Sixth round of my Hyprland shell. New: liquid glass on the bar, the island, the widgets and the dock, rounded screen corners, a bezel bar, screen time, a panel for the dev servers you have running, and lyrics on the lock screen while it scans your face.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something I've been building for around two months. Morgan is a shell that was born from mainly two factors:
1) my desire to learn something about Rust and understand why it was so popular.
2) my insatisfaction with previous configs of prebuilt shells such as Noctalia and DMS, but also modular configs based on rofi/walker, mako/swaync, swayosd, hyprlock/hypridle, etc.
There are two neutral objectives behind it as well. First one is cohesiveness. I didn't want a Frankenstein setup. I wanted the different parts of the shell to look like each other, because I didn't want to design each new thing I wanted to implement from scratch. Second objective is non-refundancy. If a function is in the control center you'll certainly not find it in the config menu.
AI was heavily used to figure out how to implement things and to simplify code and connect it. It is the main responsible thing for translation to English as well. I cannot say that I became a Rust developer in the process, so there are obvious limitations. Also, the shell was made with the primary goal of satisfying my needs and desires. Customization is not really a priority and certainly will not be it in the future.
Heavy and actual testing is a thing that compensates only partially my lack of knowledge. But I have only tested it myself in only a particular computer with a particular set of programs (those are documented). Be aware that there might be problems to make use of the functions of the shell that connect to other ones.
So, should you try it? Only if you're willing to tinker or use a similar set of programs. I'm pretty open to suggestions to optimize its code, improve its security and fix bugs. Again, customization is not really a priority and the shell will stay for a considerable time as a personal project to suit my use cases primarily.

EDIT: forgot to say that it is available in both English and Spanish

I wanted vicinae/Raycast features in a look that matches my terminal, so I built zunder (Rust + GTK4 + layer-shell).
- ALT+TAB with a live preview of every window, any workspace
- apps, windows, files, emoji, calculator, unit and currency conversion, world clock (`time in tokyo`), clipboard history
- Ctrl+F pins anything to the start screen, Ctrl+B gives any result a global Hyprland keybind
- 12 themes, a settings window, plugins in any language (scripts that print lines)
- `zunder import vicinae` takes over your favorites
Arch package on the release page, AUR once registration reopens.

Feedback welcome.

The Hyprland + Quickshell setup I've been building for quite long atp, now has a dedicated Settings UI, with the idea that everyone should be able to customize their desktop according to their own preferences, from placement and scale to its overall appearance.
From customizing the bar and setting your own keybindings choosing your own fonts and Displays, and more to come as I keep expanding on it.
Credits to the person who replied to my previous post. That gave me the idea for the Settings UI and made me realize it was worth the effort. π
The best part is that this can keep expanding as I continue working on it. This could provide sensible defaults while keeping customization fully under your control, giving a new baseline.
No bad juju behind the scenes. (Just kidding. Seriously, why would I do that to myself when I am doing it for fun?) π
Currently, there is still quite a lot of customization options I am yet considering to add, but I decided to begin with the useful ones(Settings open via Start+Shift+A to avoid confusion already...)
Yall can try :)

I've been building my own desktop on Hyprland for a while and finally put it in a public repo. It's called Cove.
What's in it:
- Bar with 8 styles and a dynamic island (player, notifications, volume, screenshot preview)
- Launcher with prefixes: = calc and currency, / files, @ windows, : clipboard, ; emoji, + timers
- Control center, desktop widgets, wallpaper picker, lock screen and greeter, all in Quickshell
- A settings window with 19 sections, so I almost never edit configs by hand
- The palette comes from the wallpaper and gets applied to the shell, kitty, fish, GTK/Qt, Firefox and a few apps (Telegram, btop, mpv, yazi)
- Cove Code, a small terminal editor I wrote with Textual, and Cove Files, a file manager in Quickshell
Hyprland 0.56 with the Lua config. Arch only for now, there's an install script that links everything with symlinks and backs up your old files.
Dotfiles: https://github.com/cvsqwe/cove
Happy to answer questions or hear what to improve.

Showcase of all the themes I've curated into my rice. Total of 15, they change everything ranging from widgets to giving unique borders to every container.
Rice - https://github.com/dhrruvsharma/shell
Wallpaper - https://github.com/dhrruvsharma/wallpapers
Standalone wallpaper picker - https://github.com/dhrruvsharma/qs-wallpaperpicker
Standalone novel/manga/anime - https://github.com/dhrruvsharma/qs-novelmangareader
There isn't much left to do for me now in this rice, so I don't think I'll even change it now, might just keep maintaining it or include fixes but yea this seems complete now.

I live in Hyprland on my desktop and my phone home screen felt like the odd one out, so I built Hyprtile, an Android launcher that works like it:
Not affiliated with hyprwm, just a fan. Guide: https://zanoshky.github.io/hyprtile-launcher
Happy to hear what a Hyprland user would want on a phone.

A few days ago I posted Hyprdrive for Omarchy here. Folks on both r/omarchy and r/hyprland asked me to make a version for native Hyprland, so I did, and it's now ready for early access.
The headline feature is Mosaic: a new way of organizing your windows. It works alongside tiling, scrolling and any other layouts you may have, so it doesn't replace your setup.
A heads-up: the native Hyprland version is nearly ready but still buggy in places. It will be in continuous development, so expect regular updates.
I've read everyone's comments on the earlier posts and I'm working hard on implementing all the requested features. Feedback, bug reports and feature requests are welcome, either right here in the comments or on GitHub.
GitHub: https://github.com/dragosol/Hyprdrive
Earlier post (Hyprdrive for Omarchy): https://www.reddit.com/r/hyprland/comments/1x5osro/hyprdrive_a_missioncontrol_overview_search_and/
Hyprdrive is a Hyprland plugin that brings the best parts of other desktops to Hyprland: a macOS- and GNOME-style overview of every window, type-to-search, and a dock with live previews, all following your own theme.

You may have already seen my past post yesterday where I introduced Loaf for all of you, and that got so many likes and support with a lot of you asking to try it so here it finally is!
(btw, thank you all for supporting and suggesting stuff)
Loaf is a beautiful and fast rust-based material 3e file manager for Linux. It's designed to replace crowded, outdated file managers with an interface that looks modern, runs fast, and doesn't compromise on functionality. Built using **Rust** for native system performance and **Qt6 Quick / QML** for fluid Material 3 Expressive animations.
I built it simply because no other file manager out there was right for me. Dolphin had all the features i wanted but looked bad, nautilus looked good but had no features and all the rest fell somewhere on that spectrum.
While Loaf isn't the most feature-packed file manager at the moment, a lot is planned for it. But I've finished working out the core functionalities and I feel like this is a good time to release this, so please welcome in... π₯π₯π₯ π Loaf file manager
This is still in a very early stage, so you should expect bugs. A lot are already known and are being worked on but if you experience any bugs please do report it to the issues page. If you want to request any features, you can do so either here or on the discussions page, I'll happily build whatever y'all want. And lastly, if you're interested in contributing you can always fork the repo and open up a PR, contributions are super welcome.

Hey everyone!
I've been working on a project called Material 3 Android Shell. It's a Wayland shell with a greetd-based login screen, and I've been using Claude to help build it.
The goal is to create a modern, Material 3-inspired desktop experience for Wayland. I've implemented most of the basic features you'd expect in a settings app, and I'm continuing to work on improving the overall experience.
Some highlights:
This is still a work in progress, but I wanted to share it with the Hyprland community and see what you think.
Project: https://github.com/Abijspy/material3-android-shell
I'd love to hear your feedback, suggestions, and ideas for features that would make this more useful as a daily-driver desktop shell. Also curious to hear from anyone who's experimented with building their own shell or desktop environment for Wayland.
Thanks!

I know im not the first and not the last one to try to replicate the macos liquid glass, but i tried to do it as much as possible and I don't think any other liquid glass copies achieved this level of detail with projections and animations. Check this out! serpantinum.dev
