Everybody should be rooting for Ben Simmons to make a comeback

Him succeeding this year would be the most public positive case of a working professional taking an exteeended mental health break to the benefit of everyone

It's a win win. We either get a great mental health turnaround story.

Or

Kangz memes

Ben Simmons doesn’t owe us anything realistically

42

u/iButtflap Hornets 2h ago

nor we him. we live in a society comment

11

u/DrMarvMonror 3h ago

Maybe not us but he owes himself and his god given basketball talent

2

u/guesting Warriors 2h ago

Then was partly Phil’s pitch to mj. Don’t withhold your gifts

"god given", rofl

The whole country is sick of you fake religious fucks.

•

u/kasumikui 2m ago

No offense, but "god-given" is just an idiom and doesn't necessarily have any deeper meaning.

I hate fake-religious types, too, but if I sneeze and someone says "bless you" I just say "thanks".

•

u/laeve Bulls 13m ago

Why are you so upset get a grip little buddy

0

u/ViriditasBiologia 1h ago

If you really believe his talent is God-given and not genetic? You are a delusional fool.

4

u/DrMarvMonror 47m ago

Call it what you will. He has the talent other players can only dream about. Would be a disservice to himself to not maximize what he can.

•

u/HOFredditor Warriors 13m ago

Bruh this wasn’t a debate you needed to stir up.

-6

u/Sensitive-Pool-7563 2h ago

No he doesn't, bro is made up for life.

You're flipping burgers while he's been roty, all nba etc

These are all stupid narratives by fans

2

u/DrMarvMonror 2h ago

It’s more than just money. Ben Simmons can still build a basketball legacy. It’s for the love of the sport.

1

u/GoodSalad05 Warriors 2h ago

The point of life isn’t just to coast on what you’ve been given and be rich

-1

u/420_69_Fake_Account 42m ago

He owes me for his shitty ass performances when I had money on his ass!

29

u/shinnygummy Pistons 3h ago

I owe him nothing; he owes me nothing.

23

u/Renzel0311 3h ago

Mental health is important but Ben himself said he gave himself a proper time to heal from his back. The non athlete is told to not even try to bend over during back surgery recovery so keep that in mind

23

u/kdfailshot123 76ers 2h ago

Working profession lol. Even as a Sixer fan, I do actually like Ben. His first 4-5 years were actually very exciting to watch and his defense was spectacular.

But please bro, he plays basketball. In the words of Charles Barkley - he got paid massive amounts of money to dribble a stupid basketball. Brain surgeons and cardiologist don't need year long breaks to get their mind right and they have real job thats actually fucking matter.

So seriously, I do hope Ben does well, but come the fuck on bro. Less dramatic please.

u/ubiquitouswonder Spurs 2h ago

I don’t care either way about Ben Simmons but I’m sure there are doctors who could benefit from extended breaks. Have you looked at our healthcare system lately…?

2

u/anayalator39 43m ago

I can’t be the only one that read the Barkley quote in his voice 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Artistic-Lecture-888 45m ago

Do brain surgeons have millions of people micro-analyzing their performance?

•

u/mccainjames11 [POR] Damian Lillard 9m ago

What a stupid question lol do you really think a brain surgeon feels less pressure than a professional athlete? One has people’s lives on the line and the other is Ben Simmons

-6

u/After-Analysis1146 2h ago

Ben was trying to compete against the world’s great athletes with a back injury.

Dr’s need to sit or stand. Also note… a lot of surgeons only operate 2-3 days a week max. Dr’s and surgeons are brilliant, but there’s a bit of a physical body use difference between steady hand and chasing around Steph Curry, or trying to guard Giannis.

2

u/jandb25 30m ago

you missing the whole damn point. this isn’t about doctors. the point is most people don’t have the luxury of taking extended breaks because them bills aren’t going to pay themselves. i’ve known quite a few construction workers that were dealing with serious medical issues still getting up 4am m-f to drive an hour one way to work a 10+ hour shift in shitty conditions. not gonna get any sympathy from the common folk here.

Athletes making documentaries about themselves has to stop

u/iButtflap Hornets 2h ago

how does everyone benefit? multi millionaire basketball player takes vacation from working and then comes back making significantly less with basement level expectations isn’t exactly something most people can afford to replicate in their daily lives. nor will companies allow

8

u/GenericUser584 Warriors 2h ago

Ben Simmons will lead the Kings all the way to NBA Finals against the 76ers, and then score 76 points on 76% TS on game 7 along with a game-sealing post dunk, and win the Finals MVP.

Edit: And after winning the championship, his first words are 'LeBron, we are good. I am here.'

4

u/FantasticFox1641 Lakers 3h ago

Until he airballs or something and we see 100 different posts trashing him

4

u/Fafoah Bulls 2h ago

I hope he does because i honestly think a bunch of players could revive their careers by taking a year off.

4

u/StrtupJ Heat 2h ago

Man even if I cared there’s close to a 0 percent chance I’m paying any attention to the Kings this year

9

u/Countryb0i2m Hornets 2h ago

Of all the guys who had a ton of potential, didn’t live up to it, and washed out of the NBA, why is Ben Simmons the guy we should care about making a comeback?

-1

u/DrMarvMonror 2h ago

Because he still has time to turn it around. Would’ve loved to see a DRose resurgence but it’s too late for that.

6

u/withdensemilk Knicks 3h ago

Why?

2

u/LinuxDootTP [POR] C.J. McCollum 2h ago

if it was back problems all along i would be so thrilled to see him happy, healthy and hungry. i think everyone is reasonably doubtful because its seemed like he has had no passion or has just been apathetic and uncaring.

2

u/Fit_Commercial_9438 1h ago

The topic of Ben Simmons is interesting. It’s always the same recycled jokes and pessimism about him. NBA posted about his comeback and it was just the same unoriginal slander. Like atleast be creative idk

2

u/eldreamer86 1h ago

Unfortunately, I was born poor, so I'm forced to keep on going to my job, regardless of my health conditions.

2

u/RequirementLeading12 Lakers 34m ago

Idgaf about Ben Simmons lol

7

u/amh85 NBA 2h ago

You mean a public case of a an millionaire fucking off for a year because he doesn't need to work

As a Nets fan, I hope he sucks

2

u/keeponrollingbaby Raptors 2h ago

He does suck, no way he makes a comeback strong enough to change the image he curated these last years. If he pulls off some sort of Bensanity run that actually leads to something ill happily eat my words

4

u/goodnightmrdoback 76ers 3h ago

Sure but he’s going to suck.

1

u/AdFeeling6573 Kings 3h ago

Looked decent tonight but I bet he will not play more than 2/3 of the games

5

u/samurai-mad-mad 76ers 2h ago

nah

4

u/Leno-Sapien 2h ago

It would be a great thing to see because he got thrown under the bus by Doc and Embiid, two people notorious for their lack of taking accountability.

2

u/a_large_plant Celtics 3h ago

Call me crazy but Simone Biles break and comeback might be slightly more impressive when it's all said and done

3

u/tickub [NYK] Latrell Sprewell 2h ago

And Ashleigh Barty. And Alysa Liu.

3

u/RealLanceStorm Nets 3h ago

On a platform where it's common to rip apart people to extreme levels for public perceptions and groupthink sports narratives....

Jaylen Brown is a villain because Bill Simmons wants him to know his place. Shai is discredited because of how NBA refs call games. LeBron is a phony who never should get benefit of the doubt.

But Ben Simmons is who we must empower and hype up after all his BS because he's one of the few who can take a full year off.

Most people who get trashed online get impacted on a mental health level so maybe that should count for everyone?

3

u/DrMarvMonror 2h ago

It should

2

u/OrganicImpression428 3h ago

yeah i guess bro

2

u/Content-Magician-789 2h ago

It would do the league some good. Perfect timing too with guys like Kawhi and Dame returning to their old teams, Kyrie and Hali coming back from injury, LeBron, Ja, Giannis on new teams. This year feels very cinematic and reminiscent of late 2010s NBA hype

2

u/CustardLimp359 Celtics 2h ago

I'm rooting for him

He can afford to take a mental health break the average person cant.

1

u/Geroniimo 1h ago

He aint doing shit on our bumass team

1

u/FuckinArrowToTheKnee Hawks 1h ago

Bruh stop with the parasocial shit these rich assholes do not give a fuck about you and don't owe us anything and we don't owe them

1

u/samurairocketshark Suns 1h ago

I'm not sure this is the best place to assume people care about players' mental health. Let alone someone like Ben Simmons who hasn't exactly had the most favorable PR

1

u/Longjumping_Idea5261 Knicks 56m ago

As long as he’s motivated and takes accountability as a professional basketball player, then im all for him.

But the way he never worked on his game and kinda gave up on the game was very unprofessional and easy to root against him. He was an entitled player and thought he was good enough. Hopefully he comes humble now

1

u/DolphinRodeo Spain 55m ago

Reddit likes to act like athletes who are injured are being lazy or faking to get out of playing. There aren’t many people here who are grown up enough to get it

1

u/Xsy Jazz 55m ago

This is a cute sentiment, but millionaires could already do whatever the fuck they felt like, this does nothing for the average worker, lol.

Michael Jordan already did this better anyway.

1

u/jandb25 41m ago

i don’t know about “to the benefit of everyone” but I’m glad he didn’t go the Delonte West route.

1

u/Worluvus NBA 34m ago

It's good for a mental health story but we don't benefit from this at all.

u/lonegunman77 Kings 27m ago

I’ve honestly just always liked his game. Ya it’s flawed, but he’s always been fun to watch for me. So for that reason alone I hope this comeback is legit

Mental health awareness is good

Please. Dude broke his back.

I do hope he does well.

1

u/TastyPoopKnife 2h ago

Ben Simmons is a dog with fleas and it’s embarrassing that an NBA team would still pay him to play basketball. But that’s why GOD invented the Sacramento Kings. He will soon star in a remake of The Wizard of Oz as the Tin Man because he has no heart. Mental Health my ass!

-1

u/BadNewsBrown 76ers 2h ago

He’s a bitch. He had to go away for a year to forget that he was shooting the basketball with the wrong hand. Let him get the benefits and then walk away

1

u/sliceoflife09 Rockets 2h ago

He's the new Royce White. Prove me wrong

1

u/GardenRafters Celtics 2h ago

No.

1

u/ChuzzoChumz 2h ago

No I don’t think I will. He’s done nothing to earn any kind of support and plenty to lose it. It’s shocking that anyone in the league still gives that guy a contract

1

u/Prime255 2h ago

He's only doing this to get the pension you only get if you have a 10-year NBA career, but hopefully it works out for him and he can earn more money through a contract renewal or bigger deal. His biggest issue has always been himself, he's always been talented enough

1

u/philliesman4 76ers 1h ago

No

0

u/Torkoal-Admiral 2h ago

Why the fuck would I? Fuck that guy.

0

u/AfricanWarPig Supersonics 2h ago

but rooting for Ben Simmons doesn't get me friend points with other narrow-minded jerkoffs.

btw if you vote republican you're a satan nazi. Old white men don't care about your mental health!

No. The dude is a certified scrub. Can’t shoot a solid J to save his life

-1

u/Yellowperil123 3h ago

Shame he's on the Kangz. He honestly looked the most professional player they have. The rest looked like they were playing pick up in the park

Let’s get Bill Simmons back on countdown too

0

u/Sushmoyscott Lakers 2h ago

Hey Ben we’re good we got bronny !

0

I was about to ask, "but isn't he a dick?" but they're probably all assholes, lol. I just like watching people play basketball. If he sucks or succeeds, I couldn't care less.

-2

u/IgnorantGenius Clippers 2h ago

Nah we aint fallin for that shit. He's playing to get a nice guaranteed multi year contract, and then he's going back on injury.

0

u/WideCoconut2230 2h ago

How is he doing in preseason play?
