What world taught me

This world is guilty of making me learn that being kind comes with a cost. If you're kind to people, they'll use you. I learned this over time, and now I struggle to trust people. This world taught me that you can be wrong for doing good things without wanting anything in return.

Why don’t people upvote depressing content?

It may depress, and you may be impressive, but maybe you’re not strong enough to impress others with your empathy.

Without courage, you are not grown. You are the same.

Empathetic and empathic are interchangeable words. They both mean the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. But a person who is called empathic is likely British or being studied. An empathetic person is less likely to be studied.

People may avoid upvoting depressing content because publicly expressing empathy requires something of them.

The word “empathic” can turn suffering into an object of study. It allows the observer to dissociate from the person being observed.

People can know suffering as a subject of interest, yet they may not respond to it with kindness.

What's the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?

Often time people choose to be kind, even when they don't have to, and that right there is a superpower!!

We'd love to listen to your story about a stranger's kindness to you

What if kindness was a school subject?

In Denmark, children aged 6 to 16 spend one hour each week in a class called Klassens tid. They sit together and talk about problems and solve them as a team. Many reports say this became mandatory in 1993.

A study of 279,000 students in 44 countries, reported by the University of Southern Denmark, found that Danish children are among the least bullied in Europe. Researchers say online bullying still needs work. No study proves the class alone caused this, yet feeling heard helps children learn care. Imagine growing up with that hour. Would the world be gentler?

I'd rather stay kind than become like them.

I'm 30, and the year I turned 29, I met someone who turned out to be a bad person to have in my life. He made me lose a lot of friends and put me through harassment and humiliation, and the people who claimed to be my friends took part in it too. He told me he didn't like the fact that I was "too nice", and he told other people, who then repeated it to me, that he saw me as a victim, along with his so-called friends who had actually been my close friends for many years.

Some people in my social circle were shocked by what happened. They told me it was weird for people to behave that way at the age of 30, and that I was surrounded by people acting like 15-year-old teenagers.

But I'd rather stay the way I am than be as stupid as they are. Because that's all they are: idiots. Idiots who have actually told me that they know they're more intelligent than average... I have my doubts.

Please help with this special project for my boyfriend!!

Hi everyone! I posted this about a month ago and had some amazing people help me out. I’m trying to finish the project by October 31, so I’m posting again in hopes of reaching a few more places!
I’m making a sentimental gift for my boyfriend, Luke, and I’m looking for people from different cities, states, and countries who would be willing to write:

“Luke—Anne Marie’s love for you is so big, it’s reached ______.”

Fill in the blank with your city + state/country, write it on a piece of paper, and take a picture of it somewhere in your area! It can be in front of a landmark, city sign, pretty view, recognizable location—or honestly just somewhere that shows a little piece of where you live (backyards count too😂) .
Then just comment the photo here or message it to me on Reddit.
My goal is to collect as many places as I can and put all the pictures together in a book for him. ❤️
I’ll put a reference photo in the comments so you can see what I mean.
Thank you SO much to anyone willing to take a few minutes to help a stranger make a really special gift. It genuinely means more to me than you know.
I plan on posting this finished product once it’s over!

Shoutout to everyone who has helped me so far.. I absolutely adore you ♥️

What's a Tiny Thing Someone Can Do That Makes You Feel Loved?

I think one of the sweetest things about being human is that the smallest gestures can mean so much.

Someone remembering your favorite snack. A friend checking whether you got home safely. Someone noticing that you're unusually quiet and asking if you are okay.

These little things might seem ordinary to the person doing them, but they can stay in someone's heart for years.

For me, I think it's when someone remembers something I mentioned casually weeks ago. It makes me feel like they were genuinely listening.

What about you? What's one small thing that instantly makes you feel cared for?

I love you.

I don’t know your name, who you are, or what you’ve been through, but I do know that I love you.

From the little I do know, though, I can tell you this:

You are human, just like me. We breathe the same air, we feel the same joy, and we bleed the same colour. We are both beings beneath the sun.

I know you are human, and humans have something that makes us special, something that makes you special.

It’s your ability to connect.

You possess the ability to connect to anything you wish. You can feel the sorrows of a fictional character who’s nothing more than a collection of thoughts. You can feel the bonds between the people in your life. You can feel the strength of the interests you love.

That alone makes you special.
You’re a creature designed for a purpose greater than either of us can understand.

To be human is to be more than just yourself, and you’ve succeeded. You’ve lived life in unison with all the elements that surround you, consciously or not.
You are a being of love.

And for that reason,

I love you.

What started as feeding people in need turned into something much bigger

Back in February, I started doing community meal days here in Richmond, Indiana, simply because I wanted to help feed people who needed it. I never imagined it would grow into what it has become today. Since then, I’ve put on over 15 community meal days, serving everything from ribs, pulled pork, brisket, tacos and nachos to loaded hot dogs, loaded spuds, and more. Along the way, my Facebook page has grown to over 2,300 followers, and what started as one simple idea has become something I’m incredibly proud of. I’m not with big organization or a major charity. I’m just someone who wanted to make a difference in my community, one meal at a time. There have been challenges along the way, but I’ve kept going because I believe people deserve a hot meal and a little kindness. I’m sharing this because sometimes the smallest ideas can grow into something meaningful. You never know how far one act of kindness can go.

If you believe in people helping people, I hope this story reminds you that you don’t need to be rich, famous, or part of a big organization to make a difference.

This Random Act of Kindness will stay with me forever..

Clegg Brothers. Many years ago a neighbor had a heart attack while driving up his driveway. He hit and damaged his garage door. Clegg Brothers was our garage door company (I no longer own a home with a garage door, thus the past tense). I called them, explained the situation and they came and secured the door. No charge. Amazing company, can’t say enough nice things about them. That Random Act of Kindness will stay with me for always. Many years later I saw an employee of theirs at a gas station. I told him the story I just related and he said that he was one of the technicians that came to that job. It came full circle for me.

How we behave here, matters.

One thing I’ve noticed about Reddit is the kind and thoughtful people on here. And once in an awhile, someone is so rude, so judgmental and just wants to fight and use their unkind words to disempower others. I’ve made it a priority to thank them for learning more about kindness! Through their unkind words, they teach me the value of caring, of being uplifting, and of forgiveness and appreciation. It’s how I’m reframing cruelty. I’m still finding the places within myself to forgive and to love. Being kind matters and it reverberates in the world. Its ripple effect is huge. Thats the world I’m creating, even though im cognizant of other humans who do not act from their heart/values and do not choose kindness. I will not stand for cruelty, I do not let it get me down. I continue to rise above and do what I can to make LOVE my mission! Sending love and good energy to the readers out there.

How "emotional softness" affects those around me

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello all you wonderful living beings,

I often default to a state of emotional softness when dealing with people. Easing the anxiety and internal pain of others by extending a gentle healing hand always seems like the right thing to do if you're me.

Interacting with another person in this state causes them to slowly mirror those feelings, stubbornness, anger, frustration tends to simmer down, like a boiling pot that has been removed from the gas burner.

Often times, they just want to see that other people are considerate of them and mindful. This is where emotional softness almost seems like magic. You can see their conscious awareness expand in real time as the realization hits. "This is what being alive could be, this is how communities and people can really be like". This way of interacting with people often causes their illusions about life to break... For their whole lives, these folks believed that their human consciousness is limited to the state they currently find themselves in. They believed that humans are fundamentally broken like it says in the bible. I am here to tell you, that kind of thinking is wrong and it's designed to prevent you from evolving your conscious awareness.

I am here to show folks they can do and be so much more. If you see yourself as broken and never learn to fix the parts that bother you, you will naturally operate on a lower level of conscious awareness. My softness and the ability for me to harness it so easily comes down to my healing journey, fixing or integrating parts of myself that kept me on a higher level of conscious awareness.
