Community questionnaire

Believe it or not Hellenic Polytheists of Madison has been running events for over a year now!!?!?! Please take a moment to give us your feedback as we make future plans. Getting info here is vital to us improving in the future so please take a second to help us out (you do not need to be a current member to answer this form). As a matter of fact we really need input from outside our bubble!: https://forms.gle/4DaUrG9ZVFwgTbVc7

Reasonably Priced Indoor Pickleball Courts?

My friends and I got into pickleball this year, and we've been loving it. With winter coming though, I've started looking at what indoor options there are. And I'm a bit shocked at the prices. The big names that pop up when I search seem to be charging way more than I'd expect. The cheapest I saw was like $15 per person.

So, is there anywhere that won't cost us $60+/week? We're not needing all the fancy club / membership amenities. Just a court that isn't snowed out and freezing.

Parking around Majestic Theater?

I’m going alone to the Majestic in a couple weeks for a concert and I’m unfamiliar with the area. Any suggestions for a good, close and safe place to park my vehicle? Thanks.

Is it too much to ask for street racers to please stay off the beltline?

I hate to sound like some internet karen. But can we please have some kind of gentlemans agreement to not race on the beltline? Keep street racing on the streets. I have a hard enough time paying for gas and rent and just got new tires cuz of all the driving to my job and now i have to pay for an all new mirror because someone in a souped up car going 80-100 needed to thread the needle between me and a semi truck round exit 261.

Please! Im not even demanding who did it to pay up for it i just dont want innocent people getting hurt.

I worked at Check 'n Go for over 12 years. I'm just reaching out to see if anybody else worked there and they did not get paid for overtime because they were forced to work off the clock after 40 hours, or if there was any retaliation from the company. I posted what happened to me back in February to this thread. I'm just reaching out to see if there's other associates who did work there so we could get justice for what they did.

Annual Big Gay Spooky Market this weekend

Post image
103 Upvotes

This year’s Big Gay Spooky market is this Sunday, October 25th!

If you’re new (or old) to the area, this is a super fun free Halloween event to check out.

Here are the details:
October 25th from 10am-4pm
Wisconsin Rugby Complex in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin

- Over 60 local vendors (both indoors and outdoors)
- Drag queens
- Free trick or treating (no age limit, participating vendors will have signs at their booth)
- Hot food available for purchase from Naan Stop Fusion
- Costumes encouraged!

The building is ADA accessible and the market is held on smooth ground. This event is hosted both indoors AND outdoors. Masks (surgical masks) are required to shop in the indoor portion and will be provided free of charge. If you do not wish to wear a mask, they are not required for the outdoor portion.

Let’s get spooky y’all! 👻

NOTE: I am one of the vendors participating in this event, not the event organizer. Hope to see yall there!

To The Red Subaru on John Nolan (& General Rant)

I bet this has been posted many times over - but I have had the absolute misfortune of having to travel back and forth down John Nolan this week and its been aweful - everytime.

Today around 6:05 PM I was nearly killed by someone in a Red Subaru who saw me coming down the empty lane alongside traffic (because everyone merges, despite the two signs that say DO NOT MERGE and MERGE HERE) and jumped into the lane to cut me off. At first I thought maybe they where trying to use the empty lane to jump ahead and didn't see me - but no they stayed there and flipped me off like I was the one who did something wrong after they nearly killed us.

The thing thay urks me is they go home feeling the hero, justified to do it anytime they go down John Nolan. Like they stood up for the people who waited there turn and did what nobody would be so bold to do - even though they are just activly making traffic less safe and much worse. I wanted to get out and tell them to just Google "Zipper Merge" when they got home (or maybe in a not so nice way -" I was just following the road signs dumb ass")

I will say, on a couple of my trips Ive seen the zipper merge preformed flawlessly, and getting through that stretch was a breeze - but today was my reminder that not all of us are aware of the rules of the road.

Are there still fall colors at the Arboretum or Picnic Point?

I’m hoping to see some fall colors without leaving Madison. Are the trees still colorful at the UW Arboretum or Picnic Point, or have most of the leaves already fallen? Any other spots within Madison you’d recommend? Thanks!

Anyone know of anything good to do on the 31st?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for something to do but we are both 18 so we can’t go to any bars or anything i’m assuming. I’ve been looking around at what’s open for haunted houses and festivals but wanted to know what people recommend. Our friends are all have separate plans so our idea of throwing a get together is out the window.

I love halloween so much and I don’t want to waste another year. I already picked out our costumes and everything and i’m super excited so i’m looking for something that preferably allows dressing up as well.

What's going on with Wonderstate?

I noticed that they have a "temporary hours" sign on their door with extremely reduced hours--only open 7am-1pm most days and closed completely on Mondays. There's also a "hiring for all positions" sign on the door. Anyone know what's going on?

Recommend a Bar for World Series

What would be a good bar to watch the World Series on Friday? Ideally, the bar will be playing the audio of the game.

I could watch this at home, but want to share in the excitement/energy of the event.

Go Brewers!

Best Fruit in the Area

What is everyone’s go to place to buy fruit? I have found that getting my fruit from Woodman’s is such a waste of money given it goes bad or moldy by like day three after purchase.

Looking to Watch Soccer & College Gameday at 9am this Saturday

Will be in town this Saturday morning and I'm hoping to catch a 9am soccer match airing on USA and some College Gameday at the same time. Are there any sports bars open at 9am on/near campus? I've heard Coopers may be an option...any tips are appreciated!

Commute Estimate - Far East Side to West Towne Mall

I'm contemplating a new job located near West Towne Mall. From my home on the far East side, a mid-day drive is roughly 25-30m. Anyone know what this drive is like during morning/afternoon rush hour? Google Maps gives a very wide range of 25-50m o_0.

Many thanks m8s!

Local book clubs

I am looking for a book club. Ideally it would meet in person and read a variety of books not just one genre. If it was a group of mainly 30’s-50’s that would be even better. Anyone know of such a group?
