He’s doing this in exchange for election help, again.

1.3k

u/_Phil_McCracken_ 3h ago

Everything Trump does makes sense once you realize he is a Russian asset.

394

u/Firm-Advertising5396 2h ago

That's why they limited starlink for Ukraine, the bots

155

u/Jazzlike_Plastic7088 2h ago

And why Trump's 'close calls' are always convenient for him...

161

u/HyetalNight 2h ago

And is being blackmailed. He’s desperate and cornered.

29

u/CelestialFury 2h ago

With what? Any videos or pictures can just be called "AI made" now. Fox News and the rest of the right-wing media ecosystem will defend him at all costs.

Nah, he's doing this because he's a power hungry fuck.

19

u/Intelligent-Cod-3117 1h ago

Thus the push for AI. We haven’t got there yet but it will be soon where nothing is provable as real.

No, he's not. You cannot blackmail someone who's totally shameless, like him.

Russians (especially putin) clearly scare him, but it's not with blackmail. It's something else. I'm not sure if I want to know what it could be.

29

u/SirCrazyCat 2h ago

Trump is motivated by the money the Russians have paid him and tease will pay him in the future AND by whatever compromising things they have on him. Russians like the carrot and the stick.

They could reveal that Trump has been propped up entirely by dirty Russian money and without that corruption he would be dead broke. To Trump his wealth is the cornerstone of his personality, and threats to his internal story of being a successful businessman are one of the things he just cannot tolerate. It would be devastating to his ego to be revealed as a fraud and therefore Russia will always hold power over him. And the pee pee tapes.

9

u/TheDal 1h ago

Depends if he's gay and they have good evidence.

Trump is an odd sort of shameless. He doesn’t care if we all know he’s a lazy disgusting lying sack of shit, but he VERY MUCH wants fear and respect.

If a video existed that would make MAGA laugh at him, he would burn down the world before letting it see the light of day.

Money.

It’s the only thing that realistically would make an impact. He’s shameless and immune to Justice so long as he has enough money, being wealthy is also a core part of his public identity.

It’s the only thing he truly cares about. He’s either got all his money tied up in Russian assets and investments, or he’s being promised a shitload more

3

He's not an asset because he can't be controlled. Trump is a malignant narcissists who will do whatever he wants and needs to do.

This continuing idea is a problem not just because it's obviously counterfactual but because it obscures the actual mechanisms of why he does things. And what he is.

Ukraine hitting Yandex data centers is limiting Russia bot army, which would limit their social media attacks. Which would limit how much disinformation they can spread now online. And Ukraine has said they will continue hitting the data centers.

A former conservative friend of mine (cut ties bc of politics) used to tell me he hoped that Putin and trump would save us from NATO - he viewed NATO as a pre-WWI style entanglement device and thought letting Putin weaken it would save the U.S. He was adamant the Cold War era was over and nothing in today’s world indicated Russia was an enemy, and that the real enemy are the democrats here. We are obviously no longer friends. Unfortunately his father is a federal judge and shares his views.

Since when can the President pause Congressional Legislation unilaterally?

395

u/FifaBribes 3h ago

It was a clause added to the bill. This was planned

161

u/Gigofifo 3h ago

Exactly the reason some Dems voted against it.

94

u/EnfantTerrible68 3h ago

WTF?

188

u/FifaBribes 3h ago edited 3h ago

Section 115(a), titled “Waiver,” of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 (H.R. 5334), signed into law September 18, 2026.
The exact language states:
“The President may, subject to subsection (b), waive the application of any sanctions provision with respect to a foreign person, any restriction with respect to a person, or any duty under this title.”

All he has to do is state why it is in the interest
Of the United States. The waiver does not have to be approved by congress.

58

u/Slamtilt_Windmills 3h ago

69

u/PopBulky7023 3h ago

Congress loves passing bills with gaping loopholes that say "This is a thing, unless the president says be doesn't like it."

40

u/Bee_9965 3h ago

So basically, it means nothing. Thanks Lindsey for passing a bill that the President can override on a whim.

11

u/NovarKalar 2h ago

I mean, this seems like a clear violation of the nondelegation doctrine. I doubt anyone has standing to sue over it... but theoretically it's probably an unconstitutional waiver power.

Anything that can be done with a slim majority can be undone with a slim majority.

52

u/SanityPlanet 2h ago

Absolutely incorrect.

Granting the president power requires a slim majority, since the president will sign the bill.

Taking power away from the president requires a veto-proof majority of 2/3, since the president will veto the bill.

→ More replies (2)

22

u/HippyDM 3h ago

Wouldn't the president be able to veto anything that changes that law?

10

u/Eeeegah 2h ago

It may not be a slim majority. Many republicans at least go on the news and say they are outraged by this. Whether that will result in any of them voting to stop it is another question.

4

u/ezekiel920 3h ago

I don't think such a clause is actually valid though. Congress simply delegating power to the President with no factual requirements beyond it being "in the national interests of the United States" seems like a pretty clear violation of the nondelegation doctrine. I have no idea who would have standing to sue over this though...

What exactly would be the proper legal recourse if Congress passed a law saying that any and all other laws can be selectively waived by a Presidential determination that it's in the national interests of the United States?

6

u/Ok_Understanding1986 2h ago

His consistent strongman affinity for Kim Jong Un and Duarte make me think it’s less an asset thing (though the signs are there, tbh), and more a naturally destructive narcissist/sociopath asshole genuine idiot that confuses control with respect, and craves control above all else. So he admires authoritarians.

Or maybe he’s just an asshole who actually peed on a pro in Moscow and desperately wants his name on a building there. That’d track, too

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Apprehensive-Tea1408 1h ago

When he was in serious financial strife in the 1980s and the American banks wouldn’t loan to him anymore, Russian banks and oligarchs came to his aid, as Russia has a history of grooming western businessmen as they can become valuable assets later on. When they come visiting to Russia, as Trump did in 1987 when lured with a prospect of a Moscow Trump tower, they also employ Kompromat, loading their hotel rooms with cameras and bugs and providing all the underaged prostitutes they could want. No doubt they also have a copy of the Epstein files. And Putin likes to remind him now and then, hence the flip-flopping.
When he got back from his Moscow trip in 1987, the first thing he did was take out full-page ads in the newspapers attacking NATO. A strange thing to do for a US playboy businessman.

She’s also a traitor to her brother’s memory, sullied as it is by his adulation towards Trump: At least he was still in Ukraine’s corner, while Darline is undoubtedly getting rich selling out anything and everything Trump tells her to.

Like the Lindsay Graham sanctions he just finished signing?

39

u/TheGameIsFizzbin 3h ago

Yes, the bill had this in it that he could suspends sanctions if he wanted to. That's how stupid the senate is.

16

u/Gigofifo 3h ago

Exactly the reason some Dems voted against it.

7

u/SpankyJobouti 2h ago

that wasnt stupidity, its by design.

32

u/TuTenkahman 2h ago

What a traitorous piece of shit

25

u/JustlookingfromSoCal 3h ago

That seems unconstitutionalish--just making an executive order stripping the legislature of a core function.

Graham would have reveled in being personally embarrassed by Trump like this if he was still alive

10

u/ThePromptWasYourName 2h ago

I don't like when people make jokes about Graham for being gay.

I do like jokes about him having a humiliation kink though. Carry on!

4

u/gonzarro 2h ago

Humiliation kink? The way Graham's funeral went, imagine how messy the inside of that coffin was.

23

u/respectablepitch 1h ago

WTF. Why are we letting him do this?

12

u/what-year-isit 1h ago

Because maggots keep voting for republicans who won’t impeach

12

u/apple_kicks 1h ago

America needs to learn from French school children and start protesting and shutting down cities to pressure their politicians into action instead of hoping they will

I'm guessing russia has promised to disrupt the elections ... but only in Dem voting districts.

10

u/m3rcapto 1h ago

Russia + Elon, he will be supervising that they do it exactly the same as he did last time, the Russians just run the propaganda machine.

17

u/Winter_Whole2080 2h ago

Of course, trump wants to get the russian bots going. Fucking traitor

17

u/0bfuscatory 2h ago

The primary responsibility of the President is to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed”.

14

u/bullevard 2h ago

Trump has always had trouble with the word "faithful."

6

u/Chrahhh 1h ago

Cmon bro, it’s Trump.

Since day one this dude has only been looking out for himself and his prodigal quatro of fartknockers. And I bet he’d sell them out if it really came to it.

How people are still surprised by his behavior confuses me. He’s clearly a bad person lol this is so on brand.

Friday night, seems about treason.

Tell me you're trading for election interference without telling me you're trading for election interference

26

u/flat5 2h ago

Hey, maybe "Russia, Russia, Russia" was because he's actually a traitor to Russia.

10

u/DeltaFoxtrot144 3h ago

Oh those pee tapes are being dangled

10

u/BalanceOrganic7735 2h ago

It appears that Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy spoke the truth, and the newsmedia of the USA failed in their duty. Republicans also betrayed their duty to the United States of America.

11

u/ChecksAndBalanz 3h ago

Fucking sellout

9

u/AtreiyaN7 1h ago

There goes the Russian asset acting like a Russian asset again—shocker.

28

u/gerblnutz 3h ago

Laws signed by the president cannot be rescinded by EO. Simple as that. Game over. Let's hear Roberts sell this one.

8

u/Rhiven 2h ago

Copying this from someone else's reply.

All he has to do is state why it is in the interest of the United States. The waiver does not have to be approved by congress.

Edit: What I'm not sure about is if the "of any sanctions provision" only applies to the sanctions that are part of this law or if it applies to previously passed sanctions as well.

9

u/gerblnutz 2h ago

So we are writing in king powers over laws passed by congress now so they can precapitulate to the unitary executive? Wonderful.

5

u/Rhiven 2h ago

Unfortunately I don't expect much better from the GOP these days. It's just unfortunate that so many democrats voted to pass the bill with that section in it.

6

u/ThaiTum 1h ago

GOP Congress is complicit. They need to be voted out.

3

u/Solomontheidiot 2h ago

Yeah, I don't get why everyone is acting shocked. The main criticism of the bill was that it gave trump the power to enact tarrifs on our allies without actually forcing him to sanction Russia

11

u/AxiomaticSuppository 2h ago

Let's hear Roberts sell this one.

Is it Kompromat or do they honestly idolize Russia?

8

Why not both?

They want to be kleptocrats like Putin, and also want to keep their secrets from coming to light.

NO COLLUSION!  NO PUPPET! YOU’RE THE PUPPET!

6

u/atreeismissing 1h ago

Trump can't do that, legally, but unfortunately it's up to a GOP controlled Congress to stop him.

The Republican Six would surely cite this precedent to excuse it ("Well he did it before!"):

President Trump Puts 'America First' On Hold To Save Chinese Jobs https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/14/610891747/president-trump-puts-america-first-on-hold-to-save-chinese-jobs

https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/995680316458262533

President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!

That was also a slap in the face to Congress, which had passed a "death sentence" on ZTE for repeatedly violating sanctions to sell to Iran and North Korea. This was probably purely venal on its part, because it came on the heels of this:

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/5/15/17355202/trump-zte-indonesia-lido-city

Trump stands to gain from an Indonesian project that got a $500 million loan (from China) right before he flip-flopped on ZTE.

It's a traitor and many other sorts of criminals, plain and simple. All Republicans are complicit if not active accomplices.

17

u/Iateyourpaintings 3h ago

I wish Lindsey were alive to see it.

13

u/Old_Quiet4265 3h ago

He would’ve bent over backwards and defended it like they always would. Maybe with a stern letter to the president or something.

Remember when this was one of the things Trump was going to be impeached over? Remember when they said they weren't going to do it because he learned his lesson?
