Weekly Goalsetters] Need a Plan of attack for week? Get and give inspiration here!

Welcome to the League of Extraordinary Goal Setters! The idea of this weekly thread is to write down goals, and break them up into 7 day chunks by figuring out what specific part of the goal you’re working on during the week, and then checking in with each other how the week went. If you want to learn more about setting goals and improving your habits, check out this website: https://jamesclear.com/continuous-improvement

Obviously, if you’re here, one of the goals is probably to lose weight. Whether that’s 2 or 200 pounds, it’s not going to be accomplished by doing one single thing today. However, losing weight is absolutely the product of a million small changes — the small things we do each day add up to big changes over time. To quote James Clear: “If you get one percent better each day for one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done.” So, let’s start breaking it on down!

Remember, all threads live and die by comments, so please jump in and support your fellow League members! Check in here with how your week went, and what your goals are for this week.

What’s a small goal you can work towards this week?

Be savagely honest…. Will losing the weight help we find love if I never had it before?

I know this sounds pathetic.

31m. 6’ 2’’.

I’ve been obese my entire life. 355 the last few years. I’ve never dated a woman. I’ve never held a girls hand… as pathetic as that sounds. I numbed myself for years and as my friends got married… I just kept reminding myself I was destined to be alone… as toxic as that sounds.

I decided I wanted to be a dad someday. I want to experience a relationship. I want to know what it’s like to build a life with someone. And if I don’t change… I’ll either die before I get a chance or even if I do live a long life… no woman would want to build a life with me.

So I fucking grinded.

I’m now 281. 74 pounds in 5 months. I’ve worked my ASS off. My goal is 220. My “healthy” weight is 197… but that seems too skinny for my height and build. Maybe I’m way off.

I’m a schoolteacher. I own a house. I support myself. I’d like to think I’m kind, funny, confident. But I know my weight is holding me back.

I’m prepared to lock in the next five months and lose 61 more pounds.

But I need to know… is this really going to help me? Am I finally going to get little glances abd smiles abd signals to approach? Is 220 even enough at my height (6’ 2’’) to get positive attention?

I just want to make a woman happy and be a great husband and dad someday. My dad was an asshole to my mom… and I want to support a woman in a way my dad never was to my mom.

How much will this fight realistically help me do those things?

The power of being mentally locked in

Good Morning all! I was 30lbs down yesterday in only 40 days. Ate some Wingstop wings and voodoo fries because it was in my calorie limit of 1500 calories a day but it brought me up a bit this morning but not a lot (I'm assuming because of the sodium). Like .4lbs.

So what did I decide to do? Go for a walk this morning like I normally would and my plan is to eat like I normally would today. I am not going to let it hold me back. I'm just going to keep it going.

Not eat less. Not work out more. Just do like I normally would because the weight will drop eventually.

In the past, I would freak out and either go into binge mode for the whole weekend or eat far less than what I should and work out far more than I need to.

But I am not doing that this time. And I think that's what is making the journey this time the most successful because I have never lost this amount of weight so fast.

I know it's going to slow down tremendously, but I'll be happy to see some progress even if it's just a little bit.

My stats are: 34F SW:336.6 on Sept. 13th and 306.6 on Oct. 23rd. But 307 as of this morning.

So my hope is to reach twotopia soon!

Let me get this straight... It's all about how many calories you eat in a day?

What I mean is... If my protein, carbs and fat come from cheeseburgers for the whole day, it wouldn't be that much different than someone whose protein, carbs and fat come from a Mediterranean diet as long as total calories are the same?

This is not about long term health. This is just straight up weight loss and keeping the weight off.

I've always thought that food selection was everything. There was a high school teacher who once told the entire class that eating a whole tub of garbanzo beans is fine because garbanzo beans are "healthier" than other types of food.

I've lost 50 pounds but feel like I haven't lost anything

• Upvotes

I started losing weird at 315 pounds at 5'7" so I was very obese. Over the last six months I've managed to lose 50 pounds with a combination of intense exercise and CICO. But it's hard to feel like I've accomplished anything when I'm still obese! I know I should be celebrating the victory of getting the first 50 pounds down, but instead I just feel depressed about how much more I have to go. I'm still wearing the same clothes, just with a belt, and worse off, people still treat me as "some gross obese dude" on the street. The people who know I've lost weight tell me it's great, but I can tell they expect me to lose a lot more. Anyways, not sure what else to say about this, just wanted to vent a bit since I can't tell anyone else this.

Cutting out olive oil when from the Mediterranean… just venting

I eat incredibly healthy but struggle with weight loss. I am working on decreasing the amount of food I eat and increasing my activity. I just started tracking my calories more intentionally and… holy! Olive oil is so many calories and it’s in EVERYTHING my husband and I, and our families, eat. (I am Greek, he is Palestinian). Has anyone else struggled with this?

Like seriously, I will have to rethink my relationship to cooking and food as a whole. My family has an olive farm and some of my family members seriously drink a little olive oil when they wake up. We have never once counted or rationed it because we get it in huge jugs from my family’s farm. There is hardly any food my husband and I eat that doesn’t have some oil in it.

I had zeit and zataar for breakfast, and I’m having stuffed tomatoes right now for lunch (which sit in a bed of olive oil and tomato sauce and lemon). I really don’t even know where to begin! But I will find a way. I don’t know if people outside the Med can understand just how much we use olive oil. Most dishes are left with a bunch of oily tomatoey sauce at the bottom of the dish to eat with bread. We even put olive oil and lemon juice on our boiled vegetables.

Has anyone else struggled with this when olive oil has literally been like water growing up?

I don’t need advice. I know what I need to do. I’m just in mourning ☹️😭🫒

Title: I’m 230 lbs and want to get down to 170 lbs by March. How do I realistically do this with my lifestyle?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some genuine advice on losing weight and getting healthier because I’m honestly tired of feeling like this.
I currently weigh around 230 lbs, and my goal is to get down to 170 lbs. Ideally, I’d like to make as much progress as possible by March, but I also want to do this in a way that’s sustainable and actually improves my health.
I have some skin issues that seem to be made worse by my weight, and I really want to get those under control. I’m tired of dealing with them, and I want to feel better about myself overall.
The problem is that my lifestyle makes things difficult.
I work in road construction, so I work long hours, spend a lot of time on my feet, and don’t always have great options for lunch. I’m often exhausted by the time I get back to my hotel or home, so the idea of spending another hour working out is just not realistic for me.
I also can’t do much cardio because my blood pressure can get dangerously high with exercise. I’m talking about potentially reaching stroke-range readings, so I can’t just jump into running or intense workouts.
I’m looking for advice on things like:
Food: What are some easy, realistic meals I can eat while working construction? I don’t always have access to a proper kitchen, and I need things that are easy to pack or prepare.
Exercise: Are there any beginner-friendly workouts I can do in a hotel room in 30 minutes or less? Nothing too intense or cardio-heavy.
Weight loss: What should my daily calorie intake look like, and how do I figure out a reasonable deficit?
Energy and motivation: How do you stay consistent when you’re working long hours, stressed out, and exhausted all the time?
Realistic expectations: Is getting from 230 to 170 lbs by March even realistic, or should I adjust my timeline?
I know stress, sleep, and nutrition all play a role, and I’m not expecting a miracle. I just need a plan that works with my actual life instead of one that assumes I have hours of free time every day.
I’m tired of feeling tired, I want to improve my health, and I’m ready to make changes. I just don’t know where to start.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, especially people who work long hours or travel for work, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you!

Edit: After reading some of the comments, I realize that getting down to 170 lbs by March probably isn’t realistic. I’m changing my goal to July instead! I’m still looking for advice on how to make this work with my job, exhaustion, and limitations with exercise. I really appreciate everyone’s input so far!

I think you have to treat yourself from time to time otherwise you'll be tempted to cheat anyway

So far i lost 50 lbs this year. I was 280 now i'm 230. I eat chixken, chicken sausage, salmon, swordfish, steak , sausage, egg whites, ostmeal , rice, broccoli, and wheat bread,

Lately i've been tempted to eat something sweet and i find myself eating too healthy not give me any wiggle room. So today i'm gonna buy a big black and white cookie and a cannolis. i'm gonna treat myself.

Do you guys treat yourself with sweet a or other food? What do you eat ? if you don't treat yourself are you tempted to treat yourself?

I'm in the danger zone.

As of this morning, I've lost 30 kgs/66lbs in about 8 months, from 135 kgs to 105 (297 to 231 lbs). I've still got about 20kgs/44lbs to lose. (M31, 1,84m/6'0")

Sounds great until I remember this is the fourth time I've reached that exact weight, from the same starting weight, in about the same time. So I need to take a good hard look at my situation to avoid regaining once gain.

My last 3 attempts stopped at that point and I've regained the weight in about a year each time. I have a hard time pinpointing one specific reason it happens. I'm guessing I was tired, my deficit was too high for too long and my cravings were out of control. I've also neglected to exercise and probably lost a lot of muscle mass.

That being said, each attempt was a learning process :

  • First attempt : CICO (1000cal deficit), barely checking my macros and eating ultra-processed food
  • Second attempt : CICO (1000cal deficit), IF, less processed food
  • Third attempt : CICO (1000cal deficit), high protein diet, weight training ( started at the end, right before regaining the weight and didn't stick with it for long)

I'm trying to reframe my previous "failures" as just learning about what works and doesn't. This is what I ended up with :

  • CICO (1000 cal deficit -> 750 cal deficit -> 625 cal deficit) - will go down to 500 when I'm closer to my goal weight to transition into body recomp later on.
  • High protein, high fiber food, avoid added sugars and ultra-processed food - cook more often, keep healthy snacks on hand
  • Weight training 3x times a week
  • At least 8000 steps a day

What's humbling is you can find those guidelines in half the posts in this sub but it took me years to implement them.

My weight loss slowed down a lot but I'm in a better headspace, I don't feel as tired as before and I feel like I can keep going. What seemed overwhelming a few months ago is now manageable. More importantly, I feel like I'm actually making long lasting changes to my lifestyle that will persist after I've lost the weight.

Still, I can't help dreading the fact that I could fail again, that's why I felt the need to write this post and remind myself where I'm at.

Hopefully, by the end of the year, I will have reached a lower weight than ever before and proved to myself that I'm on the right path.

Thank you for reading and good luck to anyone working hard. 🔥

As a lifelong Winter fan, 90lbs down and I understand why skinny people prefer summer

it’s 70° out, im buried under two blankets and a heated blanket and i’m still shivering. i’m literally always cold, my bones chatter. I’m taking iron supplements but I am not prepared for this winter. I turned on my heat two weeks ago. I went from always being sweaty by default to always being cold.

I am dreading having to take my dog out for bathroom breaks this winter. I am dreading having to buy a new coat, they are so expensive. I am struggling to see the positive in weight loss. I know, my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery.

Can you live a long life if you were once obese your whole life but lost the weight?

300 pounds 5’5, 30 year old female and I’m absolutely terrified of dying because of my weight. I am ready to lose weight because of my health.
I am a hypochondriac and I have gone to MULTIPLE doctor appointments and had so much blood work, ECG’s etc done to make sure my health is okay. My Doctors have never brought up anything concerning or regarding my weight.

I worry about the long lasting effects even after weight loss. I want to have a sustainable structured lifestyle with eating and fitness. Has anyone else been in this boat?

Stress eating? How do you cope with it?

I don know how to feel if im healthy or not. Im sligtly overweight after loosing about 20kg when i was at my lowest in june this year, i have gained some back around 5-6kg. I kept to a strict diet until the summer when i lost track.

And now I have began eating pretty unhealthy again. I know why, I'm soon entering the last month on my masters thesis and i have a lot of stress juggling it with job, and applying for a relevant job after graduating. Stress eating have always been something i do, when i have to cope with something stressing, such as a deadline or exam period, i just go back to my comfort food/drinks(suggary soda/energy drinks) while i work with the stuff i need. But i hate it, but at the same time i am afraid if i dont eat i will think about food and loose energy which could impact my performance. But at the same time prolonged eating of unhealthy food will also impact my mental performance. Its a dificult lemma. :/

But i try to compensate by maintaining a very consistent training schedule, i have had something around this schude a long time time, even before my recent food relapse,so its not just train for to compensate for unhealthy food, even if it feels like that now. I try to train 30m some type of cardio each moring mon-fri and some type of resistance (core/push/pull/legs) In the afternoon. Not just to burn calories, but also maintaining heathy body functions and i enjoy it an need to strengthen some muscles due to some ligament issues. I am slowly gaining wieght but my issue is if i should accept this wieght gain the next month and a half, at the same time my goal. I hope i can maintain some healty with my training.

How are your experiences with dealing with stress eating and having to performe when choosing food noise or unhealthy lifestyle in stressfull situations?

Motivation needed

I’m at a loss (mentally) and I don’t know what to do. I have about 5 stone to lose after losing 2 stone in 18 months. I’m going to get my knees replaced in 5 months and I need to be as physically fit as possible. I just have no motivation at all and I don’t know how to get it back. Not only do I need to, but I WANT to lose weight. Im AuDHD and I don’t know if that’s a factor. I’ve also restarted antidepressants in case it’s a low mood issue. I’ve bought motivation books but they haven’t worked.
Real people of the internet, give me your best tips!
Thank you all!

Super proud of myself!

I was down to 374 before leaving on vacation a couple of weeks ago. And I knew I was gonna gain weight over the week. I made my peace with it and had beer and cheese and bread and all the things.

I got home and the next day and I had put on 6lbs. I honestly think it was gonna be more. But I went right back to my normal way of eating.

A week later and as of today, I’m at my pre-vacation weight!! I’m super happy and like. I know it was water weight so it was gonna drop as soon as I went back to normal, but I am happy I didn’t spiral and use it as an excuse to just go “screw it” and abandon this journey all together.

Went on holiday for 3 weeks, came back half a stone heavier

• Upvotes

I am SO disheartened!! I went on holiday to Japan for 3 weeks, and even though I was walking tons a day (15-20k steps) I still managed to put on about 8lbs, when I had just lost this much before i left. So i feel like my progress has been totally undone.

To make things worse i'm finding it really hard to get back to my routine and calorie budget, I went out for walks all the time in the summer but now it's super cold and wet and I basically just feel really bummed. I thought i'd gain maybe 2-3lbs at most but not that much. It's clear looking at myself too, i can physically see where i've gained and it's horrible. No idea how to get back into it and lose it all again.

Scale is going down but I cant see it in my reflection, Could it be that I’m losing muscle instead of fat

• Upvotes

I’ve been on a deficit for 6 weeks now and I’m 4 kg down which I’m very pleased with. However I can’t seem to see the 4kg loss on my body. I know you can’t spot reduce fat but I literally dont see a change anywhere. Especially my face and my hips which are where I gained most of the weight on.

I’m a bit apprehensive that this is all muscle and not fat that is burning off of my body. I try to walk where I can but it’s been difficult as I’m in school from 8am - 6pm. I am doing home workouts everyday. I’m trying my best to get healthy and hit my protein goals but I would lying if I said I’ve been consistent with that.

Anyways, If anyone has gone through the same thing or has advice please share

Can this step increase explain this weight loss??

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve lost 7.4 kg (16 lbs) in the last year without doing big changes in my diet, but I think I eat slightly less (from 72.4 kg down to 65 kg).

However, looking at my tracker, my daily steps have skyrocketed since April. Here is my quarterly data:

Sept–Nov 2024: 10,036 steps/day
Dec 2024–Feb 2025: 11,759 steps/day
Mar–May 2025: 14,649 steps/day
June–Aug 2025: 12,511 steps/day
Sept–Nov 2025: 10,837 steps/day
Dec 2025–Feb 2026: 12,165 steps/day
Mar–May 2026: 13,168 steps/day (Loss started around April)
June–Aug 2026: 13,387 steps/day
Sept–Oct 2026: 17,443 steps/day (All-time high)
To put this in perspective, I even had three days where I walked over 30,000 steps.

On average, I'm doing 5,000–6,500 more steps every day compared to last year. Does this increase alone explain a steady 7.4 kg drop over 12–14 months, or does it sound like too much weight for just walking?

(Note: I feel totally fine, but I'll get a routine blood test just to be safe).

Metabolic adaption

• Upvotes

II know metabolic adaptation has been discussed dozens of times, but I've seen several different explanations and a bit confused what is right or what most of the science community agrees is right.

Does the body compensate for exercise every time you work out, or does that compensation only occur after you've adapted to the exercise by doing the same workout for an extended period?

Alternatively, does meaningful compensation only occur when total daily energy expenditure exceeds roughly 2.5× BMR, as suggested by Pontzer's constrained energy expenditure model?

Or are all three of these mechanisms occurring simultaneously?

How to handle maintenance phase?

I know that this isn't a sub for maintenance, but it got me to my goal weight and I couldn't find anywhere else to ask. Please tell me if this should go somewhere else.

I've been at my goal weight and maintaining for a few weeks now, but I reached a sudden hiccup in the process: I've had pneumonia for the last few days and I don't know how to eat exactly. While I was losing, I would switch to maintenance when I was sick, but now I am sick and already at maintenance and I've lost quite a bit of weight again since getting sick. Obviously I'm done losing and this isn't a good sign for my health (at least I think), so what are you supposed to do when you get sick at your goal weight? Should I aim for a surplus? It feels counterintuitive and I can't find any real resources online. What are the numbers you should aim for when sick at maintenance?

Terrified of old habits

23M 5'4" (163cm) 207lbs (94kg)

I've been on a solid weight loss journey since November of 2025. The one year anniversary is coming fast and I'm closing in on a total of 60lbs (27kg) of weight loss, as well as almost reaching onederland.

I'm aiming for a drastic deficit of about 1100 kcals. Although it is advised against, it works out for me because I always eat over my established goal, sometimes even over maintenance, so it averages out.

I worked out my average intake from the start of April until now to be about 1636 kcal/day (in order to disregard the higher intake from holidays). From April until now I've also lost 42lbs (20kg) which is a deficit of 696 kcal/day. I also found out I'm a whopping 3 inches shorter than I thought I was, which adds another 20 lbs to lose until BMI 21! Never base your height on another person's height. Lesson learned.

On the positive side, however, according to the average intake and deficit my TDEE is about 2300 kcal/day, even though I'm shorter than I thought and also sedentary.

All this to say; I am terrified, mortified, of my old habits popping back up. This is far from my first attempt at weight loss, I've been trying since I was 12 years old. But it's the first attempt to actually feel like I'm doing it, and I can't help but shake all those other times in which I felt the same way but ended up undoing my progress. Especially now that I'm looking at a total goal loss of 140lbs (64kg). This is my first attempt since pre-pandemic where I manage to go below 220lbs (100kg).

I guess I think to myself that if it happened before, it's bound to happen again. Also reading the stories where people detail how they lost great amounts of weight and ended up regaining it all plus some more definitely contributes a bit to the anxiety. Anyone else going through similar feelings?

What’s a good weight to be @ 5’4?

• Upvotes

19F currently about 70.30kg/155lb, I started at 97.52kg/215lbs so i’ve lost a total of 60lbs so far, but I don’t feel like I really look how I want to currently.

I keep thinking “10-15lbs more and we’ll see where I am.” but I don’t know where a good stopping point is? I have about 13 weeks before an event I want to look and feel my best for but I think max i’d be able to lose 1.5-2lb/1kg per week healthily which would be about 25-26lb/11.79kg.

If i did that successfully it would bring me down to like 120lb/54.43kg but even then I don’t necessarily know what to expect or if that’s a good range to be in, obviously yes it’s better than where i’m at right now but I’m unsure if that’s a good place to be building muscle or if I should try to get to 115lb/52.16kg and then build muscle to get to about 125-135lb/56.7-61.23kg afterwards?

How do you recover from an extraordinarily bad cheat day

I’ve lost 30 pounds and have 30 more pounds to go but I haven’t lost any weight in the last month. It feels like it’s just stagnant. I still feel like I’ve been eating good and exercising when I can but it’s just not enough anymore. I think I’ve been slowly losing confidence in my ability to do this. Today I guess I just gave up. Like for example I’ll normally take my burger out of the bun, well today I ate it with the bun and ate the rest of my son’s unfinished burger too. I didn’t follow my rules for lunch either (I’m mainly trying to do keto.) And I snuck a few pieces of candy we have for Halloween. Overall I bet I had 2500 calories today and I should be eating like 1500 to lose weight. I’m just hating myself and how gross I feel and I’m starting to lose motivation. How do I get back on the bandwagon because I really need to lose the rest of this weight 😭
