Esports [Mind The Gap - 4 days ago] Vedius: “I’ll make the prediction, I’ll predict C9 to win KC, 3-0 C9 vs KC. 3-0.” (Spoilered because end of post discussion results of C9 vs KC) Spoiler

Transcript for those who can’t watch with audio:

Vedius: I’ll make the prediction, I’ll predict C9 to win KC. That’s my prediction.

Jatt: The first series?

Vedius: Yeah 3-0 C9 vs KC, 3-0. That’s my prediction, C9

Jatt: That’s not a real prediction, you don’t think that’s going to happen. Give me your real prediction.

Vedius: It is [his real prediction]. That’s what I’m doing.

Jatt: Give me your real prediction, give me your real prediction.

Vedius (Calmly): C9… 3-0.

Jatt: You just put every European player on your top 10 list. You didn’t even mention a C9 player, and neither did I.

Vedius: Correct.

Jatt: And you’re going to turn back and tell me C9 is going to win?

Vedius: Yeah!

Jatt (Exasperated): KC IS THE FAVOURITE BRO! KC is the favourite.

Vedius (Smug): Yeah. I know. They should be on paper.

Jatt: KC will win the first series 3-1 against C9, and C9 will have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Go through the lower bracket, and take you down in the future. They are not going to win the first series!

Vedius (Ragebaiting): Yeah nice prediction bro, nice shit prediction.

Vedius: I have said for months now… that if C9 and KC play… I am predicting C9 to win. And Mr History here… sitting on the other side of the screen…

Jatt (Protesting): Yeah, but you don’t believe it though! You’re just doing it for fun!

Vedius: Sir! North America has been sweeping EU all year, when is the last time we have even beaten a North American team?

Once again Lord Jatt prevails in his slightly less wrong prediction. Hail Jatt! #VediusWasMoreWrong

I knew it was over when Vedius predicted C9 to win - because #VediusIsAlwaysWrong

15

u/MyPlaylistsAreAMess 19h ago

But what Vedius has is free worlds tickets! Just dm him on twitter!

u/No_Canary_657 21h ago

Don't forget the sally ult ( I am now scared for HLE).

36

u/fm01 All art is quite pointless. - Bard 20h ago

(Jatt ulted them quite badly during the cast too, but we gotta maintain the agenda)

9

u/No_Canary_657 19h ago

On another note, people forget jatt's incorrect prediction because he doesnt easily get ragebaited so people invest that energy into ragebaiting vedius.

6

u/I_am_a_Failer 16h ago

He tried so hard to counter ult though, he's been saying "this is won for KC" in game 5 for the last like 15 mins straight

8

u/NyMiggas 16h ago

Yeah the whole broadcast was well played by Jatt he was reverse cursing C9 on repeat by doubting them every step of the way. He gave it all he had.

1

u/Anonymus4 14h ago

Do not worry, HLE will persevere (im terrified)

51

u/Soft-Pudding-3441 18h ago

C9 (especially Blaber versus Yike in games 1-4) looked a lot more coordinated, so I wouldn't be surprised if C9 won the rematch. That being said, if KC have any mental strength at all they should be able to leverage the fact that they still won while playing badly to put on a better performance.

10

u/Maximum_Platypus_272 17h ago

If KC didnt have any mental strength, they would have lost that series.

And if a rematch actually happens... The odds that KC, who have been starting slow EVERY SINGLE INTERNATIONAL they've attended, play as awfully as they did today, are really slim.

10

u/jchizzle137 15h ago

It’s Burger King HLE vs BLG, whoever wins the first match loses the rematch

u/kim-soo-hyun 21h ago

Vedius needs to predict against every EU team for anti jinx

15

u/Megazord552 xD 16h ago

Thats what he said he would do in every NA vs EU head to head

5

u/FalconLover05 19h ago

Jinx!? Did someone mention Jinx?

u/jakub_kon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 21h ago

He wasn’t far off though. It looked like a 3-0 if not for a giga throw in game 2

18

u/homegrownllama 16h ago

I think predicting a 3-0 (either way) for two teams that play this sloppy might be a bit bold.

2

u/MrPraedor 11h ago

To be fair when players are sloppy it can lead to tilt and then 3-0 is rather good prediction.

1

u/scrubnick628 10h ago

It's like two teams playing a game of catch.

-10

u/VenusAndMarsReprise 17h ago

He wasn’t far off though

he was. he missed the result by 3 decisive games

-4

u/dtootd12 14h ago

He wasn't far off in my AU fanfiction.

35

u/inbetweendreamstho 21h ago

He was spot on honestly. He just got the two series mixed up. The 3-0 is in a couple days

3

u/onespiker 4h ago

Ouch mabey the wrong year?

1

u/inbetweendreamstho 4h ago

Yep. Crow for me. C9 crashed out. Sad to watch after watching them yesterday.

1

u/onespiker 4h ago

Yea quite sad aswell I wanted the rematch. More eu vs na is good.

Do people really just don't count demacia cup and EWC when talking EU/NA results this year?

116

u/TheMemingLurker 21h ago

it was pretty interesting listening to the casters handle Demacia Cup on today's cast - Drakos directly mentioned Demacia (and maybe EWC) a couple of times, but Jatt and I think some of the other LCS analysts (like on the Dive) seem to have very little interest in them and hold their results with very little weight

I personally think Demacia Cup is a real neat concept and wish they would give it a bit more attention

31

u/AbysmalScepter 16h ago

A lot of people just have the mindset that if it's not directly hosted by Riot, it's not a "cannon" tournament. This isn't new, for example, no one ever counts IEM World Championship 2015 as an international event NA has won.

3

u/jedine67 12h ago

I mean the playing conditions for half the teams in EWC are pretty shoddy. A good portion of the players don't really enjoy playing it. Lyon barely even tried to qualify lmao.

7

u/Omnilatent 12h ago

There are four huge differences for me to take Demacia cup seriously compared to EWC

  • format and teams are great in comparison. I don't need another tournament DIRECTLY AFTER MSI with a worse format.

  • having middle of the packs teams is both entertaining and more serious then what the fuck the idea behind EWC teams is

  • schedule is good and doesn't take away from MSI nor regular season. It also gives middle of the pack players another chance to get noticed and possibly re-evaluated.

  • Saudi Arabia money ewwe

Even if you don't care about the last reason, the first three should be enough to AT LEAST strongly dislike EWC and enjoy Demacia cup and tier 2 worlds (WSCI or whatever it was called)

5

u/beastrace 14h ago

TSM has an international event title and nobody can take that away from us!

18

u/Casseerole 18h ago

I think it's also that Demacia Cup is on at a pretty bad time for NA, so none of the NA analysts have actually watched any of it, just checked results. I'd love to see more events like it in the future as well.

6

u/APKID716 15h ago

I understand both sides when it comes to the Demacia Cup because I personally think it has the potential to really show regions’ strengths as a whole. We only ever see top 2-4 of any region. It’s really interesting to see if the LPL’s strength continues to its lower level teams comparatively to EU for example. It really is a cool tournament in my opinion.

On the other hand, it’s sort of weird because the teams playing have already been eliminated from worlds, there’s no real stakes other than bragging rights I guess, and the players don’t really have any incentive to tryhard like they would at world. There isn’t the prestige like at a tournament like MSI for example. Idk, it’s possible we don’t actually see the teams play their best is all.

Overall I really like the Demacia Cup far more than EWC

1

u/Business-Natural6464 7h ago

If you think about it Demacia Cup is the place to try hard because you are in a middle of a pack team, if you show them you could win this tournament you have what it takes to go to worlds next year but if you underperformed here you are definitely canned.

The stakes are really high, it's whether you have a job next year or not, the timing is good too, it's before Nov when contracts expire.

2

u/Time_Pineapple_9314 18h ago

All competitions matter its all internationals you don't need to like the event to know that the casters opinions don't mean shit when the results matter to korea and china that has a vastly bigger player base then Na.

1

u/onespiker 17h ago

Jatt is quite busy with moving aswell as the time and how bad it went for na for most of the tournament.

74

u/DefNotAnAlter 21h ago

Doesn't count because EU won the match ups, would have 100% counted if NA won the match up

14

u/inbetweendreamstho 20h ago

Think it's just more about who gets out of playins.. jatt picked KC to win first matchup lose second... Bet he's right

-7

u/Mundane-Dirt-4077 19h ago

This. They love invalidating whatever EU wins.

9

u/Level_Record6475 18h ago

I mean for third party events this isn't really new, happened a decade ago with IEMs. TSM fans were insufferable for an entire year cause they beat CJ Entus in a Bo1 and swept a 4-10 LPL team.

0

u/Flesroy 18h ago

but it's just weird. they did a whole segment about going over c9 and kc's years, but then didn't mention that kc actually beat two top eastern teams and came second at an international.

that just makes the segment completely worthless.

7

u/Top-Mastodon5777 17h ago

I think they actively try and avoid talking about EWC due to the controversies surrounding it.

4

u/SupremeBall27 16h ago

Because the tournament was worthless. When we actually see the best of the time period compete with an ample amount of time to prepare, people will actually care. There are way too many shitter teams and players that don’t care (you can see so many of them laugh as they’re losing on the player cams) to take it seriously.

-1

u/Flesroy 16h ago

there is no reason to believe the kc-al series was not taken seriously.

2

u/SupremeBall27 16h ago

What is the obsession with AL? Why are so many Europeans obsessed with this quarterfinals matchup against a team that wasn’t good enough to make MSI at the time?

0

u/Flesroy 16h ago

they were still the fourth seed at the time. non g2 western teams don't typically beat any lpl teams even fourth seed.

and it's not an obsession to point out a highly relevant data point that is typically ignored...

1

u/SupremeBall27 15h ago

I’m asking because there was a clearly stronger team that KC also beat in a manner that more closely replicates what we would see at Worlds in a potential rematch. (KC would never sweep AL in a Worlds rematch. They could pull off some bullshit to beat T1 while dropping some games on a good day)

u/BonzBonzOnlyBonz 9h ago

If EWC counts, then IEM Katowice 2015 counts which means NA has an international title. The first Western one since the era of Koreans.

-15

u/DiqqRay 19h ago

Insecure EU fans as usual. It does count, just less compared to MSI/Worlds

6

u/Relevant-Physics432 17h ago

OK then why not mention it in the yearly results segment

10

u/Ysesper 19h ago

What can I say, win against LPL or LCK first

0

u/Nyranth 19h ago

You’re delusional if you think it’s legit KC goes from being knocked out by TL in play ins to them being second place in a tournament. All the best teams at msi got knocked out earlier than expected at ewc. That’s why no one counts those games.

13

u/durfiks 19h ago

AL wasnt on msi tho? and they still got stomped same goes for sentinels?

4

u/SupremeBall27 16h ago

I love that the European counter to "shitter teams at a shitter tourney where the result is mostly based on who got the most prep time” is to bring up a shitter team that wasn’t good enough to go to MSI LOL

-2

u/durfiks 16h ago

Ur "strongest worlds lineup ever sent by LCS" team got destroyed by jetlagged choking KC, better?

2

u/SupremeBall27 15h ago

Do you speak English? Strongest because the other 2 both clapped this same actual choking team that KC struggled with, in 4 light games. Cloud9 would take MKOI to 5 as well if not beat them.

We have two teams good enough to 3-0 your strongest. You have 2 teams that could lose to our weakest. That’s the difference.

4

u/Level_Record6475 18h ago

I mean that SEN roster finished 6th in an 8 team league they weren't winning shit. Beating AL is honestly the most impressive result for them but also gives me shades of TSM beating CJ Entus at IEM 2015. Exciting, but when worlds rolled around that ended up not mattering at all.

2

u/Floowil 17h ago

They won against AL, which wasn't at MSI and then proceeded to win LPL.

3

u/Nyranth 17h ago

You’re right AL wasn’t at msi as in they weren’t a top team at the time. Congrats?

-2

u/Level_Record6475 18h ago

Always been the case. Remember IEM almost 10 years ago? TSM fans spent the whole year saying they had the clutch instincts unlocked because they had an international trophy and no one else gave a shit. And when worlds came around it was clear those results at IEM indicated nothing.

3

u/Top-Mastodon5777 17h ago

Doesn't TSM hold NA's only international trophy? Or is there something in the early days I am missing?

2

u/EmphasisExpensive864 17h ago

Their iem win is the last na international trophy but it wasn't their only one. Clg and c9 both won an item before tsm won the iem world championship.

3

u/WanAjin 17h ago

When you say no one else gave a shit, do you just mean you or what? You can go back and watch people's reactions to TSM winning, people weren't disregarding it like you seemingly remember it.

2

u/Level_Record6475 13h ago

I mean the only people coming out of the woodwork to defend it are TSM flairs, and the same was true back then. Right after, sure people gave them some cred. Brining it up for worlds hype? Yeah basically anyone who wasn't a TSM fan clowned them.

0

u/BaneOfAlduin 16h ago

As someone that has been around since Season 3, the TSM IEM win started getting thrown away by EU fans around 2017 when that roster didn’t get out of groups. Then around the 2019 G2 roster, EU as a whole started viscerally downplaying and punching down on NA where every thing they did well was luck or the other team playing bad and everything they did bad was them playing to their “wildcard level”

I fucking hated being in this sub during internationals in the like 2020-2023 era because it was crazy to see just how much revisionism EU fans would use to deride NA despite them throughout the history of the game, being pretty damn even in strength. Yes, some years EU was better, and others NA was better, but as a whole, they basically maintain 3-4 with an iron grip while the occasional PCS/LMS singular team slips above

2

u/APKID716 15h ago

I really hated the snarky attitude EU had towards NA but thankfully it’s mellowed out lately

1

u/BaneOfAlduin 15h ago

I lowkey think it hasn’t. They just are depressed because they keep directly losing to NA in series for the past couple of years. You still see them doing everything to dismiss NA while cherry picking things to make EU look competitive/better.

It’s only not been miserable the past couple of years for ME because I can watch EU shit talk and then lose to NA constantly, and my greatest joy at internationals is watching EU fans lose BECAUSE of the 2019-2023 era. Shit man, I was excited for Misfits and G2/Fnc runs, now I want them to actively lose because of the community

1

u/Jonspen 15h ago

I have a doublelift shirt in a drawer somewhere and used to watch all LCS games, and root for any western team v the east. I'd like to support TL this worlds because I watched the Caedrel interview and Spawn seems like a really likeable dude. But I haven't watched an LCS game for years and hatewatch your teams at international for the same reasons. Both fanbases are just as bad, it is what it is.

1

u/Worthlec 8h ago

As someone who's been around since 2010 (predates season 1); NA was never on par with EU historically. Comparing quarter, semi and final appearances is night and day between the regions. NA didn't advance out of groups until 2014. It wasn't until C9 came to the scene in 2016 that they consistently advanced out of groups.

Contrary to your belief reddit was heavily NA-biased at the time. EU was viewed as the lesser region (despite the results proving otherwise), and was mocked for things like:

  • Playing ADCs with a support botlane. Proper teams played with ADCs mid.
  • Solo-laners playing with teleport. This was a clear sign that the region was weak, since their laners were not able to abuse their ignite-advantage in lane.
  • Kassadin. A real team would never let you get away with drafting Kassadin.

Week 1 during worlds was always obnoxious as NA would start strong, mocking EU in the process. Until EU would turn things around in week 2 and return the favor twofold. How do you think the infamous EU worlds sheet was made in the first place?

0

u/BaneOfAlduin 7h ago

Congrats. You are the exact type of LEC fan that makes me hate your region and wish for their failure.

You wholeheartedly believe that there was no difference between the s3-s8 brotherhood teasing that BOTH regions gave the other constantly, and the more modern act of LEC fans just completely dismissing everything about NA as just being grossly inferior their entire existence.

Congrats on being a walking example to prove my point, I greatly appreciate it and hope I don’t see you more

2

u/N0Ability 18h ago edited 17h ago

Not even worlds ,i remember them hyping TSM as the 2nd or even favourite for MSI 2015 with bjergsen being the second coming of faker and then they went 1-5 and got stomped nearly every game

-1

u/DefNotAnAlter 18h ago

No I wasn't in the scene 10 years ago so I have no context on that. I am aware that NA fans were definitely going to run with it if Fly beat Navi

0

u/Weird_Apartment_6608 Please fire Dardo 17h ago

Saying IEM Katowice was as hard or harder doesn't make sense. There's a big difference between having teams in the middle of Spring Split versus after two splits and two internationals. As I said in another comment, the only team that appeared at MSI 2015 was TSM, who went 1-4 and bombed out. If IEM Katowice had been after that MSI, you would've had 2015 SKT, 2015 EDG (who won MSI), and 2015 FNC (who was the strongest western team that year), along with other top teams playing more Bo series.

Who knows, maybe TSM would've won that too, but that tournament would've been way harder

-7

u/mrporter2 19h ago

That’s like the fans that claim esl tournaments for pro lol record.

11

u/EmphasisExpensive864 19h ago

In early league they should 100% count.

-3

u/mrporter2 18h ago

They were invitation not earned that’s not beating the best it’s beating the most popular.

6

u/EmphasisExpensive864 18h ago

They mostly had open qualifiers too.

2

u/BaneOfAlduin 16h ago

Ah yes. IEM was bad because it was an invitational, nothing like EWC that was an invitational. Nothing at all.

0

u/trying2hide 18h ago

Take a guess why they were most popular.

-3

u/mrporter2 18h ago

Streaming is why like I get it but tsm even turned down invites because they made more just streaming in the weekend. Hell if you’re a fan from early enough you know about the scandal with tsm streaming through a tournament that had its own stream. Early league had some great esl tournaments bust also had ones where only one team was a top team from their region.

1

u/trying2hide 18h ago

And their streams were so popular because they were good at tournaments they qualified for. Hell if you're a fan from early enough you would remember the online qualifiers.

It's changed from the invitations weren't earned to actually the best teams were the ones invited, some of them just didn't turn up for several reasons?

0

u/mrporter2 18h ago

If the tops team don’t come then it’s not a tournament for the best or to be proud of. Thier streams were popular because they were entertaining and Reggie understood how to build a brand while everyone else sat back. Jack and him really helped shape lcs

2

u/trying2hide 18h ago

They got to build the brand because they were successful.

They used to farm Go4Lols which is all we had to watch, won NA worlds qualifier, Finished 3rd in Season 1 Worlds, second at the first ESL event, 2nd at the first IEM event, top 3 first MLG, won the next MLG etc etc.

And even to be very specific about this whole thread. The IEM that TSM/NA won, TSM literally qualified for, alongside the top of EU, the top 2 of LCK, and 4 previous IEM winners on the year.

0

u/EmphasisExpensive864 17h ago

Mostly visa and money reasons. Most esl tournaments were in the west so it was hard for multiple eastern orgs to come.

6

u/Jealous-Chicken-9186 19h ago

Why wouldnt they? Lol they were legit

3

u/Ironmaiden1207 12h ago

Yuh because ewc was tournament fatigue (like 2 days after MSI) and Demacia Cup are not top teams.

4

u/Curious_Candidate675 18h ago

I get EWC but why would you not want to count Demacia cup?

We all wanted this format and there was no subs on the EU vs NA matchups.

6

u/Naerlyn 17h ago

I get EWC but why would you not want to count Demacia cup?

Because it's not the top teams. Generally, when people say that one region is better than the other, it's referring to their top teams.

If you count Demacia Cup, then you're also counting WSCI, it'd make little sense to fabricate an argument for one but not the other.

8

u/Curious_Candidate675 17h ago

I don't think there is any evidence that people generally mean the top teams when talking about regional strength. LCK fans have been cleaning for ages that their 5-6 seats could mob the floor with top EU and NA teams.

The reason I personally don't rate the EWC as highly is because it is a sports washing event and I don't see any prestige in winning it.

As an EU fan I do not care at all about EWC even if EU teams should ever win one.

But I acknowledge that is purely personal.

-1

u/Naerlyn 17h ago

The reason I personally don't rate the EWC as highly is because it is a sports washing event and I don't see any prestige in winning it.

As an EU fan I do not care at all about EWC even if EU teams should ever win one.

I didn't talk about the EWC, I talked about the WSCI. With the same organizer as the Demacia Cup, this is also an international tournament, just among teams of a lower level still.

3

u/polterere 15h ago

WSCI is not LEC teams, not LCS teams? Saying EU/NA is a simplification, people mean tier 1. Also I don't recall any EU/NA match there anyway?

2

u/keeeeener 14h ago

Because SR was never going to be able to do much. They’re just not very good.

And while FQ is decent, they have 3 rookies that it was their first international AND it’s not like Quad/Massu are that experienced either.

NA had 3.5 teams this year.

4

u/Mundane-Dirt-4077 20h ago

It does count. Dont be gas lit

1

u/Significant-Damage14 15h ago

You can or can't take the tournaments into account considering they aren't part of the official Riot circuit and are hosted by other parties.

You can also take into consideration the format and how it's structured. I think Demacia cup is still more legit because teams had at least more time to practice for it and it lasts for 2 week, while EWC is just after MSI and lasts for a couple of days.

1

u/Relevant-Physics432 17h ago

What they count or not is completely random there's no proper criteria. In the broadcast when talking about the year's results for both teams they counted the Americas cup for c9 but not ewc for kc

-13

u/Even_Cardiologist810 20h ago

Ewc is a stupid tournament both in concept and organisation. There's a reason the final was between 2 bad teams

15

u/Mimidou3 20h ago

Ah yes the 2 bad team that won vs *check note* future LPL 1st seed and LCK 1st seed that didn't attend to MSI, hmmm ok interesting

0

u/SupremeBall27 16h ago

"I beat up Mike Tyson when he was 5. I am good enough to beat Mike Tyson and it was a real win.” Do you see how stupid that sounds? Beating teams that are good now when they’re at their worst months ago means nothing.

4

u/Reasonable_Ad_7333 16h ago

Why were they at their worst

2

u/Mimidou3 15h ago

because they played EU and not NA

1

u/Mimidou3 15h ago

there is literally 1 month between the time they were at "their worst" and the time they are 1st seed

1

u/Even_Cardiologist810 15h ago

Yeah and over 6 more hour of sleep without jet lag

4

u/SpiritedSalad4731 20h ago

What’s stupid about it

1

u/Level_Record6475 18h ago

Bo1 groups, Bo3 playoff matches, questionable qualification process, scheduled immediately after another event brining in jet lagged teams.

People overly focus on who owns the TO and ignore that the event format is something straight out of 2012.

1

u/SpiritedSalad4731 18h ago

Similarly, I find the world’s format to be quite shit. At least it’s an improvement to the previous worlds format

1

u/Level_Record6475 13h ago

I personally can't take anything with Bo3 playoff seriously. They need to fix swiss badly but the playoffs are fine given how flawed double elim is without a reset.

-5

u/2020isgreat TheShy 21h ago

No one cares about EWC it is what it is. If people don't even give DK that much credit for winning people sure as hell won't care about anything else.

-15

u/vxtmh 21h ago

of course not

demacia cup is the bad teams, and we mostly all agreed not to give any thought to the saudi propaganda tournament

22

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 21h ago

Bro not even on the tiny part of the community on reddit, the home all things virtue signaling, did “we all” agree to not give any thought to EWC

1

u/Level_Record6475 18h ago

The phrasing is cringey but sentiment has always been this event is by far the least important international, not because of the saudi ties but because the format is atrocious. Bo1 groups? Bo3 playoffs? Online qualifiers? Fresh out of 2012.

Reminds me of IEM back in the day when TSM fans thought beating Flash Wolves in a Bo3 and winning a Bo5 versus an LPL team that went 4-10 meant they were winning worlds.

1

u/Weird_Apartment_6608 Please fire Dardo 17h ago

Ah yes, because beating Flash Wolves in a BO3 is the same as beating T1 in a BO3

1

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 15h ago

I agree it's less important than the others, but it doesn't mean it has 0 importance.

-10

u/vxtmh 21h ago

not all, but mostly all

though maybe that changed after caedrel decided to watch it

12

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 21h ago

It had massive viewership threads and we all got very excited for KC and very disappointed when they fumbled finals

I mean I’m sure many people who did watch and did cheer/boo would now claim to have “not given it any thought” to reassert their virtue, but they’ll be back next year…

The Saudi investment fund tournament exists, it will keep exisiting, just like my supermarket will keep being owned by Qatar investment fund.

Gulf monarchy money is literally everywhere, if you’re gonna be consistent you have to virtue signal against half the businesses in your life probably.

There's a supermarket chain owned by Qatar investment fund ?

2

Not like completely but often large chunks. Sainsburys UK's largest single shareholder is Qatar Investment Fund

EWC is not a real tournament, and do you really care which 5th place team is better than the other 5th place teams?

12

u/Majestic_Theme_442 21h ago

EU lower seeds loses :"EU is a one team region !" EU lower seeds win : "it doesn't matter"

15

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 21h ago

Damn we can just declare what is and isn't real based on what we think should be the case?

My rent isn’t real!!

6

u/Xc_runner_xd_player 20h ago

The Saudi propaganda tournament directly after MSI where most teams just want to go home is not a real tournament sorry.

4

u/SpiritedSalad4731 20h ago

I watched it live. How can it not be real?

-2

u/Xc_runner_xd_player 20h ago

Have you ever heard of the WWE

6

u/SpiritedSalad4731 20h ago

Yeah, it’s scripted. Unless you’re suggesting EWC is scripted?

-2

u/Xc_runner_xd_player 20h ago

I thought you would recognize the obvious joke.

I say the tournament is not real because it’s not recognized within the riot game circuit. It has 0 impact on the rest of the pro league scene, where as first stand and MSI have a direct impact on eventually qualifying for worlds.

It also happens immediately after MSI, meaning teams that were at MSI and lasted longer (the best teams) are forced to fly there extremely jet lagged and get little to no time to scrim time.

Do you follow the NBA? It’s similar to the silly mid season tournament they introduced. It just doesn’t really mean much to the players in the same way MSI and Worlds do.

So you have this weird, meaningless tournament directly after the actually important international tournament, that uses a wack playoff format and is played completely separately from the rest of the riot schedule.

It’s real in that it happens, but the results don’t hold much weight with anyone. Like are we really putting stock into an international tournament in which DK (lul) and KC, who were just 6-0d at MSI, make the finals? A tournament where many of the best players don’t seem to be trying very hard.

4

u/Zamoniru give us back old asol 19h ago

First Stand Impact on qualifying for worlds is essentially 0 too.

2

u/Xc_runner_xd_player 14h ago

And I would argue first stand results are not very meaningful, but at least it directly leads to MSI qualification

4

u/SpiritedSalad4731 19h ago

No tournament is meaningless in the league circuit when we are starved for international competition.

Weighted lower, sure? Meaningless, no.

2

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 15h ago

100%

EWC is less important (as in it can indicate how good teams are or not) than the three official events due to format and proximity to MSI but its importance has nothing with how little you in particular like who is sponsoring it. All teams attend and they have a massive prize pool.

5

u/Mimidou3 20h ago

every tournament where my team does worst doesn't count type shit.

"But why riot doesn't do more international event" honk honk

1

u/RoamingBicycle 14h ago

I think Demacia Cup is fun, i don't think it matters in the grand scheme of things.

Half these teams probably already told their players they're off the roster at the end of the year.

As for EWC, it exists. I don't care.

I'm an EU fan btw.

1

u/Mimidou3 14h ago

"Half these teams probably already told their players they're off the roster at the end of the year."

Shocking news but you know it's the exact same for world? There is dozen of player that know they will get replaced before playing any game at world

1

u/RoamingBicycle 14h ago

Top teams know they'll have to play Worlds, and the players do absolutely care about the prestige of doing well, regardless of their contract status.

Do you really believe the players are putting the same effort in Demacia Cup as they do in Worlds?

Or that the scale of players who got canned before the tournament is even close to top teams at Worlds?

JDG straight up canned HongQ and Junjia before Demacia Cup from what we know. I don't think that's ever happened at Worlds.

1

u/Mimidou3 14h ago

"JDG straight up canned HongQ and Junjia before Demacia Cup from what we know. I don't think that's ever happened at Worlds."

pretty sure it's not possible at world unless you have a real reason to do that

This edition of demacia cup was phreak basement but it could become big in the future, exactly like europa cup in football

1

u/RoamingBicycle 14h ago

Exactly, this is Phreak's basement. It's Fnatic being World Champions. It doesn't matter until it becomes actually a legit tournament people, teams and players care about.

1

u/The_walking_Kled 20h ago

yeah i mean its fun so why not

0

u/Faalcon1000 21h ago

Come on, are you really going to defend NA and ignore the oil championships at the same time ?

1

u/Jakocolo32 20h ago

ewc hasn't count every other year too why would it start now? you don't see geng/t1 fans saying it counts as an international title.

1

u/Naerlyn 17h ago

The tournament has gained recognition this year, partly thanks to not being in SA. On the wiki, the 2026 World Championship cycle includes EWC, which it didn't in the previous years.

6

u/BaneOfAlduin 16h ago

Bro. Gamepedia is literally not related to Riot in any way shape or form.

EWC would have more relevance if RIOT used it in their aws elo system, and I’m hesitant to say they will likely not.

0

u/Flesroy 18h ago

well for one the tournament improved significantly having no more bo1 elimination matches and 3 extra eastern teams.

but more importantly, winning the tournament as geng/t1 means very little, because they don't have to prove they are a top team/can win against top teams. kc beating al means quite a bit because a non g2 western team beating a top eastern team is very rare.

-6

u/Bonfiresmoke66 20h ago

No, ofc not??

2

u/Alunkkar 14h ago

killcraft1337 might be Vedius' biggest opp

6

u/Dakoolestkat123 Win worlds nothing else matters 19h ago

Honestly Vedius was valid for this prediction. Obviously the agenda mandates that I point out that he was wrong, but after MSI predicting EU to win vs NA felt like predicting T1 to do bad at worlds because they had a rough summer split

1

u/Appropriate_Donut590 3h ago

Still don’t understand why anyone gives NA the benefit of any doubt. I don’t even mean cause they’re fans, I just don’t get how any intelligent human thinks teams like C9 ESPECIALLY would ever do well internationally
