2026 Animal Resource Guide for Mobile, AL

Post image
25 Upvotes

Please spay and neuter your pets, strays, and community cats whenever possible! Mobile has an animal overpopulation problem, making it difficult to rehome animals. The shelters are already full of loving animals that need homes, so please do your part to help prevent more unwanted litters.

Times are tough, and cost can make it harder to get animals the care they need. This resource list includes organizations that may help with spay/neuter services, rehoming, and pet food assistance. Please check each page for current information, requirements, and availability.

KITTEN SEASON TIPS:

Spring and summer are kitten season in our area, which usually means more kittens being born while shelters and rescues are already near capacity.

If you find young kittens, do not assume they have been abandoned. In many cases, the mother cat is nearby and may be away looking for food. If the kittens are clean, warm, quiet, and not in immediate danger, the best first step is usually to watch from a distance and give the mother time to return.

Kittens may need help if they are sick, injured, cold, covered in fleas, in danger, or crying continuously. If possible, contact a local shelter, rescue, or experienced foster for guidance before moving them.

If you're able to safely catch and foster the mother cat with her kittens, that’s often the best-case scenario. Keeping the family together gives the kittens their best chance while also making it possible to spay the mom once the kittens can eat on their own.

Cats are pregnant for about nine weeks, and an unspayed female can have up to five litters per year, with around four to six kittens per litter. That is why one unspayed cat can quickly multiply into many more kitties needing homes.

Here is more info on what to do if you find kittens outdoors!

RESCUES/SHELTERS TO REHOME/HELP WITH FOSTER:

Rescues and shelters are often full and may not be able to take an animal immediately. Be prepared to foster at home during the process.

NOTE: When rehoming an animal, check vet references to ensure you are placing the animal into a safe and loving environment. Some people will take free animals for unsafe or exploitative reasons.

If you are interested in fostering an animal, you can also reach out to these organizations.

LOWER-COST SPAY/NEUTER AND VACCINATIONS:

Spayed and neutered pets can have lower risks of certain cancers, infections, and health complications, helping them live longer, healthier lives. Spay/neuter also saves the lives of animals you’ll never meet, because fewer accidental litters means fewer animals entering shelters and more resources for the ones already here.

The Mobile SPCA also offers $10 off spay/neuter coupons that may be used at select veterinary clinics, including Semmes Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Mobile, Highlands Veterinary Hospital, Oasis Veterinary Hospital, and Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital. Prices are set by each vet and may vary, so call the clinic directly for current pricing, fees, and appointment availability.

NOTE: Spay/neuter appointments may require a bit of a wait, especially for spays. Be prepared to schedule a month or more in advance. Pregnant cats can still be spayed, and spay-abort is a common part of rescue work. As heartbreaking as it sounds, every new litter stretches already limited shelter and rescue resources. Preventing one litter can mean more food, foster space, medical care, and adoption opportunities for the animals already waiting for help!

If we get a "the unnamed employee has been properly disciplined" out of this and nothing more, then we know what kind of administration we have.

For losing that much taxpayer money, they should televise the one responsible being fired.

Advice Mobile Goths & Alt Scene? 🖤

What’s up, Mobile? 🖤 Any goths or alt people around here? I’m trying to meet more people in the scene, find some new music, and maybe link up for shows or just hang out sometime. Always had a thing for goth culture, and I’d love to get to know more people who are into it, especially goth women and the older alt crowd. 🤘
If you’re around the area, drop a favorite band or shoot me a DM! Always down to meet some cool people and see what’s out there. 🖤

Looking for Someone Local Who Makes Custom Feather Flags – Mobile/West Mobile

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a local business or someone in the Mobile area, preferably West Mobile, who can make custom feather flags (the tall advertising flags you see outside businesses).

I’m wanting some made for my business with my own logo/design. I’d prefer to support someone local rather than ordering online.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know someone who does this?

Looking for a good place to play pickup basketball. I used to live in Mobile from 2010-2014 then again 2017-2021 so I'm familiar with the area and used to play at the YMCA downtown which had great runs but COVID basically killed that and the west Mobile location so kind of at square one with where to play.

In Tampa Bay, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a 400 acre island to store dredged sediment; decades later, it has become a nesting refuge for thousands of migratory birds, with tens of thousands visiting throughout the year.

Advice Studio spaces in Mobile?

So I’m lookin for a studio to rent out in the Mobile area to expand my art production. Everything I’ve seen is for photo shoots or nail salons, not really meant for painting for crafting of any kind. I guess I’m looking for is a glorified garage with cement floors, lots of natural light and good ventilation. I’m not looking for something fancy, just a work space that they wouldn’t mind getting a bit messy.

Advice I wish to know what other options I have in regards to the upcoming election.

My issue is that recently I began reading G.K. Chesterton, my first books of his was Napoleom of Notting Hill and Orthodoxy, these two tomes stirred in me new found beliefs and commitments to which I think are good for me to hold, but present a certain issue with the upcoming election for the governorship. I am a young man of 19, I was cynical about democracy in my teen years, as I grew to view it as a means to quick power by swindlers who use bribery to gain cheap power and destabilize the state. In reading Orthodoxy, I became convinced that cynicism is not reason to abandon something, but a reason to fight for it, and that the most miraculous things are the strange universality that all people share, among them is governance. The second conviction I came to is the profound need for local patriotism, me being born in Alabama was an act of providence, all good things in my life came as a result of the accident of my birth being so fortunate, and all bad things that came from those circumstances made me into the man I am today. I owed my home a gratitude that necessitated whether she was great or not, she would never be unless people like me first loved her, things are never made great unless if the people who love them first consider them as such. Even if the whole idea of Alabama was reduced to the smallest paver on a street in Fairhope or if the colors of the state only existed as a red autumn leaf floating against a white cloud, I must love it in gratitude all the moreso.

These two poetic fancies led me to a conclusion that some might consider intolerable, with my assessment of the two candidates, I must either vote against my most fundamental principles and compromise my soul, or choose a third option and compromise the opinions of others. In my assessment, Tuberville, with his close ties to the MAGA movement, and in being for the development that has marred and disfigured my home county of Baldwin, and in refusing to articulate any real defense of traditions or conservative principles is completely unworthy of my vote, he wishes for Alabama to resemble the cosmopolitan indistinction and cultural libertarianism that has come to define Florida, Doug Jones on the other hand, I find equally objectionable, his desire for Alabama to become more socially cosmopolitan and liberal, in spite of the apparent social conservatism that most of his constituents have, and in having many social policies I find objectionable, to me, seems to wish for Alabama to be more like Minnesota. My issue with these two men is one in the same, there is no lesser evil, because the issue at heart is identical, if they love Alabama at all, they only seem to love their vision of what it can become, what particulars about it they see in it that they may disregard the rest, they do not see Alabama as anything more than just another state of the union, and this is the core axiom of the issue, I do not wish for Alabama to become Minnesota or Florida, I wish for Alabama to be Alabama, to change and grow as an organic thing, to be itself, flaws included, and beloved so that those blemishes may be rectified in due time. I do not want to see my home dragged kicking and screaming into a future that will disfigure her. And so what option do I have, I am almost settled on putting a write-in candidate and dying on my principles, but I am wondering if there is any way to justify a third option.

Hi! Lived in the area 3 years and haven’t searched much, but curious anyone’s experience with boob jobs and plastic surgeons down here. When I look around I mostly see Birmingham and NOLA recommendations but have read a bit of good reviews out of some Fairhope practices as well. Any and all advise is welcome!! As well as pricing options and if your MD took care credit for payment? Thanks!!

Life psychiatry

Does anyone know the reason why they shut down permanently? After searching for years to find a physiatrist that could genuinely help me, I found Dr Diaz in 2023 and he was the only person that actually helped my issues. So this news is genuinely devastating for me.

Call to prayer loud speakers Mobile, AL

Thumbnail

Do you see in our lifetime call to prayer loudspeakers making it to Mobile? Currently Minneapolis, Minnesota; New York City, New York; Paterson, New Jersey; Dearborn, Michigan; Hamtramck, Michigan; and Occoquan, Virginia all have this now. I have experienced this in Indonesia. It's awful. I had no idea it goes off at 5:30 a.m., how loud it is, and how it can go for over 15 minutes. My wife's house would literally shake when it goes off. Her Mom suffers from hearing loss because of it. I would love if there is a way to ask the upcoming governors about this. I would like to ask Doug Jones and Tommy Tuberville would they keep the speakers out of Alabama. I made a few friends at USA that are Muslim. Great people. I like they are free to have their own religion here. The loudspeakers after experiencing it though, they are really rough. It affects everyone that lives nearby.

(Absolutely crazy request, I know BUT..) Do you and a friend have a full Darth Vader + Storm Trooper costume? If so.. could I please hire you to show up to our wedding in downtown mobile for 10 minutes for some awesome pictures? lol

Okay like the title states… I am looking for 2 people to show up in FULL costume as Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper to our wedding in November as a surprise to my fiance. Willing to hire you for pay of course.

He’s a massive Star Wars fan and is a collector since he was super young and I have this (I think) really awesome idea of a way to surprise him that day.

If anyone knows of anyone who’d be willing to do this.. please reach out!
