Advice Should I upgrade my iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd gen), and if so, which model would suit my needs?

Hello! I have an iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd gen, Wi-Fi, 256GB), which I bought in 2020.
I mainly use it for web browsing, watching Apple TV, and playing games with simple graphics (Rusty Lake, for example). I also take it with me on occasional trips because it’s convenient for looking up restaurants, reading reviews, and researching places to visit.

Overall, I’m still happy with its features and performance when it works properly, but there are two reasons I’m considering an upgrade:
It’s been acting up lately. Sometimes it lags, the screen goes completely black with a spinning circle in the middle, and it takes a while to respond. Even when I turn it on, it sometimes takes a long time to start up, with the same spinning circle. I’m not sure whether this is a sign that it’s getting old or whether it could be fixed without replacing it.

I’m travelling to Japan this autumn. The euro is currently quite strong against the yen, and I may be able to get a tax-free purchase, so I’m wondering whether this would be a good opportunity to upgrade if it makes sense to do so.

I currently use the Apple Smart Keyboard that was available when I bought the iPad. It doesn’t have a trackpad, and I actually prefer it that way. I don’t really need a trackpad, and the newer Magic Keyboard is considerably more expensive. Having a keyboard attached to the cover is convenient, though, so I’d like to keep that setup if possible.

I’ve tried generic keyboard cases without a trackpad, but they didn’t work very well. I haven’t been able to find a current Apple keyboard case that offers the same kind of setup as my old Smart Keyboard, either.

So, what would you recommend?
Should I upgrade, or would it be worth trying to fix my current iPad first?
If I do upgrade, would an iPad Air be sufficient for my needs, or would a Pro make more sense?

Given how I use my iPad, which generation and storage capacity would you recommend?
Are there any good keyboard cases without a trackpad that you’d recommend?

I don’t need a particularly powerful iPad for professional work or demanding games. I’d rather not spend more than necessary on features I won’t use, but I’d like something reliable that will last for several years.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Question Should I update my iPad Pro 11" 2nd Gen (A12Z) from iPadOS 17 to iPadOS 27?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I have an 11-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation, A12Z) and I’m currently running iPadOS 17.

Would you recommend updating to iPadOS 27, or should I stick with iPadOS 17? I’m usually hesitant to update older devices because I’ve heard that newer OS versions can make them slower or affect battery life.

However, I’ve heard that iPadOS 27 runs surprisingly smoothly, even on older iPads.

For those of you using the same iPad or a similar older model, how has your experience been? Is performance and battery life still good, or have you noticed any slowdowns?

Thanks!

13 inch as a tablet?

Yes, I’m sure the 11 inch feels better using the pro as a tablet but is the 13 inch much more bulkier? Anyone able to just chill on the couch and use the 13 inch as a tablet?

Which should I buy: the 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro?

I’m looking to get a used iPad primarily for watching YouTube before bed and creating simple illustrations. I’m deciding between the 2018 and 2020 models; there’s a $100 price difference—do you think it’s worth it?

Since Procreate supports older OS versions, I’m leaning toward the 2018 model for my needs, but as this would be my first iPad, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Suggestions for someone new in digital art

Sorry if this is asked all the time.

Both my mother and my girlfriend are artists, my mother is a painter and every other medium under the sun, and my girlfriend is a fashion designer and also enjoys drawing. I bought a neo at the beginning of the year and loved it, upgraded to a pro. My mother is now using the neo, but both ladies need a new computer. Neither does anything extensive they would need anything beyond a neo for, but I feel like an Ipad would be a better option for both of them. Neither of them seem to prefer Mac OS over IOS, and for their uses an ipad would be just fine but also open them to the world of digital art. I took my mom into best buy this morning and checked out the air vs the pro, and of course theyre side by side so you can see the refresh rate of the pro demolish the air, and the brighter screen etc.

Here it is. I want to get them both an iPad for christmas (i'm not rich just financially irresponsible). I would love to see them enjoying a whole new world of art. So what do I go for? I want 13" regardless, and I know I'm on the Pro sub, but do they need the m5 series? m4? Would an m3 be a nice thing for these purposes?

I'm just a little lost, I don't want to get them some outrageous RAM monster that will never be used to it's potential, but I don't wanna cheap out and get them something underwhelming.

Harken, O digital artists of reddit, to give a witless son and boyfriend wisdom!

AppleCare+ question

I purchased an iPad Pro m5 13” last week

AppleCare+ through Apple is $114/year

AppleCare+ for a 2 year plan through CDW is $179

I plan to do 2 years of coverage overall, what’s the con in going with CDW? I was going to get AppleCare+ through Amazon but they don’t sell it without device purchase at the same time

13in iPad Pro Cases

What iPad cases are yall rocking ? Currently in the look for something thin, magnetic or something that can easily be snapped in or off if not swappable.

My main issue is that I want something that can stay on but can still keep its magnetic capabilities, kind of like a MagSafe case for iPhone but for an iPad.

Discussion Is anybody using SKINS ?

Hi everyone.
I was just wondering if I should get a skin for my iPad Pro M4 13-inch.
Currently I am using a spigen rugged armour case. So I was thinking do I need to apply lamination skins on all side from dbrand or somewhere for better protection?

Why tf is it so hard to put on a case??

For context I own the iPad Pro 13 inch M4 and i have attempted to put a case on them that is durable (so it’s not very flexible) but I am afraid of me dropping it, bending it, or like scratching it…

Need some advice. Do I just go case-less? Which cases do you recommend? I’m just really desperate for a good case because I’m bringing this to college and I’m NOT gonna risk the table scratching my iPad when I write on it.

This is the case I’m using right now, from Uniq.

Discussion Exchanged iPad Pro sanity check

Hello,

I recently traded my used iPhone 17 Pro for a brand-new, base-model 11-inch iPad Pro M5 (Wi-Fi), and I've been amazed by it so far.

However, one thing that's been bothering me is that the seller I traded with had no proof of purchase. He claimed that he received the iPad as a gift from a family member, who had supposedly received it as a gift from their employer (?).

I was able to activate the iPad without any issues and link it to my Apple Account. There's no MDM management or any sign of previous use, and it still has about a year of Apple's limited warranty remaining.

Have I been scammed somehow, or am I just being paranoid? The deal almost seems too good to be true, especially considering that the iPad was brand new.

I also noticed that the seller managed to sell my old iPhone on Marketplace the very same day, using the photos I had taken of it.

Something about the whole transaction just feels a bit off, and I can't shake the thought that the iPad might be stolen or that something else could be wrong with it. I really don't want to get into any trouble, and honestly, these thoughts are keeping me from fully enjoying the device.

What do you think? Am I overthinking this, or do I have a legitimate reason to be concerned?

Advice Would an IPad Pro best suit my use case?

I'm looking for a device that can somewhat do everything I would need for work while also being able to take it home with me.

For reference, I'm an Aircraft Maintenance Floor Lead that handles a lot of paperwork, troubleshooting, and retrieving aircraft files. I also edit a lot of PDFs and sketch out notes for the day. We have several programs for our aircraft that require the use of an IPad but we also have proprietary programs that read data from the aircraft using Windows Programs.

I've read that UTM can virtualize Windows on an IPad but I don't know to what extent it can use USB Port passthrough to read and send signals.

Is that possible? A big part of this too is being able to cut down on what I need to carry in my backpack for the day.

Advice Screen Size Dilema

I feel like a question like this comes up reasonably regularly on here, but here I am struggling to choose the screen size of my next iPad.

I currently have a 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch which is really starting to finally creak along after 8 years of service. This has been my main do-it-all device, spending most of its time either in a magic keyboard case or attached to a Kuxiu arm on my nightstand for media consumption in bed. I have a pencil, but seldom use it, besides signing documents occasionally. I honestly really don’t need the Pro, but want the better screen and figure that buying the most powerful iPad I can today will set me up well for another long journey with this new tablet.
Prior to this iPad I had the OG pro iPad 12.9, and remember enjoying the additional portability that moving to the 11 gave me.
Still I am stuck in choosing sizes. There is the strong draw of the larger screen size and the knowledge that the iPads have become more portable since my current iPad was released and way thinner since my OG larger iPad came out.

I travel a fair bit with my tablet, both to and from the office and on flights, so I worry that the 13 will be too feel on the airplane tray table or hotel nightstand, but enjoy the idea of having a larger image to watch content or screen to better multitask with when working or browsing etc.

Anyone else gone through this dilemma? What did you do? Were you happy with your choice?

My hopes for the new upcoming iPad Pro 11” is that they keep the same size but give it iPhone like bezels. So it Will maybe be 11.4/11.5” instead. Would be so cool with smaller bezzels.

Discussion Invisible iPad Pro screen protector

I just bought a iPad Pro m4 256gb cellular for $1050 with tax in Canada. 100% battery heath, 7 cycles.

Upgraded from a iPad air 4 I had since launch in 2020.

What are the best screen protectors that will:

- Be edge to edge with minimal glare and border
- Possibly no camera and face ID cutout

ESR Rebound 360 vs Typecase Edge Magic for iPad Air M4 13-inch

Hey guys, I'm planning to buy a keyboard for my iPad Air M4 13-inch and I'm confused between ESR Rebound 360 and Typecase Edge Magic.

I like the floating design like Apple's Magic Keyboard, but I don't want to spend that much on Apple's original one.

I've seen some people mention magnetic issues with ESR, so I'm a bit concerned about that. Also, I want to know which one has a better and bigger trackpad.

If anyone is using either of these, how's the typing experience and build quality? Any issues after using it for a few months?

I know the Typecase doesn't have a detachable iPad case in the version I'm looking at.

Which one would you guys buy? Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have used them. Thanks!
