Image(s) Some love for Kalmah - They will return
Just received this album last week and so glad I have it on vinyl now!
The riffs and their focus on melodies is so strong on this one.

Greetings everyone! Now that we are back, we decided to also make a more elaborated presentation of the voting results for the melodeath aoty 2025.
The results were evaluated via a ranked choice system, i.e. the best kind of vote :3 ....but we have also evaluated how the ranking would've looked like if we did vote differently: (A) the system we used the past years with everyone voting for 3 albums, (B) a weighed system similar to the ESC using all your 10 choices, and (C) a simple strawpoll where everyone would just vote for 1 album.
The voting was held across different platforms: reddit, discord and lemmy, but the results presented here on the first picture are the results from the reddit votes only. You can scroll through the pictures to find also information how the other platform users voted though.
Cheers

Mors Principium Est might be a weird choice, but this is what I came up with for now. They are an easy listen, so like a guilty pleasure. Adam Sandler of music, if that makes sense.
I should relisten to Be'lakor. But to give a proper rating, at home is way better than in the car.
Same goes for Insomnium, they are unlistenable to me in the car.
I just can't add early In Flames to the list. I am listening to them right now and while 1st album is really great, 2nd to 5th don't really do it for me generally.
And Ensiferum, after listening them for 14 years here and there, I now finally realized I really don't like them. They are so no good for such well renowned band.
In the end this should be a top 10 list. Priority to me is a great frontman like in the first four groups.
Death, Megadeth and Cradle of Filth. Then going into US power metal, I should add Iced Earth, then Europe power metal, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian and Stratovarius. Then Epica and Therion. There are a lot of great bands out there.
I don't know if Iron Maiden and Metallica can really be on the list. That is so 2006 for me, they are relics of the past. Same for Nightwish. I am sure it is the same for many metal fans. But for sure they deserve revisiting at least once in 5 years. Not really much of a regular listen though.

He's my favorite melodic death metal artist of all time. He has a solo album named Moontower and its my favorite album of all time. He also has an album that tells a whole amazing story, with the same music style as Moontower. Edge of Sanity: Crimson II is it. Masterpieces. Must listens. Any of yall ever listen to these or like these?

I like the intro. I hear negatives, but I really like the synth thing. It goes well. It gives an intro into awesome. I love these guys.

Feels pretty special to get 3 awesome releases in 1 day
Mother of Graves - The Light That Keeps Us
Iapetus - The Mother Void
Insomnium - Netherworlds
3 Albums I've been hanging to hear for a while and have ordered on vinyl, but will take a while to get to Australia.
Caught the Mother of Graves listening party earlier in the week, awesome album.
Insomnium is really solid and Iapetus may be my AOTY at this stage.

Netherworlds is Insomnium's 10th studio album. After some experimentation with Argent Moon and Anno 1696, the Finns are back to the same old familiar sound.
The Cold Song- 3/5. A nice take to an already popular classical song. It serves as a mere intro.
Shadowlife- 3.5/5.
Remembrance- 5/5. Arguably the most catchiest song Insomnium has ever made. If you think Gleam In The Black and Ephemeral were catchy well then time to change your opinion! Heavy Kill switch Engage vibes in this song so this one is for the metal core fans for sure!!
Gleam in Black-4/5
The Hour Grows Late- 4.5/5 (I think I need more time with this since the rating might grow up!). Great song writing and tempo changes. Amorphis dudes did perfectly fit in this song.
Arch of The Sky- 4.5/5
Pathways of the Night- 4/5 Fast driven catchy song. Great song writing again! (Rating might go up)
Ethereal Sleep- 4/5. Need more time with this one overall a great song!
The Banished- 4.5/5. Insomnium meets some Thrash metal riffs lol. Editing: Fantastic song. Tipping it to 5/5. Wowwwwww
Journey's End- 4.5/5 No way did I expect Insomnium to write such a song which has some Celine Dione elements but then again, great ending to a highly enjoyable album! Edit: THIS SONG NEEDS MORE TIME! MIGHT TIP THIS TO 5/5!!!
Ville has written 5 songs which includes Remembrance. Markus has also done some fantastic song writing as well. Tomy's song was a banger as well. Great lyrics. This album has a high re-playablity.
Overall:9/10 (initial ratings which might end up going higher for sure)
