Aidez-moi / ۳ۧŰčŰŻÙˆÙ†ÙŠ / Help Needed 22, introvert, second year of a TESOL Master's in Morocco, exhausted and lost. How do I know if a PhD is right for me?

I'm 22 and in the second year of a Master's in Applied Linguistics/TESOL in Morocco. I'm very introverted, and I need advice because I feel completely lost.

Where I am now:

I chose English because I genuinely love it, and the only place I could study it was the higher school of education and training. I didn't want to go straight into teaching because the teaching situation in Morocco is awful. Now I've lost my energy and don't want to do anything. I cry almost every day, sometimes in class or in public, and I try hard to hold the tears back. My personality is weak. I barely participate in class anymore. In the first semester I did, rarely, but now (3rd semester) I just don't want to.

The people around me:

Some classmates have hurt me, and others have mocked or accused me of things in public or talk behind my back. Then they come talk to me normally and I talk back as if nothing happened, and I wonder if I'm doing something bad to myself by doing that. My relationship with some of my classmates isn't good, and the environment doesn't make me feel good (some people are really toxic in a way that I didn't expect; they look old enough to have functioning brains but they're so toxic). I'm also very selective: I observe people, and if I notice bad behavior I avoid them. I wonder if I'm just avoidant. I have no one to talk to about this. I've tried, but the people around me don't get it.

Stress:

I'm not lazy, but stress has really damaged me mentally and physically. I've lost a lot of weight in very short periods. I don't want to put myself through that anymore, especially when many professors told us they were assigned their modules very late and nobody seems to care. They send us assignments the night before. The whole system feels like it doesn't care, from the faculty window staff to the banks saying "the system is down." In Morocco you need a whole day or more for paperwork that should take minutes.

The meaning question:

Sometimes I think: I was born, I have to grind to get a good career, earn a lot, live well, and then die. That doesn't excite me. There are times I've wished I was never born (even now). I'm not saying this to be dramatic, it's just how heavy it feels.

My options:

  1. Quit the Master's. But I've already spent a year of a two-year program.

  2. Finish it, then teach in a Moroccan higher institution (if the Master's allows that) or elsewhere for a few years to build my CV, then apply to teach in Japan. I like Japan from videos: I've heard pay is low, but life is peaceful, people mind their own business, and many seem introverted and shy like me. I know every country has a dark side, and I'm scared to move, but I'd adapt (it's not like I'll have another option).

  3. Do a PhD. I don't think my level is good enough.

  4. Earn enough online, maybe with a skill that doesn't need a degree, and live peacefully in a better country. I don't need perfection, just mostly stress-free, comfortable in my body and mind, with Wi-Fi, exercise, and things I enjoy.

I've also heard many people argue that introverts aren't suited to teaching because it requires so much socializing, and their arguments made sense to me. Now I'm questioning the whole path.

My questions:

  1. How did you know whether a PhD was right or wrong for you?

  2. Is a PhD realistic for someone introverted who is very sensitive to stress?

  3. Is teaching an option for introverts, or am I fooling myself?

  4. Is a Master's plus a few years of teaching enough to get a teaching job in Japan or elsewhere?

  5. Is it worth finishing the Master's after one year, or should I leave?

Honest advice is welcome. Thank you for reading this far.

Aidez-moi / ۳ۧŰčŰŻÙˆÙ†ÙŠ / Help Needed PhD student in food science in Morocco, looking for help and contacts to access lab resources

Hi everyone,

I’m a third-year PhD student in nutrition and food science in Morocco, working on the formulation and stability testing of a functional food product.

My lab is missing resources I need to move forward:

  • Reagents for total phenolic content (Folin-Ciocalteu, sodium carbonate, gallic acid)
  • Antioxidant assay reagents (DPPH, FRAP)
  • Reference microbial strains for antimicrobial testing

I’m looking for anyone who can help with information or contacts, for example:

  • Labs in Morocco or North Africa that could lend small quantities of reagents or run analyses for me
  • Collection centers, hospitals or researchers who can supply reference strains
  • Networks, programs or grants that support PhD students with limited resources
  • Any advice from people who have worked in similar conditions

If you know someone or something that could help, please comment or send me a message. Thank you so much!

Ask r/Maroc Register as a nurse in the UK as a Moroccan nurse ?

Hello, my sister is a nurse in Morocco and is currently doing her master’s in the UK. She currently works as a healthcare assistant and is trying to get registered with the NMC to become a nurse here. However, the process is very complicated, as we don’t have a nursing council or professional regulatory body in Morocco to confirm that she is, in fact, a nurse.
Any help?

Immigrants in Morocco , so called“Expats” Mon expĂ©rience au Maroc a Ă©tĂ© profondĂ©ment dĂ©cevante.

Critiquer

Ask r/Maroc Best platforms or sites to watch Moroccan cinema?

I’ve recently been wanting to explore Moroccan cinema, but I’m struggling to find a good streaming platform or website.

Aside from the mainstream hits like Casanegra or Zero, it seems almost impossible to find classic old films, indie/underground releases, or recent movies online.

Where do you guys watch Moroccan movies? Any recommendations for streaming sites, archives, or apps? Thanks!

I'm 18 but look much younger, and I get super anxious every time I go outside. I'm constantly paranoid about getting my phone stolen, getting jumped, or dealing with groups of guys looking at me funny.

I hate this feeling and just want to walk around normally like everyone else. Does anyone else in Morocco deal with this, and how do you cope with it?

We’re figuring out where to go when we visit Morocco together, and I keep going back and forth between Marrakech and Fes. It’d be my first time there, and I’m mostly looking forward to wandering around and trying the food.

Ask r/Maroc Anyone had a similar experience with CIH consumer loans?

Anyone had a similar experience with CIH consumer loans?

I applied for a consumer loan with CIH on 21 July 2026 at the Malabata branch in Tangier.

The file went through the process and was stuck for some time with the conformity department. I was later told that they were checking the original documents against the copies sent by the branch.

I signed the loan contract on 7 August 2026, and I was told the money should be credited within around a week.

However, as of 25 September 2026, I still haven't received anything.

I recently went to the CIH regional office in Tangier to complain. They told me they understood the issue and would follow up with the department in Casablanca responsible for the file.

So it's been more than two months since I submitted the application and almost seven weeks since I signed the contract, with no clear explanation about where the file is now.

Has anyone experienced something similar with CIH? Or does anyone here understand the process after signing the contract and what can still happen at the Casablanca/back-office stage before the loan is released?

I'd really appreciate it if someone with actual experience could explain what might be happening.

Discussion Moroccan Developers Are Still Excluded From Google Play Merchant Registration — How Long Do We Keep Waiting?

A few weeks ago, a Moroccan developer posted here about spending more than six months building his app, only to reach the monetization stage and discover the same wall that many Moroccan developers have already faced:

Morocco is still excluded from Google Play Merchant Registration.

His story got attention here because this is not some minor technical inconvenience.

Behind an app there can be months of coding, designing, testing, fixing bugs, learning, and investing your own time and money. You can do all of that from Morocco, successfully release your app, build a user base — and then discover that the standard Google Play merchant infrastructure you need to turn that work into a sustainable business is simply not available to you.

And this has been going on for years.

Moroccan developers have asked Google. The issue has been raised repeatedly on Reddit and Google’s own support community. An open letter was written years ago. Developers keep running into the same wall.

And yet we are still here.

What makes this even harder to accept is that Google Play Merchant Registration is already supported in neighboring countries such as Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania, while Morocco remains excluded.

So the question is: how long do we keep discussing the same problem and waiting for something to change?

We decided it is time to actually move.

We have started a petition with one clear request:

Enable Google Play Merchant Registration for Morocco.

https://www.change.org/GooglePlayMorocco

And the petition is only the first step.

The goal now is to gather signatures and real stories from Moroccan developers affected by this problem.

Then we will escalate the petition and those cases to Google directly.

After that, we want to bring the issue to the attention of the relevant decision-makers and institutions in Morocco as well.

And if there is a specific regulatory, banking, tax, payments or operational obstacle preventing Morocco from being supported, then Moroccan developers deserve a clear answer:

What exactly is preventing it?

And what needs to happen for Morocco to finally become eligible?

We are not asking for special treatment.

We are asking for Moroccan developers to have a normal and official way to monetize the apps they build from Morocco.

No relocating abroad. No complicated foreign arrangements. No discovering the problem after months of work.

If you are a Moroccan developer who has faced this issue, please sign the petition and share your experience in the comments.

And even if you are not a developer, you can still support Moroccan developers by signing and sharing it.

We have talked about this for years.

Now let's gather the signatures, the developers and the evidence in one place — and take the issue to the people who can actually change it.

Ask r/Maroc Affordable way to send a small package from Morocco to Europe

Hi everyone,

I’ll be visiting Morocco and I’m looking for an affordable way to send a small package, up to 1 kg, from Morocco to Europe, preferably Ireland or Poland.

It would just be some Moroccan soap, spices and a few typical Moroccan souvenirs/gifts. Nothing valuable or fragile.

Has anyone here actually sent a small package from Morocco to Ireland or Poland? What options are available, and roughly how much did you pay?

I’m mainly interested in regular post or other affordable options rather than DHL/UPS express services.

Thanks!

Aidez-moi / ۳ۧŰčŰŻÙˆÙ†ÙŠ / Help Needed 2026 has been a very difficult year for me.

At the beginning of the year, I finished my work with a startup where I was working remotely as a Product Designer. I had some savings, so I thought I had enough time to find another job.

But now, almost 9 months later, I still haven’t found a job in my field. My savings are gone, and I’m now struggling financially.

This situation has also affected me personally. I lost weight, my hair started falling out, and I’ve been under a lot of stress.

I know the job market for Product Designers is very difficult right now, and AI is also changing the industry. But I really love this field. I built dreams around it, and I still want to make those dreams real.

Right now, I feel like I’m at rock bottom.

I’m 24 years old. I only have a high school diploma (Bac), but I have real experience working with a startup as a Product Designer. I learned the field by myself, worked on real products, and had a lot of responsibility during my experience.

The problem now is that I don’t even know what kind of job would be good for me at this point. I need money, so I’m starting to think about any job that can help me, not only Product Design.

I recently found a job in an industrial area. But honestly, I didn’t feel comfortable with the environment there. It feels very different from the environment I’m used to. Most people there are just trying to work, earn money, and survive, and I understand that. But I also feel that I want something different and want to build a career that I actually care about.

At the same time, I know I can’t stay without income forever.

So now I’m really confused. Should I continue looking for a job in my field, or should I take any temporary job to get back on my feet?

I don’t want to give up on Product Design, but I also don’t know what the right step is anymore.
