You have to have a specific amount of karma to participate on some subs

how much karma do I need for r/deathbattlematchups? Also, what’s karma?

Read the links in the auto mod and also check alll the other posts on karma in this sub. It grows from upvotes and lowers by downvotes. You cannot determine how much karma you need by looking at a sub. You just have to get involved and get that karma.

Ok, so I can post on certain sub-reddits but can’t on others because of my karma? So how much karma do I need for the official r/DeathBattleMatchups?

Subreddits will rarely disclose that.
But after a week or two of participating in the comments- making meaningful, quality comments- you should have enough.
The comment section in Reddit is more important and meaningful than other social media platforms.

Hi /u/FreeTemperature4484, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.
Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!
