Fruit Loops, Nerds, and now this?? Was there a solar flare that kicked up all the neurodivergents??

u/original_username89 5h ago
A few scrolls down someone removed all the sesame seeds from their bun. Today is apparently the day.

Ok so someone sorted all the froot loops, someone else sorted all the candy nerds. Now we are picking seeds off a strawberry? What is going on today!?

I dunno, I was bottling 44 bottles of beer.
Suppose I could have picked out individual yeast cells or something. Now I feel like I did nothing.

I ate them separately which amounted to a very average experience altogether, much like eating a regular strawberry

Have you been tested for super OCD autism?
No reason
505
20
u/_FreddieLovesDelilah 6h ago
Is that a thing because I thought I had OCD but I was diagnosed with autism and I just think I might have both
12
u/Pandamaud 4h ago
You can have both, however, OCD and autism go hand in hand very often as they can be very similar. My old friend had autism and I have OCD, and we both had a lot of similarities with behavior and tics. The key difference for us was tho, that with OCD there's thoughts of anxiety behind the tics ("if I dont do X tics, then something aweful will happen"), while for her, she just had tics that would annoy the shit out of her if she didnt do them
5
u/alewiina 3h ago
Yep OCD, autism, and ADHD all often go hand in hand. I have AuDHD but my partner was blessed/cursed (blursed?) with all 3
14
u/Bonijan 6h ago
Oh you absolutely can have both (source: I have both lol). If the obsessive thinking has been too overwhelming for you (in intensity and/or frequency) and causing significant suffering, I'd really recommend trying to have it diagnosed and treated, mine got way more manageable after meds. Best of luck!

I was at a plant physiology conference and ran into a strawberry breeder. I said to him, "I can't stand the texture of the seeds. Have you ever bred a seedless strawberry?". He looked at me quietly and said no one had ever asked him that before.
My point is I understand and I see you.

u/dvowel 5h ago
How are strawberry seeds on their own?
20
u/j_hawker27 5h ago
Mostly okay. They sometimes suffer from separation anxiety, but once you eat them you can stop thinking about it.

Fun fact, the strawberry is not actually a berry. It is an accessory fruit. The berry is actually a thin layer around each seed.
36
u/Sweeper1985 6h ago
This is a level of pedantry I can appreciate.
Obligatory mention that raspberries aren't berries either, but watermelons are.

Another fun fact, those little things on strawberries aren't seeds, they're called achenes. The seeds are even smaller and inside of them.

3
u/Turdship_ButtleFlaps 5h ago
Huh, I wonder if that helps explain why some people complained of hollow strawberries. Not enough resources during the grow to fill out the accessory fruit?
Very cool fact, I'll have to pay more attention next time I pick up some strawberries!

The red item on the left is no longer fruit
11
u/Phyddlestyx 2h ago
The red part never was, technically. The "seeds" are actually the fruits, with the true seeds being inside those.
→ More replies (1)9
u/AceOfPlagues 6h ago
It is still an accesory fruit which, for example, includes all non-core parts of apples and pears as well. So while not a true fruit it can hardly be called a flower any more.
5
u/Ur-Quan_Lord_13 5h ago
Man, I just wanted to look up how the part of the flower that turns into the fruit in an apple (hypanthium) differs from a strawberry (receptacle) and people are truly allergic to labeling pictures of parts of flowers!

Man, an old client of mine saw one of the facts on a Snapple top about seeds on a strawberry. So he wanted to try for himself.
There were not as many seeds on the strawberry as the Snapple cap said.
He loved to talk about how pissed off he was after doing that.
8
u/expespuella 5h ago
That triggered a random memory. My cousin is the most mellow dude who will try to alleviate someone's anxiety with facts and tidbits to show they have less to worry about than their brain is telling them.
Years ago in the Pacific Northwest his fiancee was driving us somewhere and it was storming really heavily. She was kinda freaking out and kept saying a tornado was gonna hit. He said, "We don't get tornados here, and where they do, the sky turns kinda green because of the ice in the clouds yada yada yada..."
She said, really angrily, "WHATEVER, SNAPPLE CAP."

Interestingly, those “seeds” are the true fruit of the strawberry plant; the red bit is known as an “accessory fruit” as it doesn’t develop directly from the reproductive parts of the flower the way the real fruits do.

u/neveronmylife 5h ago
It took me about an hour, I was watching a show and needed something to do with my hands. I recommend using a firm, barely ripe strawberry so you don’t puncture the flesh too much

Serious questions. How long did it take you? Was there anything you learned/observed/examined while doing it about the seeds or skin? Would you recommend this as an activity for someone to do at least once in their life, or something as a part of their routine, or something to help regular emotion?

I had a boss that brought (to the hospital) one of his employees a box of chocolate covered strawberries. A get well soon present.
He was in the hospital due to diverticulitis surgery. 😅

I really enjoy strawberries but I never eat it because I hate the seeds. However, I've never sat down and removed them, I just shave them with the potato peeling tool. How long did it take? On a totally different subject, I do peel my grapes since I hate the texture of the skin, and I do it with a knife
