How do you know this is unusual? We don't know what the animals do in the forests

I know it would be weird if you came across me out there, with my zine just looking for a spot

Tbh, the fact the deer is laying out in the open during daylight, with no worry in the world, makes me think it has been familiarized with humans and possible visit the area they are in a lot, if not live there. The exact same can be said for that rabbit. I've watched in person dozens and dozens, maybe even hundreds of rabbits, and never have any of them done anything other than stand perfectly still and eat, hop a foot or two, rinse and repeat, then haul ass. These guys are both way too calm and carefree. Im not saying this isnt possible in the wild... but they dont even give a damn about the human filming.

Because apparently naturalists, scientists, and nature documentarists don't exist?

Not so sure it is friendship so much as “Look at this warm, furry, oddly shaped jungle gym I found and can climb on, fall off of, etc.”

Im sure even different species of fish in an aquarium can become friends. Its not outside the realm of possibility. Wasnt there a tiger who became friends with a sheep once?

Symbiotic relationships happen all the time in nature. That little bunny is taking care of fleas and ticks. Good mate.

The rabbit is eating bugs. Fleas and ticks.

Rabbits are herbivores.

u/RollinThundaga 10h ago
So are horses, and we've all seen that video of one gobbling up live chicks.
It's called opportunistic omnivory, like how cats will eat grass sometimes despite being obligate carnivores.

Rabbits will have severe gastrointestinal issues if they eat a bunch of bugs. They can't throw up or even burp, so anything that could cause gas can kill them.

Definitely a YouTube channel that puts different food items in the woods with a trail cam and you could see what shows up. Some of the animals could eat with each like the deer and squirrel or raccoons etc

More like the rabbit is trying to figure out how to mate with the back of its head.

It's not unusual, they even made a movie called Bambi about the friendship between a deer and a rabbit

is this friendship, or does the rabbit think the deer's neck and head is another rabbit and is trying to make more rabbits?

Perfect opportunity for a double head shot when both are perfectly aligned. Easy food.

do both these individuals need each other to survive? I don't think this is symbiosis at all.
I think they're just exhibiting friendship that has nothing to do with mutual gain. One of the rare instances where you can see animals are more than just animals.

u/eyefartinelevators 10h ago
They never said symbiosis. They said commemorates which isn't the right word either, but they didn't say symbiosis

they dont NEED to be hugging and licking each other tho.
Maybe in the grand scheme of things, they do need each other for survival because one removes predator appetite by providing more supply for the preds.
But, no, they dont need to be close together and doing this.
