Best places to run longer distances in Leicester?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently training for the London Marathon next April and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for good running routes around Leicester, particularly as I start increasing my distances.

I absolutely love running in other cities, but for some reason I’ve struggled to find routes I enjoy as much in Leicester. I think it’s partly because I prefer longer, continuous stretches where I can just switch off and run without constantly stopping at crossings or figuring out where to go.

I live near Evington and don’t mind travelling a little to get to a nice route, but ideally nothing too far out. I’d also prefer somewhere that isn’t too isolated, especially as I tend to run alone (Great Central Way gets really quiet).

I’m still relatively new to running, so I’m not necessarily looking for anything particularly challenging, just somewhere pleasant, reasonably safe and suitable for building up to longer distances.

Would really appreciate any suggestions, especially from people who’ve trained for half or full marathons around Leicester! :)

Edit: Also, a little shameless plug, but if anyone would like to support my fundraising for RNIB, please do let me know! I’d be incredibly grateful 🤭

Kids filming by Enderby Police Headquarters

• Upvotes

What's with the 3-4 young adults who seem to be filming cars going in and out of the Enderby Police Headquarters?

I drove past a few weeks ago and saw them at it, then I saw them hanging around there again today.

Bastard Rant Saturday II - the beast is back!

Welcome to Bastard Rant Saturday II

Bastard Rant Saturday is back due to popular demand (two people asked). This is a place for random acts of mostly harmless anger and frustration. Vent your spleen, get if off your chest, unload.

What to post :-

  • Anything that releases pent-up fury, despair, and irritation

But don't :-

  • Lose your temper too much, you still have to play reasonably nicely so please don't push the boat out too far
  • Overthink it
  • Forget to be human

This is an automated post, so nyerr.

It looks like we won't be getting an ice rink this year after the longstanding operator pulled out following a row with the council over a debt https://stuckinthemiddle.co.uk/leicester-christmas-ice-rink-axed-row-over-debt/

American Racism in Leicester in WW2

A very interesting video about Black American GI’s in Leicestershire, and the attempts of white American soldiers and commanders to segregate Leicester when they came in WW2. I’m honestly a bit surprised that I hadn’t heard about this sooner.

Here is the article where I found the video.

Help with a PCN from East Street Car Park

Hi there people! I recently visited Leicester, and I was looking for somewhere to park. I went into East Street Car Park next to the railway station to leave my car for a while, but there were no payment machines OR barriers when I drove in. I saw the NCP signange on the gantry as I went in so I tried to find it on their app but I had no luck (turns out they went bust and I didn't realise) so after 12 minutes I drove out. I don't remember any explicit signange to say I could pay online and I wasn't exactly there for long. This happened on 10/10/2026, and I've since received a PCN. Can anyone help with their experiences with Euro Car Parks, or even some up to date pictures of the signage there so I can fight this? I've never had one before and I am quite stressed about it.

(edit)
I do have a picture of the broken/missing payment machine, but nothing else.

Looking for new friends :)

Hello everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old guy from Turkey. I finished my master’s at the University of Leicester last year, and I’m looking to meet new people and make some good friends. Age doesn’t matter to me. I enjoy chatting with people from all walks of life and generations.

I’m open-minded and love a good chat about pretty much anything.

Here are some of my hobbies;

Walking outdoors, watching movies (a lot!), video games, exploring new places, watching football, geography, hanging out at pubs, cafés or anywhere else. I don't like partying or going night clubs. I'm a chill person.

I’d love to meet people both online and in person. If any of this sounds like you, feel free to send me a DM and we can see if we get along 😄

Safest areas to live

I’m looking to rent a flat but I’m not exactly sure what are the safest and most family friendly areas in Leicester that also have a bus stop close by and preferably some kind of shop as well.
I know that in general Leicester has become very unsafe from what I’ve heard. So I’d like your opinion on the safest areas as I’ll be living with my child so I want to make sure that I choose well. Safety precautions will be taken anyway regardless of where I’ll choose
