So this is a smooth helmet iguana and I'm not sure why she won't eat. She's from an expo. It's like a basilk (sp) in care but I'm not getting anywhere on eating. Does anyone have advice

I’ve had him for less than a week. He’s extremely scared of me. Lately he’s been whipping me while I put his dinner. Thankfully he’s been eating/drinking/pooping well… just doesn’t want to be approached much.

Guys, is it normal for my iguana to want to eat before going to sleep? (I know they need a very high temperature after eating) And at night the temperature is 22-23 degrees. Then is it normal that after a large meal he makes strange noises with his throat and mouth as if he were swallowing something and takes louder audible breaths? Please answer me....

So...someone decided to be an absolute star and drop his/her tail!
Not the 4-5 month check in I wanted to show.
But here it is none the less, it happens. Thankfully it wasn't my mistake of grabbing the tail.
Fully his/her decision to fly to the back of the enclosure and squiggle through logs. I have adjusted the basking sticks more to avoid any further injuries.
I've owned iguanas for YEARS. This is the first time I've had a juvie throw a tail. Wild caught or captive bred!
Blue is a WC, NO: I DO NOT CONDONE TAKING ANIMALS FROM THE WILD. Blue was a home depot hitchhiker.
Just showing the not so cute side of green iguana ownership. You do get your hard headed, "mean" critters every now and then. Don't blame them, they're just animals! Nothing mean about em. Frustrating...yes, absolutely. But you gotta love and respect them none the less!
P.S. I'm more upset that his/her tail section was freshly shed too! ðŸ˜

I’ve always loved iguanas. Everything about them, from their appearance to their personalities, has always fascinated me. I genuinely think they’re some of the most beautiful creatures out there. Recently, I finally had the opportunity to get one of my own! His name is Trinidad (I’m assuming he’s a male for now), and I’ve been trying my best to give him a good home.
The same day I bought him, I went ahead and purchased everything I thought he’d need. I got him a 75-gallon aquarium to use while he’s still small, with plans to eventually move him into a much larger 6’ x 6’ enclosure as he grows. I also bought a heat lamp, UV lamp, bedding, a nice climbing log, rocks, and thermometers/hygrometers to monitor his temperature and humidity. However, there’s one thing I’ve been struggling with, and that’s getting him to eat consistently. He doesn’t seem interested in eating every day. Instead, he usually eats every other day. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m around when I put his food in, if I’m giving him too much food at once, or if he’s still adjusting to his new environment. I’ve tried offering him collard greens and turnip greens, but he doesn’t seem interested in either. He will eat squash and zucchini, though, and he’s eaten some red bell pepper. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in fruit, either. I’m trying to figure out if this is normal behavior for a young iguana or if there’s something I need to change about his setup, feeding routine, or diet. I’m completely new to owning iguanas, and while I’ve been doing my research, I know there’s still a lot I need to learn. I really want to do right by Trinidad and make sure he grows up healthy and happy.
For those of you who have raised iguanas, especially from a young age, what advice would you give me? Is eating every other day normal while they’re adjusting, or should I be concerned?
Any advice or constructive criticism is genuinely appreciated. I’m here to learn and give this guy the best life I possibly can!

I've never done it. I have a large outdoor enclosure and used to have a mated pair but the female died. Once that happened I started thinking maybe I could keep my male from being bored by walking him. (until i get a new female) Thoughts are appreciated.
