Today I finally ascended for the first time. Played Rogue back in the mid-to-late '80s, then Hack, Moria, and eventually some NetHack. I never actually found the amulet (or beat the balrog in Moria). I rediscovered NetHack again this past winter and vowed to finally capture the amulet of Yendor.

Played some games locally, then decided that if I was going to do this, I wanted it to be on a server and made an account on alt.org's server. I had set the game aside for a while with my kit assembled when life got busy, then picked it back up a few days ago. I was partly busy with life, and partly because Gehennom sounded scary. As it turned out, I had over-prepared, and literally every step of the way was cake. The lowest HP I experienced on my run was on the Astral Plane at 189 of 231, after I adopted what I dubbed the "just ignore em" strategy.

I pretty much found everything I could have wanted for my kit, but I almost screwed up on the Plane of Water by forgetting to put my bag of holding in the oilskin sack, but luckily, the gold detection scrolls were unaffected. The game took forever because the RNG simply refused to give me a cone of cold spellbook (it was the 34th book, IIRC). OTOH the RNG gave me a bones file with the key of Master Thievery in the Valley of the Dead, so I'm calling it even :)

Does anyone else have a 3.6.7 game on alt.org that might ascend?
