Discussion One last time. Spoiler

Post image
203 Upvotes

One last time, one last set. Oikawa didn't toss to Iwaizumi to wjn, he tossed to Iwaizumi to thank him for their time together in Seijoh. The moment they shared with the 3rd years and their Kouhai's knowing they live in different path. One last time they'll be together on the court. They'll live in different future, Oikawa in Argentina and Iwaizumi in California. But they'll forever cherish their friendship and sometime when they met again they'll do their signature fist bump.

Yeah my heart has been broke while writing this. And no I didn't kiss a brick.

Question Haruichi Furudate and where is he is now

It’s so weird seeing MHA fans having some kind of communication with Horikoshi and Gachiakuta fans having direct tweets from their manga author.

Then we just have Furudate, with us being fed once since 2020-2025 and disappear after that. I’m not saying he’s done with Hq it’s just that he I guess rather stays on the sidelines and never publicly announced or spoken abt Hq himself or made any interviews himself or personal announcements.

The Hq fandom just feels like a child who hasn’t seen their father in a while. Like? Has he ever seen the fanart or the fanfics cuz if a manga author is online they would know right? And I just took it as he doesn’t really care what we do like “oh cool fanart” or “cool appreciation post” or “ehh. Whatever happens, happens”

Tell me guys has he ever said anything in the past personally after the manga finished other than official manga or magazines and the anime in general??

Discussion Rank these teams! + other interesting questions Spoiler

Post image
18 Upvotes

Considerations:

*Peak highschool level forms by the end of the nationals arc. Examples: Hinata having decent floor defense, Bokuto completely wiping off his emo states and becoming a true ace, etc.

*Pseudodraft process: I employed a drafting process distributing a main player whom the team will be built around, then a setter whom I feel like can complement them really well, then I stopped the draft, continuing to personally handpick the rest of the team.

*Due to limitations of certain positions, I didn't restrain the the wing spikers to the OH or OPP positions. The positions I chose for each team are: 3 wing spikers, 2 middle blockers, 1 setter, 1 libero.

*Assume that these players entered the same school accordingly, progressing to their current year levels in the series in order, which means they have been playing with each other for that amount of time i.e. the third years have been playing with each other for three years.

Disclaimers:

*The characters who made the tier list are unashamedly biased and arbitrary, but that is what gives hypotheticals like these novelty—all we have to do now is see how each team would fare against each other

*Team-building was slightly geared towards functional synergy more than absolute offensive-defensive balance, what’s the most optimal, or what’s the most thematically accurate (but they were all still considered of course), but admittedly, none of the teams are perfect because of the selection process and limited pool.

*I tried to balance the teams' strength along with dynamics, narrative themes, and a general structure/philosophy/system. I picked from a pool of players whom I think are the most talented, or who have an overall baseline strong enough to support and skill-wise mesh well with a team built around said players, spread across 4 teams.

Team 1

Core: Ushijima, Akaashi

Members: Iwaizumi, Nakashima, Tsukishima, Hirugami, Komori

Analytical, intelligent, and tall middle blockers, floor defense powerhouses in both wing spikers and the libero, a stable setter, and arguably the most devastating and most consistent ace in the series, it feels like we have an upgraded and infinitely more well-rounded version of Shiratorizawa... that's just how overwhelming Ushijima's mere presence is in a team, still carrying his school's philosophy on his back. Ushijima may be a black hole when it comes to offensive pressure, but Akaashi can definitely distribute the ball and organize the offense efficiently and consistently while still being dedicated to the super ace, especially since his other wing spikers can break through blocks in their own ways, and are also threats. The defense of this team is arguably equally high level as the offense both in blocking and receiving as we have two elite read-blockers and the best highschool libero along with both the wing spikers who also have receiving as a core part of their identities. I think this team is offensively and defensively balanced.

Team 2

Core: Sakusa, Atsumu, Kiryu

Members: Osamu, Hinata, Tendo, Komi

Having the heaviest offense-focused/skewed team in this tournament, I can imagine Atsumu having a dopamine overdose given the absurd range of attackers he has at his disposal. Offensively, he has Sakusa's wicked spin, Hinata's speed and unpredictability, his natural synergy with Osamu, and the powerful Kiryu who can easily adapt to whatever crazy antics they pull off and still swing with full force. At the defensive end, we have the guess monster for blocking and a nationals level libero plus the dependable Sakusa for receiving. Admittedly, defense is not the strong suit of this team, but their sheer offensive firepower might just make up for it. Imagine the crazy combination plays and crafty angles Atsumu could force open with this lineup, from lightning fast quicks (imagine two minus tempo attacks coming at you at the same time) from different directions with nasty high ball options too—I think Atsumu is the best setter to facilitate this roster.

Team 3

Core: Bokuto, Oikawa

Members: Goshiki, Asahi, Washio, Kuroo, Nishinoya

I think of this team as the traditional powerhouse. Personally, the wing spikers I gave Oikawa are those whom I think have higher psychological ceilings that he can absolutely bring out. Him instilling confidence in these particular spikers would make this a team to be feared. I'd like to think that Asahi has grown to become a confident, nationals level player, Goshiki is someone with great untapped potential that just needs to be awarded with opportunities, and Bokuto as a complete ace can be wielded by Oikawa maximally. Who better to set to these exceptional players if not him? Also, Bokuto and Oikawa, in canon, have really strong bonds with their setter/wing spiker counterparts with a story built around them, so it'd be interesting to see how those two would be as a duo on the court. Defensively, you have a master of both aerial and floor defense in Kuroo (who's also a great motivator for our other players), and another top-tier, nationals level blocker in Washio. Of course, you can't go and have all these without the guardian deity, Nishinoya, standing guard at the rear (not to take away from Bokuto's and Goshiki's decent receives). I think he would benefit greatly from having two competent middle blockers to narrow the path of the ball more consistently. Again, another very balanced team both offensively and defensively with a high skill floor and an even higher skill ceiling.

Team 4

Core: Korai, Kageyama

Members: Ojiro, Nobuyuki, Suna, Aone, Yaku

In my opinion, a very technically sound team in an understated way. Running the offense, we have an ultra precise setter who has become the best in the series, if I may say so, who also has a range of attackers in his arsenal. There's Hoshiumi the absolute all-arounder who's maxed out in all aspects of the game, Aran who is an athletic freak and one of the strongest offensive pieces in the series easily spiking over three blockers, and Suna who can easily find his way around blockers. Imagine the ever versatile Hoshiumi brewing up all kinds of attacks with Kageyama. Imagine Kageyama's precision further widening Suna's scope/range of attack. Defensively, we have three systems stacked on top of each other—Date Tech, Nekoma, and Kamomedai. Suna is quick on his feet as a blocker, but it pales in comparison to the systematic blocking duo that is Hoshiumi and Aone. Reinforcing the back row is the receiving system of the stable Nobuyuki and one of best liberos in the game, Yaku. This team probably has the greatest overall discipline out of all the teams, with the fewest tactical weaknesses, and the most sophisticated systems.

Final thoughts: I think I failed to completely synthesize new philosophies or even homogenize the philosophies of each team because the philosophy of a single player tended to stand out with me building around it, but I'm still happy with the teams I built.

I can only say so much about the synergies of the teams both functionally and personality-wise... I have longer notes about how they could all mesh well, but I summarized them for this post.

What would the rankings look like? What would a round robin look like? How could their personalities potentially go well together or clash against each other? What would be each team's greatest strengths and weaknesses? It would be interesting to see everyone's takes.

Discussion S1 E24 a disaster

Karasuno's loss wasn't about capability; it was a forced script beat made completely predictable by the sudden flood of Oikawa backstory. Instead of letting Hinata do something outlandish and wild in that unhinged final moment, the script forced a telegraphed quick directly into an inevitable wall. Worst of all, forcing this win just justified arrogance. Oikawa was smug and horrible to watch, but the narrative rewarded his toxic personality, making it feel like shitty people win just because they are shitty people. The climax completely sacrificed sports tension to check off a narrative box. The structure needed Hinata to figure something out from such a strong opponent. Sure he learns in the loss. But seeing actual growth in the moment is amazing!!! And then losing. Leaves you realizing he’s still growing.

Other Kuroko

So Haikyu is my all time favorite anime. I just finished my 5th rewatch (all in a year 💀 help im obsessed). Anyways, I made a deal with my buddy and my part of the deal was to watch Kuroko. I know this is a Haikyu sub, but I can’t help but compare.

Anyone that watched both, does Kuroko get any better? I’m on episode 25 of the 1st season and I’m so damn bored I want to die. I made a promise I’d watch the whole thing but does this get any better?! I feel like they leaned way too hard in the Shounen aspect of the vibe of the anime. Haikyu seems so grounded and so real and relatable but this (kuroko) is insanely DRAMATIC.

The animation is so stiff and these character designs holy slender man I’m hating these proportions so much.

Edit: I wanna thank everyone for their genuine comments and thoughts on my post. Responding to me like a normal person would with hardly any sarcasm or hyper opinions made all of them refreshing to read. I’m gonna keep going with a more open mind on what this anime actually is and try not to compare the two.

Discussion Which player would you resemble most in volleyball? Spoiler

For me, I’d probably say I resemble and align with Suwa the most. I am basically his height, have a buzz cut. My specialties are serving and blocking (I got a jump float and can support the middle in blocking).

The only thing is I am not a setter, and my personality is not unshakable like his. Personality wise, I’m more Bokuto. And I mainly play opposite hitter (because I’m a lefty). I am the emergency setter, when I do set. My offense is definitely very simple lol.

Discussion Which gameplan is the best planned and executed?

Sarukawa - Tiring the Brain strategy. Making Kenma moved and be tired.

Karasuno - Targeting Aran in his receiving duties.

Nekoma - Targeting Hinata, and making him unable to jump and spike.

Karasuno - Triple Blocking Ushijima, and making it spike to the best libero Noya.

Nekoma - targeting Bokuto's Mood Swings.

Discussion Coach Murphy's Genius but Risky Substitution Spoiler

Post image
26 Upvotes

"Towards the end of the third set of Kamomedai's match against Karasuno, Tokura and Norikura are subbed in for Hakuba and Suwa, respectively. This was done in order to keep three legal attackers in the front row and bolster their defense in both the front and back row, as Norikura is a taller blocker than Suwa and Hakuba isn't very strong on backcourt defense" (From Wiki)

This is getting overlooked and overshadowed by fans and readers since they focus on Hinata's and Tsukishima's fever and injury.

But this is an extremely risky substitution made by Coach Murphy.

He just benched his Captain and Best Setter in Suwa. Additionally, he also benched one of his best attackers in Gao.

They got replaced by almost NPC random players. Or maybe not.

Norikura (#7) is a Wing Spiker but apparently he is better in Blocking than Spiking. (I theorize he is a MB but can't play the psition due to Kamomedai's stacked MB lineup)

Tokura (#12) is an inexperienced 1st year setter. (But remember, Kamomedai will win the 2014 Spring as him as probably the primary setter since Suwa graduates)

If you are in Coach Murphy's shoes. Would you make the same substitution? Or you trust Suwa and Gao more than the rookies?

Other Potentially sad detail (?)

So we're all familiar with this very beautiful art spread that was released for the last chapter six years ago. I was admiring it again and I noticed the old man Ukai is nowhere to be seen? I don't know if my eyes are betraying but I zoomed in on every old guy present and none of them have his features. If I had to guess, I'd say it's the old guy in black sitting in the middle of the other coaches, but I'm not even sure of that.

I don't know if he was removed because Furudate forgot about him, or if it's because of his health condition that wouldn't allow him to be there in the first place, but if anyone has any idea of his whereabouts, I'd appreciate it greatly.
