The American Relief Plan was absolutely terrible policy and was probably the biggest factor in costing Democrats the 2024 election. The economy was already nearly fully recovered from Covid and it looked like the US was going to avoid the inflation the rest of the world was suffering from. But for some bizarre reason, Democrats passed the ARP which set off inflation in the US for the next three years and led to Trump winning against all odds.

Here's the thing. Both sides name a bill something patriotic to promote it. Instead of passing a 10 page bill that deals only with the subject at hand most bills are hundreds or thousands of pages that have very little to do with what the title says it will do. I haven't read either bill but I wouldn't be at all surprised if a whole hog farm was in them.

Or maybe they voted against it because it came only weeks after the bipartisan COVID-19 relief package, less than 10% of its spending addressed public health or coronavirus response, and because republicans were completely shut out of the negotiations/drafting of the bill?

If you put a cat in a dog costume, it’s still a cat. Democrats dressed it up as a relief bill, but it was just full of partisan spending goals. No shit republicans voted against it.
