how hard would it be for them to color code with a dash of waterproof paint?
38
u/JoeS2727 7h ago
Preferably use a text with more contrast on the label
5
u/SlightlyConfuscated 7h ago
Contrast costs money. They're going for the cheapest possible thing. Hence the monocolor

A color coded 3d printed mount would be a better choice, but how are you going to know what the colors are if you can't read?

I used to be a hotel cleaner and I hated the one hotel I worked at that had big bottles like this for guests. I'd always open them and inspect them/smell them and sometimes they smelled like piss and I'd throw them all out. I kept bringing it up to my boss like maybe we should just go back to single use bottles because people keep pissing in the shampoo and they insisted that it's too much of a cost saver to have bulk bottles like this. I was like ok... guess I'll just keep throwing out litres of shampoo every day because they're full of piss....

u/ion125 6h ago
Today I suddenly decided to stop using the hotel shampoo….

u/eugeneugene 5h ago
People did a lot of gross stuff. I frequently got in trouble for not turning over rooms fast enough but at least once per shift there would be a room with like puke and shit and blood all over it and I was still expected to be in and out of there in 20 minutes haha. The one time someone left so many needles throughout the room we ended up having to remove all the furniture because they shoved needles in between cushions and embedded them in the mattresses. They like booby trapped the entire room with needles. We had to call in a special company to clear the entire room out it was rank

For the first time in 30 years, I feel proud of myself for never creating harm in a hotel room. Last time for me was at 10 years old rubbing the bar of soap on every glass surface. I felt bad about it an hour later, and I still feel bad about it now.

I had no idea this was a thing.. now I understand why the bulk products my hotel uses have sealed caps! They are supposed to be replaced when they reach 1/4 full. But… mostly the guests call up, “pissed” that they checked in and find them empty… lol
•
u/BoxFullOfSuggestions 54m ago
This is why the tiny, sealed bottles that are replaced each time should be standard hotel protocol. Sheets and towels can be sanitized in the wash between guests. Nobody is sanitizing the shared toiletries.
3
u/i_likesocks 5h ago

u/alral1988 3h ago
Absolutely no way in hell were you throwing away liters of shampoo daily. I believe that it happens every now and then, but for liters a day you’d have to be coming across multiple piss-filled bottles each day. Depending on the hotel, the average cleaner will do 10-20 rooms a day. So you’re talking somewhere between 10-20% of the room you clean would have pee in the shampoo. Not buying that for a second and don’t know why you’re fear mongering shampoo
3
u/Vast_Feeling1089 2h ago
Yeah I worked in hotels. I’m not using “communal” shampoo/conditioner/bodywash.

u/BreakfastDue1256 5h ago
I used to be a hotel housekeeper and the large bottles we had couldn't be opened. If you opened it to tamper with it, you'd break the nozzle. It would be immediately obvious if they were tampered with.
We went with the big ones because people have this idea that travel sized ones are unlimited. Obviously, take the ones that are in your room, and maybe ask for another set too. But most people don't stop there. People were stealing them by the dozens, even taking them off housekeeper carts, and we were spending well into the 6 figures a year on shampoo alone. When we switched to larger ones, the problem stopped.
Also the bottles were collected when empty and sent back to the manufacturer who would recycle them, sans nozzle.

Yes, OP could memorize the layout of his hotel, so he can fumble around like Mr. Magoo.
Or, the bottles could be easier to distinguish. My shampoo and conditioner have the same bottle design, but the pumps are different colors.

There isn’t anything wrong with this in a private bathroom.
A hotel is a space used by very many different types of people. Including people who don’t speak English, can’t read, can’t see well, are drunk, or have other impairments.
It would be an easy thing to make their lives slightly less difficult by having a clear label both linguistically as well as pictographically.
Hell, ideally you’d add braille as well.

This annoys me even in my own home… my wife comes home with Tresemme pump bottle shampoo and conditioner and you have to pick them up and closely read the label for the small print that says “shampoo” or “conditioner” among all the other words like “repairs damaged hair” “moisturizing” etc etc. plus the logo and all the other crap.
Just put “POO” and “COND” in big print on the top of the bottle since I’m looking down at it in the steam with all my nudities showing and I just wanna wash my damn hair.

Here's my complaint with these: I am allergic to lavender. I am not anaphylaxis allergic (yet) but it will be very unpleasant for me. This is an allergy I developed in adulthood (about 8 years ago) so it's still not instinctive for me to check ingredients. More so, it's not instinctive for me to wrestle a bottle off the wall, hold it at the correct distance from my eyes in proper lighting to be able to see the word "lavender" when all I want from a hotel bathroom is to be clean before I can be horizontal.
I had to start bringing my own toiletries in every trip after my second accidental lavendering.
•
u/edithannlives 39m ago
Other brands do this too. The type of product should be written larger. And faded white???

For me however they are in the order I’d use them. First shampoo, then conditioner, then body clean.
