Mod Announcement TSV’s latest video and what this means for the subreddit

Twoset Violin released the video It’s been a fun journey on October 13, 2026. In summary, they each have things they want to do outside of Twoset Violin, and will be focusing on those separate projects for the future. They might do something for Twoset Violin again in the future, but made no guarantees. They aren’t ending the channel and will leave all the videos up.

Currently, Twoset Apparel is having a 40% off End of Tour sale. But that ends on October 15, 2026. If you want to follow Brett and Eddy directly: * Brett’s personal Instagram account “brettybang”. * Eddy’s personal Instagram account “eddy_adventure”.

If they have other active personal accounts, please list them in the comments.

While TwoSet Violin may have gathered us together, this community has grown beyond just music memes. Many of us have picked up new instruments, or dusted old ones off, and practiced 40 hours. Some of us attended our first live classical music concerts because of TSV. Ling Ling wannabes have also supported each other through tough times with empathy, advice and comfort. Many budding musicians and composers have posted their performances, and we have provided constructive feedback and encouragement.

This subreddit will remain open. The Mod Team supports Brett and Eddy’s new journeys and will continue their goal to promote classical music and musicians.

Thank you, The LL40hrs Mod Team

Mod announcement New Post Guidance: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

There has been an increase of posts featuring non-descriptive titles and little to no body text, sometimes only with a picture or series of pictures. These low-effort posts do little to contribute to the community. Posts with only a Title and pictures can also be barriers to people with accessibility needs, since it can be be difficult to see the details. This also can affect people who are using Reddit on phones & other devices with small screens.

Therefore, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer: Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

If you have any questions, please contact the Mod Team through ModMail. Thank you,

Vent/rant I'm quite gutted with them "starting new", honestly

I remember stumbling upon them during COVID when i had nothing but adjusting to online university and rediscovering my love for classical music, especially classical piano which i quite resented because i wanted to quit piano since i was in elementary

My parents signed me up for piano course when i was six — i was just started to read fluently. But as my grade got higher, my piano teacher's approach slowly didn't do well for me. I even developed minor injury on my left wrist due to the wrong technique i used for years. And yet, my parents never considered switching teachers. I felt stuck for years, even scored the lowest Merit score on grade 5 ABRSM. I couldn't even remember how many times i asked my mum to let me quit piano because i don't enjoy playing it anymore, but her answer was always the same, "you can get certifications on your skills and you can earn money from it.". I didn't want certifications. I wanted to get away from Czerny, Sonatina Album, and that one Mozart sonata i hate with all my being! How am i supposed to get certifications when i didn't even have a clear path?

Then i graduated high school and pandemic hit, so naturally the courses stopped. I tried practicing — really trying. But all I felt was just anger, disappointment to myself, and frustration on "why can't i do this right? Why can't i produce the sound i want?". So i stopped playing

But then...i stumbled upon TwoSet's video on my Youtube feed

They piqued my interest, because classical music comedy? Oh this is InTeReStInG. I forget what video it was, but i remember watching it, and then another video, and another video, until i got to the bottom of viola jokes, Ling Ling, and even ingraining the "practice 40 hours a day" even though i no longer play any instrument. They revived my love for classical music, interested me in exploring all sorts of it, even made me take short courses of classical music history. I even started saving money to watch their concert when they finally put my country on the "To be Announced" list of their tour, because i'm too broke to travel overseas

But i will never be able to watch their live tour, won't i?

But still, however it is, i hope it is for the best of Brett and Eddy

Thank you TwoSet, for everything

Vent/rant some thoughts on Brett and eddy

Hey guys, I’m not sure if it’s appropriate but I just had to get some things off my chest.

I went to their last sacrilegious games show in Taipei on sept.30, Brett just seemed a bit off…he looked really tired and I could feel a bit of 無奈 (sorry not sure the English translation, kinda like resignation + helplessness + melancholy?) in his overall demeanor.

I saw a comment on YouTube saying the “It’s been a fun journey” video was filmed backstage at the Taipei national concert hall…or maybe he could have just been tired because of touring?

I really hope Brett and eddy are still friends.

Heh I don’t really know where I’m going with this and just to make clear these are only my personal wondering alouds :)

Art & creations I wanted to keep the Ling Ling practice spirit alive on my digital planner, so I made this Mewzart sticker to help motivate my 40 hours! 🐾🎹

Post image
0 Upvotes

I wanted to share this Mewzart graphic I put together to decorate my digital music theory notebooks and help keep the 40 hours practice spirit alive. I am trying to organize a whole collection of these classical music animal jokes (like Owlbach, Barkhoven, and Lionfzt) just to make studying a bit more fun.

Since a few friends asked for the clean, transparent file to use on their own iPad templates or Goodnotes pages, I uploaded it to a public drive folder so anyone here can grab it for their own practice logs.

Feel free to check out the details on my profile page if you want to use it. Let me know what instrument or composer pun I should try to make next!

Sheet music can i get your thoughts on my violin concerto

Here's the links:

thanks

parts i like:

  • mendelssohn inspired first theme, and lyrical 2nd theme
  • the beautiful section starting measure 92, which slowly transforms the motif from theme 1 to basic arpeggios playing harmonies inspired by rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto
  • how energetic the coda is. (it starts on measure 205, and I accidentally labeled it the cadenza)

parts I don't like or am unsure about

  • I'm not sure whether the virtuosic parts like the string crossings starting measure 63 are comfortable to play or not (i'm not a violinist). Additionally, that section feels repetitive.
  • Even though I like the cadenza, I feel like it's too short and not satisfying enough to resolve the tension that's been built up throughout the piece.
  • the transition to the recapitulation starting measure 185 feels abit weird to me, particularly measure 190 where the key changes. I went from B major to C major which should work because it goes up a semitone, and I think beethoven did something similar in his 7th symphony, but I just feel it's a bit weird.

Also, I'm looking for a friend to talk about composing stuff with, and have fun. If you're interested in composing, text me on reddit or comment please. thanks.

also, super sad twoset is ending. they introduced me to a lot of the composers that I listen to and admire today. love them.

Discussion The slow decline of goofiness.

Hey guys, i've been keeping up with TSV recently as I had kinda stopped watching after their "retirement" but now that i see it, twoset really lost their goofiness and their OG style of content that the fans loved and still love. More importantly, after bretts new yt channel, i have started connected some dots(no bias) and have come to a few personal conclusions. Eddy has seemed more... quiet in the videos of 2026 and late 2025, ever since he announced his engagement(congrats on that btw) and its very subtle but there's this... awkward tension, eerie pauses. almost like they were, or specifically eddy, making videos for the sake of them.

It is quiet sad to see. In my opinion, Brett had wanted to continue yt and eddy wants to settle down in his life. which is why this whole falling out thing happened and they might really be gone for good. no activity on eddy's side, which is also interesting. what do y'all think.

P.S i think tsv reallly did want to retire in 2024 and were basically bullied into coming back and have been dragging this chanel since.

Vent/rant Spent half of my life with TwoSet, and didn't get a single chance to say goodbye in person.

Guys, I've followed TwoSet for basically half of my life, since 2018. They introduced me to classical music and helped me pick up an instrument and learn. They were my practice motivation and my entire sense of humour and personality. When they decided to take an indefinite break in 2024, believe me, as a hormonal teenager, I felt aches more severe than a breakup. They had helped me in dark times, and all their videos were gone. I searched all corners of the internet to find them. When they were reuploaded, I took an entire day to download all of them onto my device. When they came back with videos, I watched them all.

Being a broke teenager is hard, since my parents don't get my interests and are the typical asian parents who *told* me to go to a med school. So they never agreed to buy any TwoSet merch for me, and never took me to any concert. This time, especially, I told myself, "When I get money, I'll go to a TwoSet show." And now I can't. I literally can't. This has put me in a dark place. I tried searching for concert videos and everything, but it just made me sadder. Now, all I have left is to buy merch. Have a piece of the journey. But right now I don't have money, and I've always wanted the varsity jacket. But I'm planning to start a part-time job to earn that money. It's low-key not even a job; it's just doing some assignments for younger students. I can't get a proper job cuz I don't get time out of my studies. Till then, could ya'll not buy the varsity jacket? Cuz that's all that's left that will make me happy. I don't even know if they'll ever restock the merch.

Discussion Why are there so many people mocking twoset and saying they are not funny?

They haven't done anything wrong, they are just making jokes for entertainment. They make people love classical music. Like me. But i keep seeing people saying meh to them and saying they aren't funny. I even saw someone saying they are racist. Why?.

I think their jokes is really funny, some of them.

Discussion I like Kassia more than Rousseau

we all know that piano interpretations on youtube are dominated by those two channels (and similar) with those scrolling piano notes in different colours.

But even tho Rousseau is the more famous/well-known of these types of videos, I have learnt to appreciate Kassias play over Rousseaus over many years.

I feel like Rousseaus is a little more "by the book" and Kassia likes to experiment more in their interpretations.

for example: both have uploaded their interpretation of moment musicaux No.4 from Rachmaninoff. Rousseau plays it more "clean" and Kassia plays it more chaotic (which I find more fitting for that piece)

don't get me wrong, they both know how to play but I just preffer Kassias "passion/crazy" over Rousseaus strict/academic approach

what do yall think? am I completely off-base with my labeling or do yall feel the same?

Mod announcement Reminder: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

To encourage better post quality, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted. Check the pinned post about this rule for the full reason of the change.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer:

  • Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Explain how you came across it.
  • Include alternative text for any attached images. Alternative text is a description of the picture. It allows people who are blind or have low-vision to understand the image with screen-reader technology. This is also useful for those with small screens or have slow connections.
  • Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place or Where are you located if you’re asking for instrument /teacher advice? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?
  • if you're linking a news article, summarize the article by explaining how it's relevant and encourage people to read the full article to form their own opinion.

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. Please always check your notifications after submitting content. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

Discussion People who have TSV friends online or IRL - how did you make friends?

Sorry if this is a weird time to post this, I know most people are focused on processing the retirement right now.

I was watching TwoSet's video on adult beginners and noticed how many fans make friends with other fans.

TLDR, how did you do it? How did you meet? If you made friends online, how does that even work? I think I'm too old to get how people make friends online but I'm curious. Or if you made friends in other ways, what was the story?

Long version:

I'm a casual TwoSet fan who has loved their videos for a few years. Sadly only discovered them about a year before the first big retirement. But I was never very active in the fandom.

I've pretty much been a lurker online until a few years ago when I developed a chronic illness and I'm still pretty shy online. I don't have IG and I'm a bit private and shy, so I dread the idea of posting pics or videos of myself online.

I might be too old to make friends online anyway - I'm nearly 40. I dunno how many 40 year old Ling Ling wannabes there are hanging around online. I feel like I would do better making friends through a community orchestra or something but I'm housebound these days because of my health, so I'm trying to understand online life better, without getting too brainrotty.

Fwiw I can play two instruments a bit, one more than the other, or at least I would be able to if it weren't for my health. Hmm, complicated! :)
