He’s unbelievable, and this is such a cool play.
But this angle really shows how grabbing the net helped him with the block. Should’ve been a goaltend and unfortunately a technical foul also.
No clue why the kings left the lane wide open. I wonder if teams will be smart enough to just start boxing out anybody who throws a lob off the backboard since it counts as a shot technically.

Doesn't look like it counts if it doesn't effect the shot.

It affects the shot as it helps stabilize him for the block. His grabbing of the net isn’t as obvious as that example since he’s 7’7, but it’s usually enforced that grabbing the net (especially with a pull like that) and getting a block will result in a goaltend and technical.

The defensive player, Dennis Smith Jr., grabs the basket netting and while he is still in contact with the netting, he makes contact with the shot attempt. This act would draw a Technical foul, and the field goal attempt by the offensive player would be scored as well.”
This wording makes me convinced since wemby makes contact with the shot attempt while in contact with the netting.

He lost some points for goaltending last playoffs, nothing to actually seem like an issue but it's definitely something that plays a part when someone's as tall as he is is playing under the net
You're right to point out it playing a part in this clip, you can see him use it

He can throw it off the shot clock and still catch it.

If he pushes it, he could cause a rule change like wilt laying up freethrows.
This is really pretty gamebreaking and he has to be the only one to know he is doing it, and there really is no conventional defense.

I don’t think he can get this consistently because heavier players will slow him down when he throws it up

Why, he doesn't have to throw it straight against. He can angle it and just plan to side step.
Defensive players wouldn't know where to box out.

Defensive player could try and take a charge, and one undercut would prob stop Wemby from trying this

It’s a shot. Even if intention is a self pass, throwing it off the backboard makes it count as a shot, and boxing out is allowed.
Edit: some players might not be willing to box out if they aren’t heavy enough because the self lob plus him dunking on you while you’re boxing out might be the play of the year.

If a guy boxes him out off of that, and holds their ground, Wemby is at a pretty big risk for a nasty fall depending on the timing and all that if the opposing guy gets low. I guess on the flip side the dude doesn’t have to jump lol.
It would have to be a perfect storm of shit but also it’s a bang bang type of play.

I thought the act of throwing to the backboard is a shot but the nba play-by-play just credits it as "running dunk" with no offensive rebound or miss, so Idk

Everything he does internally I’m still like “that’s cheating” even when it’s simple stuff.

Sabo got him with the fake and Wemby jumped into his body. 2 free throws for SGA

Victor in the nba finals new four double digit leads. He’s a curated front runner that the LeBron tshirt fans need to have win the finals.
Muting this. Not arguing with the reddit hive

Barring injuries. Wemby and Spurs will dominate in late 2020s to early 2030's for sure.
But unfortunately, the lost against Brunson and Knicks will always be a stain in Wemby's Career.
(Just like Lebron's lost against 2007 Spurs. Or even Kobe/Shaq lost against Pistons)

How braindead does someone need to be to consider a finals run at 22 as a “stain”

Lebron losing to the spurs in 2007 doesn’t affect his legacy at all.
