You give a Heron a fish and he will eat for a day, you teach him how to restock the lake and he will eat for a lifetime.

Light a man a fire and he's warm for a day.
Set him on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

They swallow small fish whole. It probably grabbed it because free food and walked away, realized it couldn't swallow it, and dropped it, which happened to be back into the water.

Nah, that heron has at least an associates degree in conservation from a local community college.

Hopefully not Greendale Community College. They once gave a degree to a dog.

this reminds me of the time that I offered a heron a new Mercedes and he just drove it back to the dealership. I learned my lesson about German cars, gifts, and wading birds on that day. oh yes.
I would have thought he would have eaten the fish though.

Probably not the same, but gives me spiders releasing prey from their webs when they don't need it vibes. I remember growing up catching crickets and putting them into orb weavers' nets. Sometimes they would roll it up. But, most of the time they just let it go.
EDIT: Poor grammar

Letting him know he can fend for himself. Pride won't have him feeling he owes someone.

Too big ma dear!! Sheesh! Do you ever watch what they eat and spear in the ocean? Small fish or bait from a fisherman.

Heron thinks more sustainable way. Let the fish live and have an offspring for the heron to harvest later.🤣

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen with my eyes, maybe the heron wasn't hungry 😲

Herons are notorious assholes

Look at that human holding a living fish like that and throwing it on the ground. So cruel. Humans are the supreme assholes.

Lol maybe, except the human didn't hold the fish by impaling it through the back with it's beak and dragging it by that hole back into the water, where it can suffer rather than continue its journey in the great circle of life!
