Myth's Dwarves ruined explosions for me (in the best way)
One of the things I loved about Myth was how Dwarves could turn a battlefield into absolute chaos. Explosives weren't just about damage. Projectile physics, terrain, fire and friendly fire could all change the outcome of a battle.
That's something I really want to capture in my own RTS, Hunt or Pray, even though it takes place in a completely different setting.
No Dwarves this time, so I had to find a different way to bring that same feeling of explosive chaos to a world of zombies, fragmentation grenades, incendiaries and environmental chain reactions.
In this clip:
đĽ An AN-M14 incendiary grenade sets zombies on fire, and burning bodies can spread the flames.
đĽ An M67 fragmentation grenade sends shrapnel flying, dismembers zombies and leaves a crater in the terrain.
đ˘ď¸ The explosion also ignites a nearby barrel, adding another layer to the chain of reactions.
What matters most to me is how these systems interact. I want explosions to change the battlefield, affect the environment and create consequences beyond their initial blast.
For the Myth community: what made the Dwarves and their explosives so memorable for you? And what other environmental interactions would you like to see in a modern RTS?
I'm a solo dev working toward a demo for the next Steam Next Fest. If the game sounds interesting, please consider adding Hunt or Pray to your Steam wishlist đ it really helps! https://store.steampowered.com/app/5298550/Hunt_or_Pray/
