We need a reddit expert in tires or trucks to tell us why this is horrible for the tire.

Concentrated point loads on the tire create micro cracks that weaken the compound, contributing to premature disintegration, air leaks, or potentially a blowout.

Plus the rubber is probably bending forwards/backwards to align the tyre tread walls with the metal grate, putting it under more stress.

it's actually very soothing for the tire and is the first time that tire has felt "seen" since it was birthed out of the mold.

I don't care how sturdy those things are, I'll never trust parking on one

I’d imagine the one in the picture has a weight limit well north of 10,000 pounds. Doesn’t bother me.

and the foundation under it will remain pristine for the whole duration of service?

The concrete and steel reinforcement it’s mounted in? Yeah, pretty sure those are going to hold up just fine too.

Ah so weathering and washout doesn't exist around storm drains, good to know

Not sure where you’re reading that, but it’s nothing like I said. A properly set concrete and steel frame for that grate would easily last 20 years. From the photo it looks like it’s fairly newly installed. So probably safe to say it’ll all hold up much longer than any car someone would be parking on it.

Hate to be that guy, but won't the rubber want to slip into that position? So it's kinda bound to happen

The satisfying thing here is how the spacing matches.

What is that wheel and tire attached to? That's an odd looking bolt pattern.

Its a mobile ground power unit used in aviation (or aircraft GPU)

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW

My luck is so bad that I’d end up parking on that grate, and it would almost certainly collapse😪🤣

Morgan Freeman: what we have here is an example of evolution and adaptation. That tire had no side tread until it started parking there 2 years ago.

Some coincidences seem accidental, but they are not. For instance, it could simply be that both the drain and the tire profile measure 2 inches. (I just watched a Vsauce video about how the earth diameter being 500 Million inches is no coincidence. Nothing magical, just true by design)

The tire and the grate both having a 2 inch spacing unintentionally is just what a coincidence is. Bridgestone doesn’t make metal grate inserts, so they would have had to collaborate for some reason with the company that does…all so this one model tire could line up?
