I haven’t been an active redditor in some time, and there has been some nastiness in the comments lately. I would love to pass the responsibility off to someone more passionate! Reply in the comments if interested!

fiz essa maquiagem de Halloween inspirada na Hello Kitty pensando que tinha arrasado, mas pelo visto não ganhou tanta percussão e nem conhecimento como eu esperava que iria dar, tanto trabalho pra quase nada

Recommendations for a rolling make up case?

Hey lovelies!
Getting a start on Christmas shopping and really want to get my fiancé a new professional makeup case. They currently have a tall one on wheels that breaks apart into sections but it’s broken.
Anyone have a recommendation for a solid replacement?
Thanks!!

Discussion Question Old Iris Contacts (Discussion AND Question]

Hello everyone, I watched Prometheus (2012) recently and while Guy Pearce’s Old Age makeup was utterly flawless something felt off about it to me still. I had to pause it and when I did I realized what I felt was wrong: his eyes looked youthful! I couldn’t explain why until I did some googling and came across: Corneal Arcus. This is when your iris gets a light colored ring around the edge of your eye and is a fairly common attribute in older people. Another thing is that the whites of your eyes can turn a slightly blueish hue with age. Yet another thing I have personally noticed is that it almost like the Iris (Corneal Arcus or no) seems to almost blur around the edge into the sclera with advanced age. Young people, no matter their eye color seem to have a very sharp edge on their irises.

Anyway, I’m curious, does anyone know of any company that sells Old Age contacts that mimic these observations?

I’m also curious if anyone else has noticed this tell in younger actors playing older characters in any films and which films & characters if yes.

Thank you!

Discussion Can we get a list of words that are banned here? This is getting difficult.

I just typed up a whole comment and it let me know that there were some words I used that weren’t allowed here.

It let me know like 3 paragraphs in.

The word was “on more mature skin” when discussing eyeshadow placement on crepey, textured skin that someone was asking for advice on.

That is what that’s called. Thats a concern. It’s a feature that many people struggle to work with. Theres nuance in word choice. The skin literally changes as a person matures.

Answering the question, “I have smaller eyes, what can I do to make them appear larger?”

If I said, “on your smaller eyes, you can play with the real estate under your brow bone more if you have it there, or even your temples if you don’t. The goal would be to draw the eye up, and out.”

That’s not insulting..

That’s what the term is. That’s how they themselves referred to that feature. I did not say, “for your beady eyes”, “for your tiny eyes”.

“You do have eyes on the smaller side” is also not always an insult if the question is “do i have eyes on the smaller side?”

Can we just get a list, please? Because…. I had to back and delete half my comment before it even let me know “mature skin” is being mean. It makes it really difficult to be involved in this sub.

Help need help with repressing & depotting!

hi all

ive been wanting to depot, repress and repot ALL of my makeup for a while now.

i really like artist kit company’s palettes and pans they honestly look amazing but they are SO expensive for me since im in australia (the big palettes are $88 each 😭)

does anyone have any cheaper alternatives for pans and palettes? i had a look on ali express but they don’t have much. i found some great options on tao bao (similar to ali express), all the pans i found were the exact same size as artist kit company’s ones and they were literally 2 cents PER PAN!!! but i couldn’t find any palettes that were the same or a similar size to AKC, they either wouldn’t fit the pans properly or the just had way too much left of gapping space. (i calculated the measurements and drew out exactly what i need lol)

lowkey feeling like giving up but i need to start this project !!!

please help 💗

Feeling very discouraged

I’ve been working on improving my makeup skills. I can do winged liner on myself, but I struggle to do it on clients.

I also have tried that method where you apply the shadow and eyeliner, and then wipe upwards from the outer corner. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried (and failed) at this when doing it on myself. I also really want that sharp, winged look from shadow (but without having to use liner for a wing).

I even bought those toothpick style cotton swabs, and I still can’t get the right angle for my eye shape. I actually want to cry 😢 I’m losing so much confidence.

Maybe it’s my technique, maybe it’s the shape of my eyes (European ancestry, but deep set eyes and as “hooded” as they can be for my ancestry. See the linked video, my eyes look like Melissa’s but more deep set). Does anyone who looks like me, have any tips that could help?

I’ve been told by MANY people that I “don’t have the eye shape for a winged eye” and while that may be true, I don’t care. And I don’t care how it looks on me, since I mainly need to master the technique for my clients. But with my eye shape, HOW? 😭

I’m going to work with a few models pretty soon, but I need some tips to practice on my own first.

I’m in my baby makeup artist era, so please be kind. I am just starting to get experience.

Help How to fall in love with makeup again?

I was a huge makeup lover and I would do looks everyday at like 2 am before my skincare routine. I would spend an hour before the mirror. It was therapy for me. I did all sorts of looks, tried drag looks, duochrome looks, graphic ones, glam ones. I both did improv and inspo looks. The problem is that I have been struggling mentally a lot since spring, and I also have body dysmorphia (which even worsens the slump I hit), and an ex-bff of mine constantly criticized and insulted my makeup habits whether it be buying (she bought the same stuff as me) or something else. For some time every time I sid makeup her words would ring in my head. I felt useless and lazy and not creative. Still, I think I geniunely was at a good skill level before. But nowadays I can't find energy nor passion nor the surge of motivation for it.

Something I also worry about is I have so many products that I can make all sorts of looks. It feels like I'm wasting them away. Cream products and lippies expiration dates don't help at all. Eyeshadows, lowkey don't care they don't really expire.

I miss the creativity I used to exert...

I have done so many looks (both original and inspo looks) over the past months but it just doesn't feel right, like it used to. Do you have any tips for me to get that passion back again? Did any of you also hit a slump like this?

App Development Survey

Hello everyone! Long time lurker here! I’m not personally in the beauty industry but am interested in developing a booking app for mobile professionals such as makeup artists, at home masseusses, and more for my portfolio. I would love to interview you via online if possible or if you could help me answer the following questions: I would love to hear more about your experiences so I can develop something that you would actually use!

1.) what do you look for in a booking platform?

2.) mobile focus: what features of a booking app would be helpful for mobile professionals?

3.) what are the things you hate in booking app and platforms?

4.) how does pricing influence your decision on going with a booking platform?

If you could also list out the current booking platform you use, that would be super helpful!

Thank you everyone for your time!

Help Makeup Bags

Hello everyone,

I need some advice. So I’ve currently been out of the makeup industry for nearly a year after my accident last year.
I have a full time job at the moment doing office work. I’m looking to get back into doing makeups mostly bridal, events and clients who want travel to services.
I’m looking to help on the best travel cases, backpacks and lighting to use. If anyone uses any brands, any tips or creators they follow which specialise in this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Before anyone asks, I’m a fully qualified makeup artist and special effects artist along with beauty therapy.

Self Promotion I built a little gig organizer for freelance MUAs — looking for feedback

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a makeup artist and a programmer/project manager by profession, and those two worlds finally collided into a little side project called Penny Palette.

It’s a free web app I built for freelance makeup artists to organize bookings, clients, events, teams, and day-of details—especially those gigs where one booking turns into multiple people, artists, and moving pieces.

I’m opening it up for early access, and I’d genuinely love to hear what you think—either here or through the feedback option in the app.

I’m also curious what you’re using today—Square, spreadsheets, Google Calendar, Notes, or something else. Square integration is on my radar, but I’d love to hear what would actually be useful to you.

Help Stain in Jeans

I'm a student makeup artist, and when in class today, my model/fellow classmate ended up knocking bruise gel out of my hand and it went all over my jeans, is there a good way to get it out?

I'm currently unable to get new jeans, and these are the only pair of pants I own, I don't have many other options right now getting new ones wise unfortunately. they did offer to buy me new ones, but c'mon, we're all students in there, we can't afford those sorts of expenses 😭

(sorry for the bad pictures and the fact it's dry now haha)

I just started as a MUA and I'm researching body glows but I want to know which ones won't transfer or melt throughout the day. I've got my bestie's wedding in a couple weeks and I want to be 100% ready for her.
