Why don't the other 4 Spurs players just form a circle around Wemby while locking arms every possession?

u/According_Register55 4h ago

Why doesn’t Wemby just eat the opposing team

u/nickel1704 Timberwolves 4h ago

Why does Wemby, the largest player, not simply eat the other four?

NO. We had time to do that and now we're half a week out from the season starting. If we wanted more generational summer slop we shoulda went that way vs *checks notes* talking about Johnathan Kuminga all summer.

Literally my first thought. I know it’s not always practical, but he should genuinely do it more often.

6

u/Smok3dSalmon Heat 2h ago

Injury risk.

If a defender anticipates this shot, they can establish position and box him out while he’s watching the ball. That defender can then jump with as much force as they want. Wemby would get called with a displacement foul or over the back.

Welby could easily fall awkwardly or receive a headbutt to his chin

Thing is you can still exploit his weaknesses early on (like how the knicks exploit the spurs lack of size/forward and tired wemby out).

But that window is starting to close quickly. Maybe he (and the spurs) still has some roster flaws that teams can expose but you gotta try find it now. Time is on wemby’s side. Once he fixed all weaknesses, health will be the only thing standing between him and NBA titles.

It’s a little less effective when he can pick up his dribble at the half court line and still dunk it without traveling. I wouldn’t be surprised if bro just stopped dribbling, just take two steps everywhere you go and pass it if you don’t have a clear shot and just get it right back.

Just throw the pass at the ceiling, no one is else is gonna get it lol

In terms of what you think of when picturing a basketball player, it's literally him. Growing up, everyone playing NBA Live or 2k would make a 7'3" guy who could run, dunk, shoot the 3, and play amazing defense. Wemby is somehow a taller version of that. The only "knock" against him is that he isn't Giannis' current build of muscle, but if he ever gets there, I'm not sure what people will do against him on either end of the floor

Who knows what he'll achieve in terms of accolades, but as it stands, he absolutely has a chance to be known as the GOAT when it's all said and done

He's great but most talented ever? I don't think so. He's got a huge advantage from his physical attributes, which he certainly knows how to use but he should be dominating even more than he has been given that if he was the most talented ever. There's still some inconsistency at times.

He's not head and shoulders above Hakeem, Duncan or Shaq as far as comps go. He's also only going into his 4th year, so we'll see...
