AskMangalore Why Do Many Muslim Girls in Mangalore Prefer a Husband Who Works in the Gulf ?

I started thinking about this because one of my friend is looking for a girl to get married, and he often shares his experiences with me. He says that many girls in Mangalore prefer a man who works in the Gulf or another foreign country.

I honestly don't understand why. Many people working in Gulf countries struggle a lot. Some earn relatively low salaries, and even those who earn well have to deal with the high cost of living. They may not always be able to bring their wives and families to live with them, and they might not enjoy the same quality of life abroad that they could have in India with a good salary and a stable job.

What surprises me even more is that some girls seem to prefer a man working abroad over someone in India who has a good job, earns well, and has a stable career.

Why is this preference so common? Is it a trend, a long-standing cultural practice, or something related to financial security and social status? I'd genuinely like to understand the reasons behind it.

Rant/Vent Dasara Special train to run via Mangaluru Junction

Thumbnail

Got barely any support from Redditors here for yesterday's request of asking help to amplify the issue of the Dasara special train bypassing Mangaluru.

There were only a few people commenting the same old "communal violence, think before voting" nonsense but not a single person thought it was prudent to at least raise their voices through social media. None of the Mangalore related pages/troll pages joined hands either.

Anyway, the outrage somehow reached where it had to due to political pressure and Daijiworld alone and the train will now run via Mangaluru Junction!

If you're traveling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru tonight and don't have a ticket yet, you can buy a general ticket and board this train from YESWANTPUR at 11:55PM.

AskMangalore Why do so many people from Mangalore choose Dubai over other Gulf countries?

Something I’ve always noticed is that a lot of people from Mangalore end up moving to Dubai/UAE.
You do find Mangaloreans in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi, Oman, Bahrain, etc., but Dubai seems to have a much bigger pull.

What’s the main reason?

Discussion The betrayal of Mangalore, yet again! Can we undo it this time?

Post image
74 Upvotes

This is regarding the matter of Dasara special trains being run by South Western Railway to Madgaon and Kannur, with our city, Mangaluru being left out completely!

Despite having the second grandest Dasara celebration in the state after Mysuru, with the number of buses running between Bengaluru and Mangaluru tomorrow crossing 500, South Western Railway's Mysuru division has betrayed our city by running a train bypassing the city altogether! What makes this betrayal even harder to swallow is the fact that even Kannur, a small city in Kerala has been given a dedicated special train tomorrow!

Our MP seems to have gone completely silent after the region was transferred out of Palghat division, which now looks like an eyewash. As soon as Mangaluru went under SWR, they snatched the Vande Bharat from Mangaluru Central and now we are being denied festival special trains as well.

There are a lot of theories floating around in railway related groups on why this is happening to our city but since those are speculative, it wouldn't be wise to share them here.

As citizens of Kudla, we can and should raise our voices, at least through social media channels and ask why our city and its people are being betrayed like this.

If you're active on social media(X, Insta or FB), please highlight this issue by tagging the MP, South Western Railway's Mysuru division's media handles, V Somanna(MoS for railways) and the railway minister himself(Ashwini Vaishnav). If you run any social media pages relevant to Mangalore, you could help amplify this as well. If you're from the mainstream media and would like to amplify this, please get in touch.

The CM himself is visiting the city today for the festivities, so if someone could apprise him of this issue, that'd be helpful as well!

This is the right time to say enough is enough!

Discussion We complain About KUDA Lobby, but Karnataka has the Emptiest Railway Traffic on the West Coast.

Post image
23 Upvotes

For context, this screenshot is from "RailRadar" a free website that shows train locations across the country.

Looking at this makes me realise that this area definitely needs more trains, the entire stretch from Kannur to Madgaon just looks dead relative to the rest of the west coast.

To be clear, I'm not defending trains skipping Kudla from Bengaluru. A dedicated direct train is definitely needed. But the lobby groups on the West coast seem to have a point.

The problem is they are lobbying for the most infuriating sh*t possible, like yeah skip Mangaluru who cares about a big city our village needs trains to Bengaluru. Dude, come on.

If they want a VB to Bengaluru I think the existing Madgaon train should be shifted to run in the opposite direction, and have both VBs arrive and depart MAQ close to each other in the afternoon, allowing a connection. This way, everyone gets train service.

Discussion Is Mangalorean Konkani cinema suffering from weak storytelling, or am I being too critical?

I've felt this way for a while and genuinely want to know if others agree or if I'm missing something.

While I appreciate the effort that goes into making Konkani films but in most cases I often find them predictable, repetitive and, frankly, boring.

Some scenes are genuinely funny, and the cultural references can be entertaining but as films they suffer from weak screenplay, repetitive humour, extreme stereotypes that sometimes border on offensive, poor pacing, and forced moral lessons. There is also little to no character development.

I wonder whether certain films would work better as short comedy sketches or stage productions rather than full-length features. I understand that budgets might be a concern but I think that shouldnt really affect storytelling.

Are we sometimes confusing cultural familiarity and supporting our language with genuinely good cinema?Am I being unfair? Which films do you consider genuinely well-written, and which ones disappointed you?

I would love to hear views from all sides..

Rant/Vent SWR does it again, Dasara special train bypassing Mangalore city!!!

Post image

Not caring two hoots about our MP's request to operate Dasara special trains from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, the shameless South Western Railway has announced the same old Bengaluru Madgaon Special train via Padil bypass, betraying the city yet again!

There are about 500 buses being operated from Bengaluru to Mangaluru on October 16th, all overpriced yet sold out and the zone that we fought so hard to be under does this to us!

What makes this betrayal even worse is that they have given another dedicated Dasara special train to Kannur of all places while keeping Mangalore out of the equation.

Other I miss Tulunadu and I want to make it my forever home

I've lived in the North for almost all my life, but under some rather unexpected circumstances, I ended up living in Kudla.

Of course, things weren't as rosy as the title might suggest. There was no Instamart or Blinkit when I first moved here, everything shut by 9–10 PM, auto drivers could charge you whatever they pleased, and getting anything delivered from Amazon meant waiting at least a week.

Kudla was nothing like the North, except for the occasional murder that made me feel right at home. /s

Jokes aside, I miss Tulunadu so much.

I miss the rains, the thunder, the greenery, the serenity, the ancient history, the filter coffee, and those scenic roads. Most of all, I miss the peace and tranquillity I never knew I needed until I experienced them here.

I now live in one of India's southern capitals, but a part of me still longs for Tulunadu. Someday, I want to buy a home there, get a vehicle of my own, and explore every corner of the region. I want to document its places, stories, traditions, and history, preserving whatever I can along the way.

I don't want Tulunadu to become another land of glass skyscrapers and concrete jungles. Its history is far too vast, its culture far too rich, and its soul far too precious to be buried beneath the skyline.

Maybe it's strange to feel this attached to a place I haven't spent most of my life in. But sometimes, a place just feels right.

And I think Tulunadu might be that place for me.
