I Made a Thing Getting Help with Omarchy - a comprehensive guide

Edited to add preface: I am not a mod for this subreddit, the discord, I am not affiliated with Omacom or on any Omarchy dev teams. I have absolutely zero authority, so this is just a guide of SUGGESTIONS that will enable you to get help much faster, and will provide devs with the information they need to replicate, study, triage, and ultimately fix the bugs you may encounter... Omarchy is growing FAST and with that kind of growth comes a lot of users with drastically different hardware and software configurations. Bugs are going to happen, and new users are going to have questions. This document is meant to help with that, but it is by no means a set of rules or requirements. Just a guide for you to get the help you need when you need it.

Getting Help with Omarchy is a guide I've been putting together over the last couple weeks. I used to do a lot of beta testing for World of Warcraft and back when the beta tests were by invitation, then a second round of random invites went out, I was always in the first round of invites because of my bug reports and guides that I would write on how to submit a good bug report. I mentioned that on the Omarchy discord and someone informed me there isn't any such document for Omarchy presently so I decided to write one.

It covers not just how to ask for help and what information you should include, but also where to ask for help. If it's a minor issue that you're not sure is a bug, or a "how do I?" question, then the omarchy-help channel on discord is an excellent starting point. If it's a serious bug, then GitHub issues/discussions would be the optimal place to bring it up. The guide also covers how to gather logs, system specs, software versions, etc for adding to your bug report, best practices and even etiquette (you know, because saying please and thank you don't cost you anything, but could be worth quite a lot)

If anyone has any suggestions for additions to the guide, feel free to comment them here! And if you want to use the guide elsewhere, just credit me and we're golden pony boy.

I Made a Thing I made a free 25-module Omarchy course, from installation to troubleshooting

I started using Omarchy and wanted to understand the workstation—not just learn enough shortcuts to get around. That turned into a course I’m sharing for free.

It covers installation, the desktop, terminal and tmux, development tools, Hyprland customization, updates and recovery, security, and troubleshooting.

There are 25 modules and a capstone, plus downloadable handbook PDFs, a keybindings cheat sheet, a shortcut trainer, and a script for checking your actual machine.

The approach is “verify, don’t memorize”: learn how to check what your system is doing rather than rely on instructions that can go stale.

I’m the author. There’s no account requirement, email gate, or paywall.

Course: https://stevinator.com/courses/omarchy

I’d appreciate feedback—especially anything unclear for a new user, or instructions that don’t match your setup.

Themes / Ricing Retro Stripes: two new wallpapers (Wave and Diagonal)

A few days ago I shared my first theme, Retro Stripes. Thanks for all the likes! I've added two new 4K wallpapers, so there are five now:

– Wave: the stripes rise and fall in one wave (new)

– Diagonal: a band across the screen (new)

– Fan, Flare and Logo from the first version

The palette is still the same six seventies stripes on near-black. If you already have the theme, reinstall it to get the new wallpapers. Cycle through them with Super+Ctrl+Space.

Repo: https://github.com/MatthiasStaber/omarchy-retro-stripes-theme

A light version is in the works.

I Made a Thing Customizing Omarchy (a bit) is a lot of fun

I've been using now Omarchy for a bit less than two months and it's been a lot of fun! Bit by bit I've been customizing it with Claude's help with a couple of things that I find useful, or I just like.

Not sure if all of them are plugins...

  • senysisu.plymouth One for the boot screen: it basically installs a plymouth screen with the clock, and it gets the colors and background from the installed themes. On install you can either use the theme that is running, set it manually or configure it via lua file. There's a couple more things that can be configured (not sure if technically is a plugin or not...)
  • senysiu.lock One for the lock screen: a bit more information, there's the location and weather, and a bit of flashy weather effects (darker for night, rain, snow, etc). Again, it can use the current theme, or any other theme with any other wallpaper. And quite a bit of it is customizable via lua file (and it reloads when saving it).
  • senysisu.lte a bar widget with LTE connection information, and an on-off switch
  • senysisu.airplane-mode just an airplane mode button, it shuts down wifi, bluetooth and lte
  • senysisu.cpu a super simple CPU monitor bar widget
  • senysisu.ram a super simple RAM monitor bar widget
  • senysisu.disk a super simple "how full are the disks" bar widget

It is just some Claude fun tinkering and I know there are already similar plugins in the marketplaace/store/bazar but it's too much fun not to try by myself...

I shared the plymouth and lock earlier but this is my current collection. I'm eagerly waiting for a Thinkpad T14 that will get also Omarchy and this customization to start from. And I'm sure I'll be tinkering more.

If any of it is of any use for anyone:

Isn't October the season of horror and Halloween?

I’ve just released Paranormal, a dark, horror-inspired theme for Omarchy.

If you love atmospheric setups, this one is crafted for dark rooms and late-night coding sessions, vibes of abandoned asylums, heavy fog, and cold, sickly light.

What's included?

🖤 Custom Palette: Deep cold black, bone-colored text, pale ectoplasm accents, and aged warm tones.

🖼️ 7 Hand-Finished 4K Wallpapers: Upscaled to 3840×2160 with empty edges and gaps manually drawn and reconstructed by hand, then carefully recolored to match the theme’s ghostly palette (featuring artwork from r/ImaginaryMonsters and Wallhaven)

⚡Full System Integration: Hyprland, terminals, btop, Neovim, VS Code, and lock screen, all generated seamlessly via Omarchy.

I saw Oliver's post today and I thought I have to give it a shot. He implemented the Juxtopposed re-design for VLC in this repo. So I gave the repo link to sol 6.1 high effort and asked it to install the VLC on my Omarchy OS. after 20 minutes and 3 M token, it was done! unbelievable!

a couple of days a go, I made a post on X and mentioned "VideoLan" and asked them to implement the Juxtopposded design in to the VLC, they never responded, any way we did it, thanks to Juxtopposde and Oliver and AI, here we are :)

Plugin I made Phone Sync: pick a theme in Omarchy and your phone follows

Thumbnail
gallery
59 Upvotes

I wanted my phone to match my Omarchy desktop, so I made Phone Sync, a small Omarchy shell plugin that keeps the phone's theme in step with the desktop, both ways.

What it does:

  • Pick a theme in Omarchy and the phone follows, in the exact colours
  • Pick a theme on the phone and Omarchy follows. If Omarchy has a theme with the same name it uses that one, otherwise it writes a full Omarchy theme from the phone's colours, background included
  • If the two were apart, the newer pick wins once they meet again
  • Nothing to install, no ports to open. The computer reaches out to the phone over your wifi and finds it through avahi, which Omarchy already runs

Install:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Zanoshky/omarchy-phonesync.git --enable

Then put Phone Sync on the bar from Setup > Plugins if it is not there yet.

Pairing: turn on link in the phone's link menu, click the phone icon in the bar, pick your phone, and check that the six digit code matches on both screens. A middle click on the bar icon sends the current theme to the phone right away.

On the phone side it works with my two Android launchers, Hyprtile (Hyprland style tiling, in the shots) and Phosphor (a CRT terminal grid, last shot). Guides: https://hyprtile.zanoski.com/phone-sync and https://phosphor.zanoski.com/phone-sync

Source: https://github.com/Zanoshky/omarchy-phonesync

Feedback very welcome, especially from anyone running a theme I have not tried yet.

I Made a Thing Omacraft 0.1.0 is out!

Post image
20 Upvotes

Omacraft is a beautiful Minecraft launcher modeled on Prism, built for Linux and drawn in Omarchy's design language. It follows your Omarchy theme live, and you can run it entirely from the keyboard.

Besides the basics (instances, Fabric/Quilt/Forge/NeoForge, Modrinth search and modpacks, Prism/MultiMC import), it handles the things Prism leaves to you:

- Find the breaking mod: turns half the mods off at a time, keeping each mod's dependencies on, and names the culprit after a few runs. Then it restores your exact setup.

- Crash analysis: reads crash reports and logs and explains them in plain words.

- Config editor: mod configs, shader options and options.txt as switches and sliders, saving only what you change.

- Worlds stay safe: worlds are backed up on exit and before a launch that could harm them, and mod updates can be rolled back.

- Share sets: instances share resource packs, shader packs and schematics, so a pack added to one shows up in all of them.

- World sets: instances on the same version and loader share their worlds. Each world remembers what last played it and is backed up before a launch that could harm it.

- Mod sets: named on/off sets of mods ("performance", "full pack"), switched in one step.

- Disk dedup: every download is stored once, and reflinks on btrfs keep each instance's copy free.

Install (x86_64 Linux, Rust 1.95+): `curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/star-ges/omacraft/master/install.sh | bash`

Release: https://github.com/star-ges/omacraft/releases/tag/v0.1.0. Feedback welcome!

I Made a Thing I wanted a mail client that felt like part of Omarchy, so I built one: Sealwax

Post image
114 Upvotes

I couldn't find a mail client that felt like it belonged on Omarchy, so I built one. It's called Sealwax. It's free, open source (MIT), and I use it to read my mail every day.

What it is

A native email client written in Rust on GTK 4 and libadwaita. It inherits its colors and font from whatever Omarchy theme you're running, light or dark, and adapts accordingly. It follows Hyprland's corners, has no title bar on Hyprland, and has layouts for wide, half-screen, and narrow tiled windows.

What it does

  • Setup without server settings: type your address, and it finds the servers. Sign in with Microsoft for Outlook.com and Microsoft 365; use app passwords for iCloud, Fastmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and others; use Proton Mail Bridge for Proton Mail.
  • Keyboard first: one-key shortcuts in the list and reader, a command palette on F1, and your own keys in keys.toml.
  • Careful with your mail: no script in a message ever runs, and nothing from the internet (tracking pixels included) loads until you allow it, per message or per sender. Warnings for risky attachments and misleading links.
  • IMAP with push and an offline copy of your mail, or POP3. Several accounts side by side in All Inboxes.
  • Whole conversations, a composer docked in the main window, Undo send, drafts saved as you type.
  • Folders and rules (Sieve), search with from:, has:attachment, is:unread and friends, and notifications that open the message.
  • No telemetry, no update checks. Passwords stay in your keyring, and settings are plain text files.

Install

It's one pacman -U line, on the page below.

It's still young (0.4.8; 1.0 comes after more time with real accounts), so bug reports and ideas are very welcome. I handle issues and feature requests promptly: open one on GitHub, and I'll get to it fast. I'd especially like to hear how it goes with providers I haven't tested much. Happy to answer questions in the comments!

Themes / Ricing Liked look-and-feel of Omarchy, but hated window tiling and made a fusion of Omarchy and KDE Plasma

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Last week, I caught the Omarchy hype and really liked its look and feel, as well as its AI integration. However, I hate the window tiling. I'm more used to KDE Plasma and having a dock.

While trying out Omarchy, I stumbled upon CachyOS, which better fits my needs, but it lacks Omarchy's nice look and feel and AI integration.

So, I put together a best-of-both-worlds solution that brings the best of Omarchy to CachyOS with KDE Plasma and I'm just in love with my new setup! :D

Called it "Plasmarchy" to reference the combination of "KDE Plasma" and "Omarchy" :D

I Made a Thing Shoal LAN Discovery V2.0

Post image
2 Upvotes

Shoal 2.0 is out

Shoal is a terminal LAN discovery tool that shows its work: every device detail says which probe found it, what was sent and what came back. Release 2 is now out as v2.0.1.

New since 1.0

  • Windows support, through Npcap
  • Wireshark export: record every packet Shoal sends and hears as a pcapng file (w or --pcap FILE)
  • Switch interfaces with i, and Shoal asks before sweeping anything larger than a /22
  • Remove devices that have stopped answering (d and D)
  • Six new dark themes
  • Easier installs: Homebrew, .deb, .rpm and Arch packages, and an install script
  • Network access is set up once with shoal --setup, so no more sudo on every run, and shoal --upgrade updates Shoal however you installed it
  • Fixes, including devices that leave the network now turning red after a rescan

Get it

Every release is built by GitHub Actions, with checksums and build provenance you can verify. Please only scan networks you own or are allowed to test.

Plugin Stretch Buddies: a Stardew-style pixel buddy that walks you through a 1-minute stretch every 20 minutes (Omarchy plugin)

Every 20 minutes a pixel-art buddy (Rigo the Rigatoni, Mochi the Cat or Porcini the Mushroom) pops up in a Stardew-style dialogue box and walks you through a one-minute neck and back stretch.

  • Never steals keyboard focus, snoozes itself if you ignore it
  • Bar countdown and a settings panel (interval, buddy, language)
  • 7 stretches, 8 languages, no dependencies

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/talhacaglar/stretch-buddies.git --enable

Repo: https://github.com/talhacaglar/stretch-buddies.

New buddies and translations welcome!

Discussion Battery drain on M1 chips

Hi, I have a Mac Air M1 base model and I usually get pretty good battery life out of it.

I know Omarchy drains battery even in idle, but if I can at least get 70% of expected battery effectiveness on Omarchy I'd be happy, ie at least 7-8 hours of normal use. What's been your experience so far and would you recommend Omarchy on M1 having in mind the battery life?

I Made a Thing Introducing Ferricone - A VLC Redux built with Rust

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hey all,

I made a VLC rebuild with a Rust front end that follows Omarchy themes live.
The UI is based on the fantastic designs of Juxtapposed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERFeOgqk324&t=12s&pp=ygUPVkxDIGp1eHRhcHBvc2Vk

I made builds that should work on all distros, with Omarchy as the first class citizen, and will work on Mac and Window's ports soon.

I know there are a couple of Electron builds of this floating around, but my goal was native performance and a true VLC backend (so no FFMPEG here).

Please let me know your thoughts!
All core functionality is here, but I only release updates after I personally bug test everything I can on bare metal, so more to come.

Discussion GUI Apps on Omarchy Linux: Would a UX/UI standard like macOS or GNOME add value?

Hey everyone!

I've been diving into Omarchy Linux lately and really enjoying the overall workflow. As we know, one of the best things about this environment is the complete freedom to run any application regardless of the toolkit used to build it (Qt, GTK, Electron, etc.).

At the same time, because there are no official Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) or UX standards for native apps, the overall visual and functional experience can end up feeling a bit fragmented.

It got me thinking about how great it would be if there were shared design guidelines for the community to reference—much like on macOS or GNOME, where having standardized conventions for things like:

* A consistent menu bar
* Button styling and standardized placement for primary actions
* Uniform modal windows and system behaviors
* Coherent keyboard shortcuts and layout patterns across apps

makes the user experience feel seamlessly integrated with the OS.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think a shared UX standard would bring real value to an environment like Omarchy (while maintaining full freedom in framework choices), or do you prefer the current approach driven by variety, CLI/TUI tools, and tiling WM workflows?

Curious to hear your perspectives!

Support Just updated to latest and Chromium video still an issue.

Good morning everyone hope you're all well!

As title says, updated to the latest version a few minutes ago which had a fix listed for the Chromium video lag/glitch but I'm still having the issue.

I tried a few of the workarounds before the update but reverted them because they either didn't work or caused other issues that I wasn't willing to deal with.

I have an Asus ProArt P16 with Ryzen AI 9 HX370, Radeon 890m, and NVIDIA 5070. Everything else about the laptop works fantastic with Omarchy. Just this one little thing and I don't think it started until after I upgraded to Quattro.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion in here but I'm not a big fan of AI. I don't want to use an agent. I know Omarchy is built around it but and I don't care as long as I'm not forced to use it. To be fair, I did use AI search and tried several of the suggestions but again, either didn't work or created other more annoying issues. So, thought I'd ask here first. Any input is greatly appreciated.

TIA
