MOD STUFF Grey's Anatomy Returns October 15th - Rule & Etiquette Refresher

Hello all,

With the premiere happening tomorrow I just wanted to take the time to remind you that the premiere is happening tomorrow :)

Also I wanted to go over a few things that we with common sense know, but just a reminder on rules and customs. If anything is on this list that isn't in the official rules it will be soon.

Please keep any posts about the newest episode in the stickied discussion thread

This is in particular common with low-effort posts. A character will do something out of pocket or unexpected and we'll get 12 posts saying "REALLY?" about one singular action. Let me be clear, we don't expect every post and comment to be high-brow analysis, but give it some effort. If that's all your post is, then it needs to be a comment. We reserve the right to remove these as needed.

If you see a post that has this issue and hasn't been removed, please report it Moderators do not go patrolling the streets of /r/greysanatomy like you may think. If you report it it will alert us and we will look at it asap. Also, we may leave it up if we feel it is appropriate to do so.

Be Nice to each other Not much to say. Pretend they're sitting across the table from you usually solves that problem.

Explicit spoilers in the title

Just a refresher on this. Don't say explicit spoilers in the title. Just had to ban someone for this a moment ago. This applies to ALL spoilers - even something from season 1. We understand that an old spoiler may be old news, but it's really not that hard to figure out how to word something that doesn't say an exact spoiler in the title.

Have fun everyone and enjoy the premiere!

EPISODE DISCUSSION Season 23 Premiere! S23E1: Collide Live Discussion Post Spoiler

Welcome to season 23!!! As always, this discussion post will go live an hour prior to the episode official airtime. All spoilers are allowed for previous seasons, but if you obtained early access to the episode please don’t spoil it early. Please keep all discussion of the premiere to this post until Saturday, then separate posts are free game as long as the titles are nonspoilery.

EDIT: I prepped this post last week, and at that time I found information about a season break from Nov-March in multiples places. More recent articles do not reflect this, so it may not be accurate. I will update as further information is posted. For now we will consider it null and void.

RJ Decker is (bizarrely) doing quite well, so it seems Nick appearances will be limited. No word on how much Meredith we can expect.

Catch back up by checking out the discussion post for S22 finale Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Original airdate: October 15th, 2026

Directed by: Debbie Allen, the wicked Catherine Avery we all love to hate

Episode summary: After a collision at Sea-Tac sends a surge of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan, the unveiling of its controversial new VIP floor is thrown into chaos as doctors race to save lives amid impossible choices.

Song title inspiration: Collide by Howie Day

Episode Trailer on YouTube

Skip ahead to next week’s episode Slippin’ and Slidin’.

Episode summary for next week: As Bailey adjusts to student life, she and Blue respond to a fraternity hazing mishap; Meredith juggles Boston and Seattle as she advocates for a young patient; Amelia and Toni support Jo.

The patient really said “I want Grey or Sloan to operate on me” at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital 💀

I just saw an Instagram reel where Richard was showing a patient the procedure on the first day of some VIP floor at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The patient apparently said she wanted Grey or Sloan to operate on her because those names are on the hospital, so they asked Meredith to do the surgery.

And I’m sorry, but my first thought was: LADY, THAT’S A MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. 😭

Does she already know Meredith is there? Has she even researched the doctors?

Because even as a non-native English speaker, I know what memorial means. It’s literally in the name of the hospital. 💀

I’m still on S15E10, so I haven’t watched this episode, and I have absolutely no idea what the full context is. Maybe there’s more to the scene, but based on that reel alone, I was just sitting there thinking, “Ma’am, what exactly did you expect?” 😂

DISCUSSION I always wonder what the show would look like today, if Mark Sloan (Rest in peace Eric Dane 🕊️) and Lexie Grey was still alive on the show today.

Just imagine the possibilities in terms of storylines they could’ve been in. Like maybe Jules meeting Lexie, and Mark Sloan meeting Lucas 🤧

DISCUSSION Which Shepherd Sister is Adams' Mom?

I can't be the only one who finds this a little nuts we still don't know the answer to this, right? Lucas has been on the show for basically 5 Seasons at this point, we know he's Amelia's nephew. Just let us know. At this point, feel like the Writers are doing this on purpose.

Personally, I do think it's most likely Nancy (given she seems to be the right in terms of age), even though she's absolutely the worst of them- so I'm hoping I'm wrong and that it's actually Liz.

Anyway, what do you guys think who could be Lucas' mother? Comment below and let me know.

funniest moments

i genuinely think some of the funniest moments on the show are scenes that are so small but hilarious.

for example, i just rewatched the episode where erica hahn joins the staff, and when derek and mark are inviting her to the gentlemen's evening, she asks, "are you two a couple?" and when they both say no and she walks away and then derek quietly says, "why would she ask that?" LMAOOOO

or another favorite is when jackson is telling cristina and alex about webber not accepting his mom's cookies and being depressed, alex says, "maybe you should hold him."

i think these small lines ARE SO FUNNY. what other small moments are your favorite parts in the show??

NEWS ARTICLES Updates from show runner Meg Marinis Spoiler

Post image
13 Upvotes

Meg Marinis just did a press run for the premiere of Season 23, and here's some things she shared about the future of the show:

-She doesn't plan on ever getting rid of the OG 3 left (Meredith, Bailey, Webber)

-She hasn't been given the official episode count for season 23 yet.

-She made comments about Grey's never ending, says it could go 50 seasons but doubts it, and that she's always asking the network when the show will end because she wants to be prepared and said they always tell her not now. She says they seem to want the end to be a mutual decision with Shonda but they're not ready for it to end.

With Chandra Wilson recently saying her and the cast are talking about hitting 500 episodes it seems Grey's could get there and beyond.

DISCUSSION Has Karev been mentioned even once since he left?

Not really including Jo alluding to her second marriage, which even so has barely happened iirc besides the first few episodes afterwards, and still she usually doesn’t mention him by name. I know supposedly Justin didn’t leave the show on the best terms, but they decided to keep him alive for a potential series finale appearance, I guess, when they could have just killed him. So it’s so weird to me that he just seems to not exist in this world anymore after 16 whole seasons. Cristina occasionally gets a text or a mention, hell even Burke got an occasional mention back in the day and we know Washington was an asshole.

FIRST TIME WATCHER watching for the first time as a whole

Hi guys im new to the show as a adult , i rember like one episode as a kid , right now I’m on season 8 episode 3 , and Ive come to realization most times I want to fight shonda rimes , not because of anything bad per say because the shows amazing , but only because she has the way (which is great in a show creator ) of making you get attached to people that she either kills , almost kills or just royalty screwing characters up , like the Denny stuff messed me up , George destroyed me , and I know there’s a bunch more coming though I will say so far the only episode I haven’t liked was song under a song ( I really hope there’s not another musical episode)

SPOILERS Am I a bad person looking forward to a tragic episode? I just can’t stand the mercy west residents

I’m currently rewatching the series all the way through. I’m on season 6 episode 9 rn and Reed and Charles are killing me. I completely forgot that Reed took George’s locker and Charles got Izzy fired. The actors did a great job in getting us to hate them lol. I’m looking forward to their deaths in the shooting episode more and more as I watch and does that make me a bad person? I know it’s not real but everytime they are on screen the hatred and anticipation is so strong 😂 plz tell me im not alone here like we all hate them right?

FIRST TIME WATCHER Ferryboat WHAT DO YOU MEAN

Yes this is my third day posting here but this show keeps playing in my face. I'm on epsisode 2 of I don't know how many of the ferryboat crash and WHAT FO YOU MEAN MERIDITH IS DYING.

Like I don't believe it because I don't think they'll kill off anyone from the main group but like I'm still stressed as fuck.

I thought that Izzie using a drill to actually go into a mans skull was gonna be the highlight (so gross but also you go my girl) and it still is but Meridith you don't have time to be seeing the ghosts of hospitals past please get up quick

DISCUSSION Songs from the Early Seasons

Every rewatch, I add a couple of songs to a playlist that remind me of certain scenes or conversations.

Of course I get a little teary eyed whenever I play “Off I Go” (elevator scene with Izzy and George).

Any favorites? Or would you like a link to my playlist wax nostalgic of Season 1-5?

SPOILERS MAJOR S8/S9 SPOILERS: Lexie going home Spoiler

Ummm I just realized I had totally missed this during my first 6ish watches. They had Lexie’s body strapped to a gurney alongside the rest of the plane crash victims on the plane back to Seattle after they were saved from the woods. That’s so morbid. At least put her in a coffin omg. She would have been dead for multiple days at this point 😭

SPOILERS Kwan and Meredith parallel

I’ve been rewatching Grey’s from the beginning for the first time since I originally watched it. It’s been interesting seeing storylines I forgot or characters I missed.

What’s really interesting is that I just got to season 8 where Meredith was fired by the board for tampering with the Alzheimer’s clinical trial, and Webber was doing everything in his power to undo that. Now he fires Kwan for administering an unapproved drug in a patient and suspends Bailey for taking the fall for it. He did the same thing!

Hypocrisy!

Who is the father?

Who is Simone going to end up with?

Is Simone going to continue the pregnancy?

I think Simone and Wes make a cute couple and i js feel ntg towards Lucas (primarily because of the actor, he looks like he's in pain at all times). I want Simone to pick Wes even if the baby is Lucas' but that seems unlikely because Simone is shown to be not completely over Lucas and Lumone is prolly endgame. I prefer Wes x Simone and Dani x Lucas over Simone x Lucas. Also i don't think Simone will go thru with the pregnancy.

Also slightly off topic but i think Jules might be pregnant too due to the fertility treatment and i think it is going to be a conflict after she splits with Winston due to the Residency Director thing. But i might be completely wrong.
