The optimal leaf shape for the perfect crunch
There's this kind of leaf from trees in my area that has this weird triangular structure so it kinds of stands up and is hollow inside which every autumn makes for a lot of perfect crunches. Math people can confirm but I guess it's the area, or angle, or triginometry or something and it's just really nice let me know if there is a better leaf structure out there for getting good crunches but this is definitely the best I ever seen.

Sorry to um actually, but um actually those are fruits, not leaves

They are fruits? What kind of fruit? They got no fruit in them and they feel really leafy, but I don't know much about fruit or leaves. (also don't be sorry, I love an um actually)

Happy to share more! They're a dry papery fruit, not like the fleshy fruits we eat. Im not totally sure on the fruit type, samara maybe? Take a look inside, seeds should be in there. The papery shell lets it float on water/tumble in the wind, letting the seeds spread far and wide. Also, they are 10/10 cronch material

Wow I think you're right. I image searched it and it appears to be the seed pod of a golden rain tree. Thanks for the lesson prof!

We had four of these in our yard growing up, you are correct about how satisfying they are. They are also great to pop open and when the tree is in bloom it is quite beautiful

Plant: generations of evolution to get their fruit to spread as far and wide as possible.
Human standing right next to plant: "hehe, it crunchy"

And thus we continuously crunch them on the ground in massive numbers everywhere, exactly what it wanted. Evolution wins again.

I thought these were the pods that ground cherries come in.

Ground cherry husks are more delicate but also more round and full in shape. Rather than having three papery fins like these in the video, there is a plump little fruit suspended in the middle.
(I love ground cherries lol)

Botanically speaking a fruit is simply the structure that results from a flower being successfully pollinated. Sometimes when they are more of a dry structure like this people will use phrases like seed pod, or seed capsule. But from a plant anatomy standpoint, it's a fruit.

There are seeds inside! Check the inside after you squish them! I used to do that when i was younger lol

Do you mean seed pods? Kinda the same thing. Both contain seed but one is fleshier than the other.

The perfect crunch for me are acorn cups (or whatever they are called in English).
We have some big oaks on our premises at work and some people probably already think Iām crazy.. but Iām just hunting the crunch :D

When I read ācrunchā for some reason it only registered in my brain as the type of crunch when you eat something and I waited in slight horror for you to eat the leaf, and somehow felt disappointed when it didnāt happen
