub a few years ago where the OP was talking about prices of stuff on Tears of Themis and I saw a comment from a Nigerian, who actually expressed the same worry of prices that I had back then. I seriously wish I'd commented lol.

Idk where to find them cause not many people watch anime, much less play games, much less play otome here so it's super hard. I know some but they're lads-only players and I'm not looking for those (they don't appreciate the beauty of 2d and PC otome).

But is there anyone who has the same struggle? Being the only ball knower in your father/motherland?

2. Ikémen Royal: Midnight Cinderella(Chat, I just want to be a pretty princess, okay? I love how simple but sweet this game was! Ikémen Prince: Beauty and Her Beast’s whole worldbuilding is a lot more intense, to say the least!)

3. Diabolik Lovers(The music team cooked here! They all get kisses from me, bahaha!)

4. Cinderella Phenomenon (I love the idea of a cursed heroine and a cursed hero having to rely on each other to break their own and each other’s curses.)

I'm kinda surprised that many of us will play a game because of the seiyuu (voice actor). I on the other side always turn off voice when I play visual novels. I feel turning off voice allows me to be more immersed in the story, probably because I am used to reading books before I started playing VN? Anyone feel the same?

I was wondering how many Otomate game references Glass Heart Princess makes. I'm hoping an Otomate fan with deep knowledge will find this lol.

I've been buying few merchs lately, and it's from otome game. My parents is not too strict but will question and judge me if they saw it. I never intended to displayed it in my room, as it's impossible to do so.

As for now, I just keep them in the packaging box and put it under my bed. I saw some storing ideas on xhs, but mostly they keep it in transparent storage. I want it to be discreet but also aesthetically pleasing. I treasure my merchs so much 🥺

"The Whale Island" was a free otome game on itch. A few months ago the creator delisted all their games. The link asks for a password now. Internet archive has the web page saved but the browser version is broken and the downloads don't work. Does anyone know if there's still a way to play it?

Hi! I need recommendations on what game/games to buy next. I just started playing otome this year and am having so much fun, but the last few I’ve played I haven’t liked as much, and don’t want to waste more money on games I won’t enjoy.

•What platforms do you have available?

Pc and switch. I have only played some of the bigger otomate games and would definitely be open to some pc and indie titles along with switch games.

•What languages are you ok with? English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc

English and Japanese.

•How much do you want to spend, or do you have budget concerns, or do you want to play for free?

I’d love to get games on sale but could potentially spend full price on a game.

•What games have you already played and what did you like and not like about them?

Games I’ve played so far are Piofiore and the sequel, Olympia Soiree, Cupid parasite, nightshade, birushana, cafe enchante, even if tempest, code realize and fandisc, 忍び恋うつつ、and collar x malice.

My favorites have been Olympia Soiree, birushana, nightshade and piofiore.
I loved basically all the characters from Olympia Soiree. Riku and Yosuga were my favorite routes. Also loved basically all the routes in nightshade especially hanzo and kuroyuki. Birushana I loved tomomori, noritsune and shungenn later in his route. Piofiore I loved all the routes I can’t pick.
I also loved Allan from Cupid parasite and Saint germain from code realize.

Games that were good but not top tier for me were Cupid parasite, cafe enchante, code realize, and shinobi koi utsutsu. These games all had something about them that I didn’t love. A little too light feeling emotionally, too many routes I didn’t love, or in cafe enchanted case, too long of common route but way too short on character routes.i also don’t love the comedy driven games as much as more serious ones.

The last couple games I played didn’t do it for me. I played all of collar malice, it felt so boring, and I didn’t love any of the characters. Even if tempest I just didn’t like at all I think due to lack of romance in the routes. And I most recently started playing 9 rip but am so bored with it that I dropped it. I only played through kurehas route. But I’m not a fan of the school setting and how young the main character feels.

•What's more important in the story to you - plot or romance?

Definitely more towards good romance, character development and emotional character interactions. I still like there being a decently written plot but I haven’t loved some of the really plot driven games I’ve played.

•What character or plot tropes do you like? What preferences do you have in terms of genre and love interests?

Tropes I like in romance media are gender bending, enemies to lovers, forbidden love. I really like the historical and fantasy games I’ve played so far. I tend to like characters where they have a deeper emotional depth below the surface, or characters that are either a little unhinged or a bit morally gray. I also kind of love the angsty characters.

Do you have anything that you really dislike in otome games?

Too long of common routes with very short character routes. I also really hated Gil from Cupid parasite. His route has been the only route I’ve just skipped through the later half. I don’t really love school settings. I think that’s part of why I haven’t been having a great time with 9 rip.

•What do you consider value for your time and money? Voice acting, length of game and amount of contents, amount or quality or consistency of art, physical copies, language options, after story and bonus content, confidence that you will like most LIs etc

Definitely want voice acting and decent length of I’m going to pay full price.

I'm tired of otome games that clearly shows what route you're taking, hear me out!

I was playing a common otome game, the first chapter was an intro on the world and characters but after that all other chapters were divided for each character but I DON'T KNOW THEM ENOUGH!! Give me time to know them!!

I finally finished Birushana, I have a many things to say so I want to share my thoughts about the game.

First, I liked the game but it have something that prevent me to love it. Maybe is the rhythm or the plot twist I don't know but I got bored of the most routes except Tomomori (because I love Jun's performance there) and Yoritomo (who i think that have better rhythm).

MC: Shanao is not a bad mc. At least she fought (I am seeing you, Chizuru) and I like her bersek mode but she have only those interesting sides. Neither it help me that Shanao become a wife in the ending. Sorry, I don't have anything against marriage but after seeing her fighting, I would perfer another ending for her. This discouraged me to finish the routes and toook me more time to did it. It is stupid but I can't help me.

And sincelery I don't like her plot twist (yeah that she wasn't a Genji instead she was a Heike)

Rating: 7/10

Benkei: My least favorite route. He is no my type of character so I started with him and my gosh, it took me to long to finish his route. His rhythm was weird. I don't get when they started to develop their feelings (I think this game has this problem with the others too) and rhythm was so slow. The only moments I liked it were when after Tomomori SA her and he consoled in her breakdown and whe Tomomori said his famous line lol.

Shanao was well in this route maybe cause they have a similar personality.

Rating: 5.5/10

Noritsune: Sorry, but I didnt like this route too. I know that many love Noritsune and love his character too but not Shanao. Again I have a problem with the rhythm. I expect a enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers but the only moment that I feels that they are enemies or rivals was in the beginning.

It was predictable to me that Shanao would the first who have to give up and when she let to heike camp I was fed up. I didn't like her in this route, she left her ideals so fast that tension was gone in the middle of route.

Noritsune besides had a good devolping, thought I would like to see in his travel a little.

Rating: 7/10 (only for Noritsune)

Shungen: I’m not a fan of the "childhood friends" trope, but I did like the character. He’s known her for a long time and supports her on her path; I especially liked the part where he vows to follow her journey.

My issue, once again, is that I don’t really "feel" the transition from friends to lovers. There’s also the fact that Shanao is conspicuously absent here, which seems to be a deliberate choice to highlight Shungen as the "true" Genji.

Rating: 7/10

Yoritomo: To this point I didn't have hope but I love kuudere and Yoritomo had all I like from kuuderes. The tension between them, the rhythm about their relationship, for the first time i feel the chemistry and the transition to "brothers" to lovers lmfao. I think it is cause Yoritomo is no found of Shanao. He needed develop a bond with her and the fact is that others were obsessed with Shanao, loyalty like Benkei or Shu gen or like enemies as Noritsune and the plot onle move around Shanao ( the vassals for example). Nothing feels would have a own essence out MC, so Yoritomo was a freash air to me.

Well, until to chapter 10 when he known that she wasn't his sister and abruptly any tension cut and everything solve, less the battle with the heike.

And the best version of Shanao was this Shanao. Maybe because she forget that she was a woman lol I don't know, I like to see her determination in this route.

Maybe others don't like what I will say but I wanted to see more the tension about the incest. I don't care about it and I like when Shanao was so confused about her feelings to Yoritomo (he too).

Rating: 8/10

Finally, Tomomori: I know that I didn't like the plot so I didn't think about anything and I surrendered myself to Jun Fukuyama as Tomomori. He was my reason to continue the game since I heard him. I don't care of Shanao or rhythm lol.

I had problem with him, most of plot than his character ( I love him) but whatever I really love Jun voice's in his character so

Well, I dont hate the game but you can see, my problem are with the rhythm, or it was so fast or slowly. The battles were so boring too and I didn't feel the atmosphere of war. Some things were resolved abruptly. Shanao' storyline wasn't handled well to me and the characters only existed wher she was closed so the world felt empty and and transition in the romance was barely perceptible.

And I know some might tell me it’s for the historical accuracy, but this game is the last thing that could be called historically accurate—so they could have easily taken some liberties, such as making Shanao a hybrid character who is a wife while still being able to help out in certain routes.
