Question Does anyone have experience giving their hamster metacam?

My girl is a dwarf and got prescribed .03ml once a day for inflammation. I trust this vet, but I have a bit of trauma from a different vet giving my girl a completely wrong dosage of antibiotics in the past. Does .03ml of a 1.5mg-mL suspension align with anyone else’s past experience?

Rainbow Bridge Popcorn crossed the rainbow bridge

My buddy Popcorn unfortunately passed away after suffering from a tumor for a few weeks. He had medication from the vets but heartbreakingly it didn’t work. I’m so devastated, I loved him more than anything. My little guy always waited for me when I’d come home from work and always jumped into my hands whenever he could. It felt so odd to come home and not have him waiting to see me today. I just hope that he is in hammy heaven eating all the seeds and broccoli he desires.

Popcorn was the first hamster I ever owned, and it was incredibly rewarding to me. To have such a tiny creature trust me more than anything feels like such an honour, and I feel so lost without him. He lived to be almost two, and I’d like to think I gave him a wonderful life. I remember scouring this subreddit for weeks before getting him, learning everything I could and being so incredibly excited to care for one. It doesn’t feel like two years ago.

Since we don’t have grass in our yard, we buried him in a large plant pot last night, and tomorrow we are going to plant flowers in his pot. It’s going to make me so upset, making it feel more final, but I’ll be looking forward to seeing his flowers bloom.

Question Trimming fluff? First time owner

Post image
61 Upvotes

So my hamster is unbelievably fluffy and I’m just wondering if I have to trim his fluff? He’s super docile so it wouldn’t be a problem but I also never find mats or anything stuck in his fur?

My dad insists I do but I’m not sure…

Question Want to rescue a second hamster but im afraid that my current one gets jealous or scared

I owned lots of hamsters in a past but always as solo one hamster. I currently have one and half year old my babyboy that I deeply love and that can even do small adorable tricks like standing up or waits for me when I come from school, literally I come home and he immediately wake up and want hugs.

I went to one pet store and randomly saw a really cute adorable most likely boy as well, as I saw a balls (i think) and I felt in love, he is in very small poor glass “house” and I feel so bad for him, but I just for lack of space, upcoming move out and lack of experience of care for two hamsters, I thought someone take him…. However its been over month and half and he’s still there:/ i want to cry thinking about him, but also im so scared that my loved boy gets scared or jealous that I get second hamster, that he will feel him by sniffing or something and dies or something.

To be clear, i KNOW they need SEPARATED homes and i would of course BUY NEW one, however they would be basically beside each other by distance of 1 meter max in separated enclosure and everything, im still afraid that they can get to know about others presence by smell or that i get to hug one then the second.

I also feel scared that i feel in love with one more and neglect the other, not that i would do it on purpose but i just never got two animals at once so i dont know if i would be able to love both the same:/

I add photo of that adorable hamster and my precious loved boy

Question Flies attracted to enclosure

It's entering the warmer months where I am and along with that I live in a rural farm and ranching district. Which means no matter how clean you keep things, you're gonna get flies 😑

Lately some flies have been particularly interested in the hamster enclosures. Not a swarm or anything, just one or two here during the day. I chase them off whenever I notice them and swat them when I can. I also keep on top of spot cleaning and check food stashes so there's no risk of any eggs being lain.

Mainly I'm worried about the potential of them carrying sickness on to the hamsters? Is that something that can happen? So far my hams haven't been bothered by them because the flies are all gone by sundown.

What are some pet safe ways to keep the flies away? Maybe something akin to a mosquito net over the wire lid?

Discussion Unethical methods to tame a hamster?

I wonder how some YouTubers, tame their hamsters.
Often hamsters held in way to tiny enclosures with no bedding to burrow and less enrichment.
I think sometimes in even a smaller cage for the beginning to force the hamster to interaction. Like instead of a playpen..?

But the hamsters are super tame, relaxed and show no signs of stress at all.

How is this done?
Do they use some tricks or test hamsters and just keep the naturally tame ones?

What do you guys think about that?

New Hamster I rescued these two siblings

They are a brother and sister and used to live with their other siblings in a small container since birth which means that the female might already be pregos. Unfortunately I couldn't adopt all of them. I'm gonna find a different enclosure to separate them soon but meanwhile they are cuddling all the time. Any suggestions for names? I was thinking Iroh and Persephone.

Also , should I adopt the rest of the hamsters that are living in poor conditions, separate them all and foster them until I find them a new home? They are not many.

Other They restricted the access of the park I buried my hamster in

I got a hamster last year after a lot of research for pets and I came to the conclusion of getting a hamster as I live alone for college and can't provide much attention and time. He passed away last month and I buried him in a nearby park. I used to go there every evening to walk and sit beside his grave. But yesterday when I went there the caretaker denied access and told me it's not accessible anymore as there's some plantation going on and it will take a lot of time and this is my last semester at college so I'm scared if I will ever be able to see him again
