Hey everyone! I recently bought a Soviet GP-5M gas mask at a local bazaar. I suspect it’s old Soviet surplus, but I don’t know its exact storage history.
The mask looked clean when we bought it. My brother had been using it for few months before me, and I also wore it once without the filter attached. Afterwards, I washed the rubber facepiece with soap and used Fairy cleaning wipes. I noticed a slightly rubbery smell after washing.
I also handled the original filter for a few minutes. It appeared intact, with no visible dust or damage, and I put it in a bag for transport.
I want to use the mask for cosplay with a 3D-printed dummy filter instead of the original one.
My questions are:
Is the rubber facepiece itself generally safe to wear against my face?
Could the valves or other internal components contain asbestos or other hazardous materials?
Is there a way to verify the materials without dismantling the mask?
Would you recommend wearing it for cosplay sessions, or should I use a modern replica instead?
I’m not planning to use it for actual respiratory protection. I’d appreciate advice from anyone familiar with GP-5M masks and vintage Soviet surplus. Thanks!

Not loving the fibrous material and white dust in the hose, anyone know if this is normal and will just wash out, or should I just dispose of thr hose. For the time being I have sealed it in a plastic bag

Bought this gp7 came with gloves for 47 euros everything is good, but then i see mold in the intake valve. its deformed, and the guy that sold this just took a m81 flask of the swiss military,just drilled through the flask head and put the drinking straw in, the listing is the last photo, nothing of that was metioned, just said it was in stock condition and not with a drilled through flask, my father is sending it back and were getting new one, im just sad cause i was so happy when i saw it, and then, yeah. I might be getting a pbf, or another gp7vm

Hello everyone. A very unusual full-face mask came into my hands. According to the story, it's a rare transitional/experimental prototype called PPM-89 (Early).Unfortunately, the original factory log/passport was lost during relocation, so I have no paper proof. Visually, the rubber body is completely identical to the standard PPM-88 / Briz-4301 frame (it even has the standard factory stamps like F-7 and T-05 on the rubber), but the front plastic block is totally unique. The filter intake is located right in the center (front-facing), and the inlet valve assembly with the speech diaphragm cover was moved to the side port.Has anyone ever seen this specific factory modification or heard about the PPM-89 trials? Is it an ultra-rare experimental lot from the Vladimir plant, or some kind of obscure ведомственный (departmental) order? Any information would be highly appreciated!
