What is Voodoo Child to you?
For me this is the pinnacle of guitar freedom and the best guitar song ever. Itâs not the most beautiful song or anything like that, but as soon as these Eb missile fucking strikes and thunders come in on that 32nd second, my brain just goes somewhere. The tone on the rhythm section feels like scorching air being blasted into you while the solos feel like red hot rods slamming around you.
Jimi Hendrix is obviously the ultimate icon of electric guitar, but one ability of his that I donât hear mentioned a lot (actually, Brian May spoke about that once) is his ability to tame this incredible violence of the tone and produce these songs with it.
The amount of âmovementâ he was able to pull out off ONE chord and a minor pentatonic scale is just mind blowing to me. Goes to show once again that you donât need anything complicated to sound immense, you just have to beâŚwell Jimi fucking Hendrix.

âOh dear, I knew this was going to happenâ | October 1966
Itâs October 1966.
The US military sends more troops to Vietnam, while privately advising LBJ that the war doesnât seem winnable.
The âBlack Powerâ movement begins.
Congress approves the NFL-AFL merger as part of a backroom deal, paving the way for the first âSuper Bowl.â
Rumors swirl that The Beatles are breaking up.
And Jimi Hendrix stuns Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, and Paul McCartney, forms The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and starts recording.

Magic Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Berkeley [First Show]

With the recent release of the 1st Berkeley show, I decided it would be a neat idea to compile the best performances of both Berkeley shows into one playlist. The songs are ordered similar to the show itselfâlike an album would be. Thereâs a link to Apple Music in the comments. Enjoy if you wish!

Weird tracklist on Are You Experienced
Hey guys. I donât listen to Jimi Hendrix that much, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I just thrifted Are You Experienced CD, EU 1997 Version. Why is the tracklist different than on streaming platforms? It doesnât look like a bootleg, so Iâm confused.

Jimi was one the reasons I started learning to play guitar as a kid. Here's some improv over a Voodoo Child backing track
Jimi Hendrix has always been one of my idols growing up. I'm just getting back into playing again, and have been enjoying jamming over backing tracks of his songs

I interviewed Ronnie Wood all about living with Jimi in the 60's
Some great stories in here from Ronnie all about living with Jimi, especially love how he adopted Jimi's dog and of course the (sadly now) lost records !
I hope you enjoy it and would love to know your thoughts!
Also posted on my Instagram willxgamble - thanks! đ

Johnny Winter
I was just listening to a boot "Johnny Winter Reunion" 2007 with Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer and they just tore it up on their encore of "Highway 61 Revisited". I sure wish Jimi and Johnny had played that together. Made me wonder why Johnny never got the adulation that SRV gets. They did some of the same songs like "Tore Down". But to my ears Johnny is the real deal while SRV well... I dunno. What do you all think?

My custom covers for Jimi Hendrix's Berkeley 1970 shows
Hi everyone!
Iâm a Hendrix fan from Japan, and Iâm new to Reddit. My English isnât great, but Iâm happy to be here and connect with fellow Hendrix fans!
I made these matching custom covers for Jimi Hendrixâs two Berkeley shows on May 30, 1970.
The photos were captured from the Jimi Plays Berkeley Blu-ray. I carefully checked the footage to make sure each cover features the correct show.
I wasnât trying to compete with the official artwork. Iâve always loved the look and feel of old-school bootleg covers, and I wanted to create something that would look great as a matching pair in my music collection.
For me, part of the fun of collecting live recordings is having artwork that captures the atmosphere of each performance.
These are just my personal creations, made out of love for Hendrix and live music.
Iâd love to hear what fellow Hendrix fans and collectors think!
Cheers from Japan! đ¸
