Looking for someone to help film Ipswich vs Nottingham Forest on October 23 (£40 + free ticket)

Hey everyone! I’m an American sports content creator traveling to Ipswich for the Ipswich Town vs Nottingham Forest match on Friday, October 23rd.

I’m looking for someone local to help me film fan interviews outside Portman Road.

It’s super easy and only requires about 1 hour of filming total:
30 minutes before the match
30 minutes after the match
No filming during the game!

I’ll provide all the camera equipment. No professional filming experience needed, just someone reliable who can hold a camera while I interview fans.

Offering £40, a free match ticket, and food.
If interested, shoot me a DM! Happy to share examples of my previous work.

Chasing some info and recommendations

Hi there. I’ve been on the fence about getting into combat sports again. I did it when I was younger many years ago. Being still newish to the area I’m looking for some good recommendations for a place that friendly, affordable and accommodating to beginners. I’m not trying to become the next Mike Tyson but I would like to get in and try my hand at a round or two. I’m looking at gyms more catered MMA gyms, boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ.

Thanks for the help

Ipswich's soil - a random question during a stroll with the dog. Has anyone fallen in the cracks or broken an ankle? Stories relating to clay separation

Obviously not the biggest crack I've seen walking but a thought.

Suntory

With the Suntory factory being in Swanbank, I thought I’d ask here, does anyone local work there and can provide insight on what it’s like? Good people, management, or just a nice warehouse in general to work at? Been seeing jobs pop up every so often and have been on the fence. TIA

Transport with a baby

Does anyone know what public transport I can use that has baby seats? I found one obscure car service that costs 50 dollars one way to the shops which is out of my price point

Riverview Transfer Station and Recycling

I took a load of cardboard and butchers' paper (from moving house) here earlier this week. Told the bloke what I had. Was advised they would take the cardboard, but that he would have to charge for the paper. I queried why - 'We don't recycle paper yet'. Suggested I take it home.. to put in my recycle bin.

I drove in to drop the cardboard anyways into the multiple bins clearly marked 'Cardboard and Paper only'. I only assume that if I paid, it would have gone in here in the same bin?

I guess there are issues with recycling that shiny paper for pamphlets and such, but the whole experience was odd.

Anyone got any local insights on this?

We were apparently meant to have 13mm today. Instead we’ve had next to nothing with only 0.3mm coming for the rest of the day 😂

When did we start getting hit with prolonged rain last year? I can’t remember.

Would just love a day of consistent rain!

Clint's is the worst fruit shop around by far....

Really can't do it again. Celery is hollow.and dry. Cucumbers also dry and split inside. Tomatoes kept in fridge all week so they are constantly fucked. Apples grainy, oranges dry and flavour less. Seriously. He is obviously buying the cheapest shit at the markets and trying to make out he doing us a favour by providing the neighbourhood with quality fresh produce. Fucking rip off

Council show cause notices

We recently did an application for a new double carport through a builder which was approved through council, the approval covered it being close to the property boundary and for the width of 6.1m. We also redid our driveway into a double driveway and matched the existing curbing on the street. This was all done by the builder.

Someone did a snap send resolve for a hazard at the front which I assume is some soil that has been removed as part of works which is no issue we planned to fix it just hadn’t gotten to it yet.

A council member came out to look at it then started saying she was issuing a show cause notice because the curbing wasn’t the new style of curbing which wouldn’t fit in with the existing curbing and we didn’t have approval to complete the driveway works because the builder did 6.1m all the way to the road instead of coming back in to 6m.

She also said that the curbing work was a safety hazard, it’s matches fine and does protrude about 1mm however that’s only protruding because the council curbs haven’t been maintained and are rotting. There is no footpath on my road and the other side isn’t even curbed. The far end is dirt road.

She mentioned she was including the carport being too close to the boundary but I assume that the builders did what they were meant to- we were happy with the job that was done. And paid a pretty penny to get it through council to avoid this very issue.

I’m waiting on the show cause notice to come in the mail but wanted to see if others have had experience in dealing with this?

Please note I have contacted the builder and they are happy to support their work and deal with what’s needed. I just feel like this is a real overreach and like she’s looked for an excuse to penalise us despite paying appx $3k to get it through council however wouldn’t state what snap send resolve was over.

Any advice would appreciated.

Bullying, racism and lack of support at Redbank State High School — anyone else?

My family moved here in April, and we’ve found the neighbourhood lovely. Our experience with the school, however, has been incredibly disappointing.

From what the children in my family have experienced and reported, bullying and racist ridicule are recurring problems. They describe being mocked for their ethnicity and background, and feeling that nobody really gives a shit. No child should have to accept racism as a normal part of going to school.

What makes this worse is the apparent lack of support from teachers. One example we’ve been told about is an English teacher responding to requests for help with words to the effect of, “The information is on the board,” or “I’ve already read it to you. Don’t ask me any more questions.” How are students supposed to learn if they feel they can’t even ask for clarification?

I can’t speak for every teacher or student, but what my family has experienced raises serious questions about whether children’s safety, wellbeing and education are being taken seriously.

Do our kids not deserve a good education? Does living in a lower-income area somehow mean they should settle for less support, lower expectations and an environment where they don’t feel safe or respected?

Have other parents or students experienced anything similar? Has anyone managed to get bullying or racism properly addressed, either through the school or by escalating it further? I’d really like to know what has actually helped.

School recommendations

Tossing up between St Edmunds and St Peter Claver.

Did you go to either school? Was it good? Are you happy? Is your cohort doing okay for themselves since school has finished?
OR
Does your kid go there? Are you happy as a parent with the school?

Bit random but since leaving school 20 odd years ago, I can confirm I am happy but a bit fucked up and that stemmed from my school. I want to know what my kid is in for.

Any Freemasons about?

My Great-Grandfather (who passed before my mother (his granddaughter, was born 1966) was, apparently, a Freemason and I've had a case full of his documents and whatnot (the photos are just a sample) for some time now, but I really have no idea what any of it means or represents. He wasn't part of the Ipswich chapter (hope I'm using that correctly) but I'm hoping there's someone local who might be interested in taking a look and maybe giving me a bit of a history lesson? If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it 👍

Best pub for dinner?

Looking at going out for a pub dinner and love a good Parm. I’ve only been to raceview hotel as it’s closest to me but I figured I’d ask for recommendations and see if I get one place suggested more than the others.

Thanks!
