Suggestions/Advice Do you want to improve your Arabic listening? Start by learning where sounds are produced.
One thing I've noticed from teaching Arabic to non-native speakers is that pronunciation and listening are more connected than many learners realize.
When you learn to pronounce a letter, you should โnotโ just imitate the sound. You should understand where it's produced, where your tongue is, and how the airflow works.
Why?
Because when you become more aware of how a sound is produced, you may also become better at recognizing it when someone else says it.
ย
Example:
Letโs take English for an example and use a stereotype about an Arabic speakerโs โโaccentโโ when learning English.
Sentence: there are a lot of people --> there are a lot of โbeobleโ
As a native English speaker, you will catch the difference and correct it. How?
Itโs not โbโ itโs โpโ, and youโll move your mouth accordingly to show how the โpโ sound is accurately produced. Right? and Why? .... Because you โknowโ where it comes from.
Similarly for an Arabic learner:
The letters ุณ ย and ุต can be confusing, for example. ุณ matches the usual โsโ in English, but where does ุต comes from?
Believe it or not, the same place!
They share the same Place of Articulation, which is Alveolar, but differ in what we call the Manner of Articulation. ย ุณ is produced with slight closure of teeth, and relaxed tongue. While ุต moves the tongue backwards to touch the alveolar ridge behind the front teeth.
ย
I've put together the full Arabic-English IPA chart for my students. If you'd like a free copy, drop a comment or send me a DM!
In Conclusion:
Simply listening repeatedly isn't always enough. Learning to feel the differences between sounds can give you another way to train your ear.

Question/Discussion What's the best way to learn Arabic?
I tried to learn Arabic, but I gave up. I really like the language, and I'd love to learn it, but its grammar makes me feel overwhelmed. And I also tried to learn it without grammar, but it's way harder than I thought.

Resources Good Arabic-French dictionary? (with harakat and good examples)
I'm a French speaker and I search for a good Arabic-French dictionary (app or website). Most of the ones I know are Arabic-English, or just give a translation that is not always accurate.
What I would love to have for each word:
- Full harakat
- Transliteration and audio pronunciation
- The root and the verb form (I to X) + the present tense vowel for I verbs
- The plural and masdar
- Example sentences in context with a French translation (ideally saying if it's MSA or dialect)
- Search by the word as written (with ู / ุงู / ุจ attached) without knowing the root
Bonus if it lets you save words into lists and practice them with exercices.
Free or paid is fine if the quality is here. Thanks for your recommendations!
