Animation showing how different optical components reflect, refract, and diffract rays of light

Whats the point of the "Planos" when they behave the same as their non plano lenses?
•
u/physwolf2759 11h ago
Optical bro here. Plano-lenses are a more optimal shape for simple focusing / collimating as compared with even bi-convex / bi-concave lenses. The most optimal shape here for a singlet using spherical surfaces is known as a "best-form" lens, which is quite close to the plano variants, but the plano are often good enough and cheaper to produce.

As someone who worked in optics… yes.

would be nice if the writing that told you all the names was in focus

A brilliant and simplified visual explanation of how light behaves and interacts with various optical components with incredible precision

Wish I saw this when I first introduced to optics…feel like it would have made everything easier to visualize

I wish this was scientifically accurate physics and not hallucinated AI slop

Its a simulation of actual physical mechanisms.
Such a dumb mf sometimes I can't take this boomer shit

Yeah pretty much.. I remember when physics engines didn't just make the maths up and spew out what it thought was right. It's scary that since the release of mainstream AI, IQ levels have significantly dropped in such a short time. And will most likely continue to do so.

IQ levels have significantly dropped in such a short time.
Would you happen to have any evidence to back up your claim?
•
u/Mammoth_Spend_5590 8h ago
Yes look up the reverse flynn effect. There has been a steady decrease in IQ levels since 1970/1975. Researchers point to environmental and lifestyle shifts (rather than genetic) such as changes in the quality of education, less reading, more screen time, and altered media habits.

But mainstream AI wasn't released close to 1970/1975?
Not to mention the only thing an IQ score actually gauges is a person's aptitude when it comes to IQ tests.. I believe using it as an objective measure of intelligence is misguided
•

The drop in IQ levels has had a sharp dip since the release of mainstream AI. It's also a worldwide study that's been independently tested by multiple other countries. Did you look at the case studies?

This is cool, but I wouldn't mind a higher quality video. Those words are hard to read on mobile.

This is oddly satisfying to watch.
