Because OpenSea runs on the Seaport protocol, many actions on the platform are off-chain signatures that cost $0 in Gas. Here is the exact breakdown to save you money and prevent confusion:

❌ Actions that COST $0 GAS (Off-Chain Signatures):

1. Listing an item for sale: Setting a fixed price or creating an auction requires only a wallet signature.
2. Making an offer / bid: Placing a WETH bid on an item, a specific trait, or a whole collection costs $0 Gas.
3. Canceling a listing by letting it expire: If your listing duration ends, it disappears automatically without costing a dime.

✅ Actions that REQUIRE GAS (On-Chain Transactions):

1. Buying an NFT: Accepting a listing and transferring the NFT into your wallet.
2. Accepting an offer: If someone offers WETH on your item and you click "Accept Offer," the seller pays the network fee to execute the trade.
3. Deploying a new collection contract: Creating a brand-new Drop or Collection contract via OpenSea Studio requires a one-time smart contract deployment fee.
4. Canceling an active listing IMMEDIATELY: If you don't want to wait for a listing to expire and want to revoke it instantly on-chain, this requires a Gas fee.

💡 Pro-Tip for Creators & Traders: If network Gas on Ethereum Mainnet is too high, remember that trading or launching collections on L2s like Polygon, Base, or Arbitrum works exactly the same way on OpenSea, but for a fraction of a cent!
