SOLVED ISO help upgrading Linux Mint

Hey All,

I have a Surface Pro that had windows 10 on it which I changed over to Linux Mint about 3 years ago. I tried to update it to 'Virginia' last year but I have been having a bunch of trouble due to my lack of computer language and skills. I have an account with Github and that is where I got the instructions and guides for upgrading, however, this is learning a new language for me and I lack the confidence to do this on my own.

Can someone please point me in the right direction to get help with upgrading to the latest version of Mint?

Thanks,

Nancy Dianna

Did you just check the Mint website for upgrade instructions? It's usually just sudo apt install mintupgrade and then run sudo mintupgrade and it handles it for you...

I did not use that command. I did a search in Github that gave me instructions to download the upgrade onto a USB then install that into my Surface Pro. I used my PC to put it in the USB then uploaded it into my tablet.

Thank you so much for the help!

I used the link given above and my tablet did the update and rebooted with no issues.

What "GitHub instructions" did you find? You can just update with the Update Manager app or with sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade && sudo apt autoremove && systemctl reboot (you'll have to press "Y" and hit Enter a few times to accept the updates).

I'm not sure about what instructions I found, I just did a search and followed instructions to use a USB to download the upgrade onto then used that to upload into the surface pro. Now I have a reminder to install the 'Virginia' upgrade in the update manager but I get an error message when I try to execute it.

I would like to get rid of the 'Virginia' upgrade, as it is older, and upgrade to the newest one.

Can I just use the command you provided?

I also don't understand how to use the Flair on here, which I got a message from the moderator to do.

That isn't upgrading versions, which I think is what u/NancyDianna is trying to do. That being said, there is ample official documentation.

There should be directions in the update manager but I think you only see it as a notification if an upgrade is available because I just checked and don’t see it now but have before.
