Pieces of a very large medieval black storage jug. Likely from somewhere between 1300 and 1400. Found in a medieval pit.

My finds from the medieval building in and around the medieval building from my earlier post.

I found all of these in a few hours of searching in and around the medieval building I shared earlier. Many shards can be traced back to the same jugs or plates as other shards, meaning it will possible to reconstruct and restore some of them. The finds date from the 1300s to the 1500s, and include things such as parts of cooking pots, pans, fat catchers, plates and jugs.

Is there a map of public locations along river kent near Staveley?

I will be in Staveley and Kendal next week. Would love to mudlark a bit along the river kent. Curious if there is a way to find public land and/or where it is legal for me to do?

Looking for help dating and understanding the history of this bottle I found in the mud in a uk forest. It’s 6inches tall (it’s a smaller one) but has embossed markings that people might know how to read.

Hey everyone. Thank you all so much for giving this a look as I know that the marking and numbers on the bottom are supposed to show manufacturing info or batch info but I’m so consumed how to read it and which cluster of number and letters mean what. I have no idea what this bottle could have been used for and I’d love any info. I tried to get pics of the number that was on one side of the bottom edge and then the letters with a weird symbol on the other side. Super grateful for any insight! Oh btw it’s a weirdly short and small bottle it’s only 6inches tall.

On one side I can make out a B then 78 S (then a weird symbol I don’t understand maybe a makers mark?) then the number 32.

Then the other side I’m guessing is the batch number but please correct me if I’m wrong, it’s 2118 I think.

Even any advice or teachings how to read and understand these in the future would be wonderful!

im wondering if anyone can help me identify the first five items? im assuming the two white items are lids or bases of something? i was curious about the two bottles but that isn’t as important to know. the rest of the photos are other things i found that i thought were cool! i really love the little teacup handle!

Location: Rotherhithe tips

Hello! Does anyone have any tips for Rotherhithe mudlarking?

I plan to access the foreshore using the Hanover Stairs or do you have a better recommendation?

Also once I've descended the steps onto the foreshore do I go left or right?

Sorry for the stupid questions. I've studied Google Maps and cant tell which way to go 😅😅😅

Many thanks xxx

The stream runs through an old tip. There has been lots of digging activity again, as well as rain, so there was a lot to see today. I didn't stay too long today because of the heavy rain.

The cornfield behind my house is a absolute claypipe goldmine. And it always delivers! This was all found in a single weekend. (Alongside 100+ bowl and stem fragments not pictured. I can currently fill a vase with the amount of fragments i found in total.)

Note: The second pipe on the top left was glued. I found two pieces of the same pipe close to each other.

Found yesterday whilst clearing our neglected plot, located next to an old railway station. I dare say there will be a lot more clay pipes to come

River Finds - best cleaning practices?

Thumbnail

I’ve got everything from today soaking in hot soapy water with vinegar and I’ve scrubbed a bit but there’s still that brown haze. What’s everyone’s favourite ways of brightening up their pottery finds? The first bottle isn’t from today, just the favourite river find that I can’t get to a satisfactory level of clean.

What is/what causes this metallic wood?

Post image

I found these pieces of what feels/sounds like metal but looks a little like wood grain (some more than others). I know wood can get mineralized, but I don’t know enough to know if that’s what is happening here (google searches haven’t helped).

eta: I will be reporting it to the local FLO.
