Looking to make new friends
I live in Highland and I’m 33 years old (male).
I’m interested in video games, going to the movies, and watching tv shows.
I also enjoy weightlifting, but I’ve put that on pause for a couple of years due to injuries. I’ll be starting it back up again hopefully by the end of next month after I finish healing some patellar tendinitis.
I also go hiking/camping once or twice a year. I need new places beyond Turkey Run and Starved Rock.
I’m open to other activities but those are the ones I tend to gravitate to naturally.
I appreciate any feedback on this.

Discussion I interviewed Indiana House District 11 candidate Tyler Bridges about NIPSCO, data centers, and school funding
I host Unscripted with Daniel, and I recently sat down with Tyler Bridges, a teacher and father running for Indiana State Representative in District 11 against incumbent Michael Aylesworth.
We discussed rising utility bills and NIPSCO’s storm response, proposed data centers near the Kankakee River, and how much say local communities should have in development decisions. We also covered Senate Bill 1, public school funding, private school vouchers, and workers’ rights.
One discussion I found particularly interesting was his proposal to pause data center development while establishing rules around environmental impacts, infrastructure costs, and restoring the land if a facility closes.
Full interview: https://youtu.be/wzkFvLnKILg
Sharing my own interview here, and I’d welcome feedback on the questions as well as his answers. If you live in District 1 or elsewhere in Northwest Indiana. What would you want to ask him?

Know anyone needing a roommate in Hammond?
I (32m) am looking for a roommate to fill the space in the house I'm currently renting in Hammond.
Quick Details:
-Woodmar neighborhood by Walmart and Cabela's
-Monthly rent is ~$1600 + utilities. Split for 2 is about $900 each.
-The house has 3 beds, 1 bath. The third bedroom is office-sized and it I don't use it. Part of the basement is my art studio, but it's big enough that you could use it for whatever too.
-Management is strict about no pets, unfortunately.
-The property management is coming to fix some drywall cracks/roof issues above one of the rooms from the derecho in August.
I tend to keep to myself, but I'm sociable. I work in education and have more creative hobbies than I know what to do with.
Feel free to message if you would like to know more, see photos, or vibe check. 😎

Question ISO Open Field for Pumpkin Launching
Hey!
I’m looking for someone in the NWI area with private property open field/yard space (\~min 150x150ft area) who is open to me and some friends launching some pumpkins in it. Will pay cash, $75+, negotiable.
I recently finished turning a washing machine into a powerful mechanical slingshot. It functions by the original direct drive washing machine motor driving a large steel gearbox and boat winch strap, with the main drum suspended on springs that is pulled backwards and then released all at once, sending whatever is in the drum flying out the front. It can send a 10lb pumpkin about 40 feet (photos attached).
Ideally looking for someone who loves mythbusters/top gear type projects and would like to make a bit of cash for allowing us to do this on their property.
We will leave no trace besides possibly some marks in the dirt or grass. All of us are professional engineers in our mid 20’s.
The date we are aiming to do this is Saturday, October 24th, likely a half-full day project.
Please comment or DM me if you have a space and are interested.

Discussion Those who knew Micah in NWI
Hello everyone! I'm hoping to reach people in the Northwest Indiana area who may have known my boyfriend's brother, Micah Eroles, or his family. I had no luck finding any other groups to post this in. My boyfriend and his family have lived in the Hobart, Valparaiso, Gary, and Starke County areas over the years. Sadly, Micah recently passed away, and his celebration of life is taking place this weekend.
I wanted to reach out here in hopes of connecting with anyone who knew Micah, his brothers Angelo and Adri, or any members of the Eroles/DeVault family.
Here is Micah's obituary: Michael Alexavier Eroles Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information
Please share any memories or stories of Micah on the memory wall!
I've also included the family's GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/40ad835d9
The GoFundMe update includes information about Micah's celebration of life for anyone who knew him and would like to attend.
Micah was a very funny and intelligent person, and he had just gotten a job as a paramedic. He had so much ahead of him, and his passing has left the entire family heartbroken. If you knew Micah or the family, we'd really appreciate you sharing any memories you have of him, reaching out, or simply keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time! The family could use all and any support they can get! Thank you❤️

Discussion For all y'all complaining about NIPSCO bills
Shit starts at the top. We're paying more for a coal plant in Wheatfield that was scheduled to be retired. And the current Federal Regulatory Commission approved it.

Question Fellow healthcare workers..
Hello everyone, Me and my boyfriend are moving to NWI (Highland specifically) and I have experience working in healthcare for the past three years and I am wondering what’s the better pay hospitals to work for around the area? If someone could help me out that would be great, thank you! :)

Region roofing
Has anyone dealt with them? After the storm a couple months back I had no problem with the adjusters coming out, but I’ve been trying to get a hold of them with no luck about when the work will be done. Has anyone else had that problem?

Seeking Recommendations ISO Short-Term Rental in Lake or Porter County
Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a house, apartment, or townhouse to rent for approximately 3 to 4 months for <$1600 a month.
I was originally supposed to move into a house on October 1st, but some unexpected renovation issues are delaying my move-in date.
In the meantime, I’m looking for a temporary place to stay while everything gets sorted out. I’ve been staying in a hotel and keeping my belongings in storage, so I’m hoping to find something more comfortable and affordable without going through a traditional apartment application process or committing to a full-term lease.
I’m open to anywhere in Lake or Porter County, Indiana, but Merrillville would be ideal. I do have one cat, so the property would need to be pet-friendly.
I’ve looked into Airbnb and other short-term options, but the monthly rates have been pretty steep(I really dont want to pay anything over $2000) I’d love to connect with anyone who has a private rental available, knows a landlord who offers flexible lease terms, or has recommendations for finding something affordable.
If you have anything available or know someone who might, I’d really appreciate any leads. Thank you!

Upcoming School Referendum for Lowell
Tri-Creek School Corp. just shared this video about their upcoming referendum to help save their buses and extra curricular programs from being cut after Gov. Braun cut school funding state-wide last year.
I heard about this on the news, but this got me completely choked up. I wish I lived in their district so I could support them.

CNA jobs NWI
I would like to become a CNA but have no medical experience and do not have a certification. Does anyone have any experience of which places are the cheapest to become certified as well as which hospitals pay the best for CNAs?

I am so shocked to hear this from my dad
We just got our NIPSCO Bill only to find out it was $260 for electricity and 52 for natural gas.
Our bill last month was $396 I wanted to know how they cut it in half. Do you think they're just trying to win us back by lowering are bills or they just trying to prepare us for something. I don't think the AWS data center in New Carlisle even takes up that much. Technically it's already an operational. I'm not sure but Genco is a separate part of NIPSCO and technically we should be paying the costs because Amazon states they will pay for it.
I'm not mad at the data center because I use eero with Frontier and I like it because it's Wi-Fi 7 and simple. I just have no opinion on data centers as a whole. I rely on them on an average day so I can't argue to get rid of all.
Take Equinix CH1 in Chicago for example that data center was built in 2001 and is still operating.
