Question Good choices for 1-2 years certificates/diplomas

I’m looking to go back to school to find a job and would love some recommendation for what’s in demand right now. I can spend a year, two if we’re pushing it to study. I haven’t finished any bachelor degree and most of my work experience has been in customer service and warehouse.

Discussion Help me find a donor

Hello everyone

I’m a 38-year-old woman from Southern Ontario, currently searching for a living kidney donor. I have been looking for a donor for over a year.

My kidneys originally failed when I was 17 years old. I spent five years on dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant in 2010. That transplant gave me 15 wonderful years of life and freedom from dialysis, but unfortunately it failed last year, and I’ve been back on dialysis since September 2025.

As you can imagine, going through this for a second time has been a very difficult adjustment. While I remain hopeful, I am now searching for a living donor.

Both my father and brother recently completed the initial screening process, but unfortunately neither is able to donate due to their own health issues. My transplant team has encouraged me to continue reaching out and exploring every possible avenue.

Aside from kidney disease, I am healthy, active, and looking forward to getting back to living my life. A transplant would mean the opportunity to spend more time with my husband (diabetic, not able to donate) , my family, my two dogs, and to pursue the things I love.

If you or someone you know has ever considered living kidney donation and would like to learn more, I would be incredibly grateful to hear from you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. ❤️

Note:

I am blood type: O+

**If your blood type isn’t O+, please don’t assume you can’t help.*\*

Canada has a Paired Kidney Exchange Program. This is how a LOT of recipients receive their transplanted kidneys since donors aren’t always a match. If you aren’t a direct match for me, you may still be able to donate a kidney to another recipient who is compatible with you. In return, another compatible donor in the program would donate a kidney to me. It’s essentially a “kidney swap” that allows multiple people to receive compatible transplants when the original donor and recipient aren’t a match.

The Living Donor Program coordinates all of the testing and matching, so you don’t need to know whether you’re compatible before reaching out. If you’re interested in learning more, they’ll guide you through the entire process, and there’s absolutely no obligation to continue at any stage.

Question Ontario insurance almost doubling from $400 to $800/month after minor accident. Does the Minor Accident Protection Rule apply?

I’m insured with Square One in Ontario, and my insurance is going from almost $400/month to almost $800/month when my policy renews.
Back in November 2025, my car was involved in an at-fault accident, but I wasn’t the one driving. The damage to the other driver’s car was under $2,000, and the damage to my car was minimal, around $700.
Nobody was injured, and we reported the collision, but neither party went through insurance to make a claim. Everything was settled out of pocket, and no insurance company paid for any damages. This was also the only accident involving my car in the past three years.
I recently learned about Ontario’s Minor Accident Protection Rule under Regulation 664. From my understanding, insurance companies aren’t allowed to increase premiums because of a minor at-fault accident if the damage is below $2,000 per vehicle (which was the limit when my accident happened), nobody was injured, and the damages were paid privately.
Does my situation qualify under this rule, even though the collision was reported and I wasn’t the person driving?
Has anyone successfully challenged an insurance increase using this rule? Can Square One actually lower my renewal premium if I provide pictures, repair receipts, and proof of payment?
My renewal is coming up, and I’m trying to figure out what I can do because going from $400 to $800 a month over an accident with such minor damage seems ridiculous.
Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Article Doug Ford says endangered species aren’t worth protecting

1.2k Upvotes

The Ford government repealed the Endangered Species Act. It was once the strongest law of its kind in Canada. But the Ford government replaced it with the Species Conservation Act to move projects faster.

Doug Ford’s new law:

Shrinks habitat to a den or a nest excluding feeding, breeding and migration zones
Ends expert review, developers can simply register online and start work
Drops more than 100 species from Ontario’s list of species at risk

Ontarians filed more than 61,000 comments opposing Bill 5 but Doug Ford passed it anyway.

Now developers can just show up and start bulldozing the habitats species rely on.

Question Moved from Quebec to Ontario with a Quebec learner’s licence (course done, knowledge test passed). Can I get experience credit and take the G2 road test right away?

Hi everyone, looking for advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

My situation:

  • I’ve held a Quebec learner’s licence for more than a year
  • Completed the full mandatory Quebec driving course at an SAAQ-approved driving school (I have the completion certificate)
  • Passed the SAAQ knowledge test
  • I had to relocate to Ontario before I could take the SAAQ road test for my probationary licence

I know Ontario doesn’t exchange learner’s permits, so I’ll have to get a G1. But DriveTest’s website says people with an out-of-province learner’s permit “may be entitled to driving experience credits to reduce or remove mandatory wait times.”

My questions:

  1. Has anyone moved from Quebec (or another province) with only a learner’s licence and gotten credit for that time toward the G1 wait?
  2. Were you able to book the G2 road test right after getting your G1?
  3. What documents did DriveTest ask for? (SAAQ driving record, school certificate, etc.)
  4. Any specific DriveTest centre that handles this better?

I really don’t want to wait another full year after already doing a year of training in Quebec. Any experiences would help. Thanks!

Discussion St. Joseph’s Healthcare in London, ON is getting rid of almost 100 Nurses from their Mental Health Program

Just got an email today, it’s happening. They are decreasing 60 full time, 25 part-time RNs across the inpatient and outpatient teams, in addition to removing 31 RN positions across its ambulatory and outreach teams. This is all because they were in a 4.8 million dollar deficit. No one knew this was happening until this morning. What are some of these people going to do, there’s barely any nursing jobs right now, everything is so expensive. Such a terrible and sad time to be an RN in Ontario. During the pandemic we were hero’s, but now it’s like we mean nothing

Discussion Bike lanes save lives

@DougFord and all anti bike lane peoples -

The bike lanes that cost millions of dollars to install, studies show reduce traffic and save lives, are now being ripped out. Ps there is parking everywhere in this city, everywhere. People choosing not to drive are not the traffic problem.

Ontario tax payers are now paying again millions of dollars to a shady contractor to have these lanes ripped out. These bike lanes being removed will force cyclists into the car lanes, which ps isn't going to help traffic, as they weren't impeding it anyways.

When the first cyclist fatalities inevitably begin to happen where those bike lanes once existed, we don't want your thoughts and prayers - this was preventable

Love the cycling community

Housing Looking to relocate outside the GTA

Looking to live a more quiet/outdoorsy lifestyle…hoping to be no more than 1.5 hours (and that’s on the higher end) from Richmond Hill, ON. Schools and fishing are important. Don’t mind driving between 15-30 mins to drop the little one to school if and if there’s a school bus that’s perfect. Some kind of transportation would be a nice to have but not a necessity or deal breaker. Lakefront is a must.

Looking for recommendations because we don’t come from a rural family but would love to provide that for our little one and generations to come 🙂
