I'm slightly vexed I'll be 50% deaf in 5 minutes because my hearing aid didn't quite make contact with my charger last night.
Of course hearing aids require proprietary chargers too, so everyone just has to speak up today.

that just means you only have to learn sign language on one hand instead of both

Ayyy, another hearing aid wearer! May I ask what brand you use? I have relatively mild hearing loss due to some annoying genetics on the maternal side of my family, so I use Widex - not sure if more extreme hearing loss/your specific kind warrants different brands. My case acts as the charger, and it lights up when it's making proper connection with the aids.

I use Philips 9050's. Not wild about the fit, but the capabilities and battery life are fantastic.
My case is a charger as well, and it has a battery in it that will charge them 5x if I'm travelling. My aids light up when charging, but in this case was too sleepy to notice one didn't quite plug in all the way.

Yeah, it only takes once or twice before you make sure to see the blinking lights in the charger before you walk away from you hearing aids.

woke up to a 4% phone once because the cable was a millimeter off. can't imagine that happening to my actual ears.

So.. are you saying these things have NO CROSS-FEED VALVE you can just switch open to EQUALIZE BETWEEN THEM!

I’m assuming you have Oticons, since the app looks the same as mine. I also have issues with them not making contact with the charger sometimes, but I find that pushing them in firmer/wiggling them around a bit until the LED lights up usually works.

They're actually Philips. I understand brands make models for other brands, so there may be some app sharing going on.

WHAT IS THE FILTER FOR?

This is why we need usbc or some tiny plug in type for earbuds/hearing aids that arent just reasting it ontop of a contact
I have the same problem with my skull candy push play actives

Why hearing aids don't use inductive charging by now is beyond me. My ring and watch can do it, why not hearing aids? I should be able to put them on a pad and charge them.

u/Egglegg14 10h ago
For prescription hearing aids priced atleast at $1000 you should be able to charge them without hassle like that

wait, those dont have wireless charging? seems the perfect device to have it, just put it on a small box and will charge

Theres probably not enough space in them. The power consumption of a smart ring and hearing aids is vastly different.
If you were to put wireless charging in the hearing aids, they would get bigger to accomodate the extra space needed.

This is why I opted to get battery operated hearing aid batteries the last time I had to get new ones. I can’t risk this ever happening to me :( sorry you need to deal with this!!

This is why I'm grateful my charger is a travel charger. Had this happen earlier this week and just popped the one at 20% into the charger while I commuted to work. By the time I got to work, it was up to 80%, so I was set for the day. Highly recommend a travel charger if there is one for your HA's!

Filter?

u/Fritzo2162 6h ago
Hearing aids have a wax filter to prevent the speaker from clogging up. It needs to be replaced every so often or it will muffle up the output.

As someone who was born 50% deaf with this same exact ear not working I can confirm that you’ll hear things but poorly

I'd imagine deafness is measured by your most sensitive ear, not the average. if someone is normally deaf in one ear he's not really deaf is he?
5
u/Fritzo2162 14h ago
Well I'm 40% in my left ear and 60% in my right, so averaging the two makes it 50%, and if my hearing aids bring it back to 100% and I lose half of it, it should be 50%.

Well you better learn to double check such a vital thing?
I always check that my phone actually charge
3
u/Fritzo2162 12h ago
It's not like they have a screen on them. It only alerts me if they're under 10% charged.

u/gfunk84 12h ago
This app doesn’t tell you if they’re actively charging?
1
u/Fritzo2162 11h ago
No. You only get battery status after you take them out of the case, let them boot, they sync up to your phone, and then you open the app.
