Honestly, the most impressive part was the patience on his last Q. By not Q'ing he knew :

That his Q wouldn't kill before a lee auto attack.
That Lee still didn't have E up
That his (Lucian's) E will be up before Lee's / His jungler will be able to do something before Lee's skills come up.

Agreed, I kept expecting him to drop that last Q as a finisher, but he just kept kiting until the last possible moment for his E and gank what a perfect play

If you paused the game right there and put me in his seat I would have tried to Q-auto and immediately died to Lee Q on the spot and I would have been convinced there was no way to survive it, this was so well played.

The most impressive part was him not auto attacking immediately when it reset as he knew he has more MS than Lee because he bought boots early.

And because of that he spaced Lee perfectly to auto only once Lee couldn't auto him back.

really? I think him holding E after jayce died was far more impressive. I think 95% of players would be mashing E as soon it was up because they feel pressured by lee chasing them instead of calming waiting for lee to W auto then creating distance.

Nicely played, very patient especially at the end there waiting for E cooldown and Nocturne. Id have shotgunned my Q and died for sure. I wouldve also died 5 times before that.

That Jayce flash wasn't it though lol.

the cloth armor value in this fight was insane lol

And also the boots value. Which is why I hate people advising players to not buy boots early as laner.

I think the advice is not to buy t2 boots early as the upgrade isn't as worth it after the nerfs.

For top lane specifically though, it's meta to rush plated steelcaps and whomever finishes them first basically wins lane.

Edit: Also for midlaners obviously due to quest.

For mid it is also fine as T3 boots are also strong, especially Ionians.

A lot of midlaners also get nuts value out of t2 boots. Yas/yone with berserkers is one of their more valuable buys in general, though most other boots end up better if they can wait. Most mages and ap assassins have a major spike at sorcs. Most midlaners in general also like the movement speed more than top/adc because they're such a roam heavy role. It's probably why riot even decided mid gets t3 boots quest- because it is just so valuable on all mid champs specifically.

That's more contextual though

Sometimes you want to reach your spike asap and a -300 penalty is not ideal

For sure, there are always nuances to it as it is champ, game and matchup dependent.

That's why I dislike people saying you should never buy boots early.

2

u/Frodolas 4h ago

Not really. You have to be good enough to understand the context. If you're not, a good default is to never buy boots early. And if you're good enough to know the exceptions, then you know you're good enough.

So many underestimate early cloth armor, especially on squishy champs.

Armor in general. Lucian only went in because Jayce pressed R for no apparent reason(one would be E+Q to harras/last hit, instead he just stands there awkwardly) and went out of hammer form so he loses his tanky melee stats.

Combine that with cloth armor and you see why it wasn't close

zeka played it pretty much perfectly on his part but jayce definitely flubbed it

7

u/DragonHollowFire EzrealMain 10h ago

If the jayce did just 1 less mistake its a free win for the lee/jayce

3

u/sorendiz ..BUT THE FAITH REMAINS 8h ago

all he had to do was hit instead of trying to position for an E knockback toward lee

3

u/LeagueofLagginz 8h ago

All he had to do was walk toward Lee the moment Lee started to gank and he would've lived and killed Zeka lol.

that is another thing he could have done

How the f did he won against a Jayce with a boot and bow

u/Lazywhale97 HLE 14h ago

Lucian just does a lot of dmg early game in general due to his passive.

Add on Exhaust to essentially make sure Jayce can't do more dmg and then add on cloth as well to further mitigate return dmg.

4

u/_Whool 11h ago

mostly exhaust doing the work

3

u/PervertTentacle 7h ago

Exhaust, plus he took a really good timing to go in when Jayce pressed R and lost his tank stats

8

u/Disciple_OC 13h ago

This is why you pop your potions in a fight

12

u/rolekrs 13h ago

ranged top lane should be bannable

9

u/comfortreacher 14h ago

After rewatching this clip 3 times, i think what i like most is his positioning initially to not let jayce E him into lee. gives him time to get jayce into lethal. timing the auto on the expiring shield and then kiting with W movement spd was also chef's kiss

u/Caufield2021 9h ago

I would have played that exactly the same way of course

The difference in e dash length every time he dashes; when he first fights jayce he uses the shortest dash possible to trigger the passive and then later through the fight as he keeps trying to keep as much distance from both opps he uses longest dash
