I can start it from any season, any episode and enter into a such a wholesome dream like state. I’m teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown and at the moment this is the only thing keeping me feeling safe. Thanks Lena <3 what’s your comfort rewatch episode?

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Does anyone else feel like Marnie’s music/Desi detour lasted too long?

I think the layoff and ending her long term relationship are super relatable and it was interesting seeing Marnie get thrown off kilter, but I feel like the delving into music moved into unrealistic territory, lasted a long time, and she never really got back on track to being “herself” and when the series ends it doesn’t really feel like she’s grown a ton. I don’t need to have seen her have it all figured out, but idk! What do you think?

Season 6 How come I don’t see anyone talk about how Marnie cheated on Ray?

I genuinely like rays character alot. He’s like the only character in the whole show who develops positively, and when Marnie cheated I came straight here to hate read some good posts and I couldn’t find anything..? Am I alone in this ??

I’m still struggling with noses and creating a believable shade of skin.
Figured I’d share anyway because I have so much fun tinkering with watercolor and pencils.
I hold the Craccident near and dear to my heart.
I had a Methcident once when I was 23 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Other Thoughts on Marnie for the reboot

In light of the new season news, I’ve obviously been reveling in the new discussion about where the girls are now and what they’ll be up to in the new episodes.

What I’ve been surprised to see in all the comments is that people sort of universally think Marnie is floundering? On a third husband ?? I can’t be the only one who thinks she’d be right where she wanted to be?

While Marnie is a mess in a lot of the show, by the end she’s portrayed to be extremely self-serving and wellness/optimizing centered. While shown to be very alienating in the show, especially when we think about ray losing hermie and her inability to connect, this kind of myopic “protecting my peace” mindset is the new norm now.

I figure in the last few years, Marnie went to law school (as mentioned in the final ep of the show) met a husband who’s a baseball cap and totebag wearing teacher, and now she’s got a kid in a stroller in Park Slope.

My ideal plot line is that she’s got it all — loves her perfect husband, and perfect kid, and perfect job— and then gets a work-crush on her coworker that turns into an affair. I genuinely think the logical conclusion for a person who never gets told no is that they never know when to stop themselves- ergo, shooting herself in the foot by blowing up her perfect marriage. I think this makes sense in the context of her breakup with Charlie and then “getting him back” (twice!!), and getting Desi even when he was in a relationship. I don’t think she ever didn’t get what she wanted.

Anyway, just surprised that everyone thinks Marnie did a big crash and burn!

Edit: after some reflection I think she might have an affair with an alternative-looking bartender or a hot neighbor, she’s prob more likely to diverge to a “bad boy” archetype who offers something new and dangerous outside of her marriage

WTF WTF WTF! Why is NO ONE in this episode giving the reaction necessary to this?? Everyone just acting as if Hannah just needs to let it go and “shit happens haha” SHE LEFT FOR A MONTH AND HER BOYFRIEND GETS A NEW GIRLFRIEND WHO WAS SET UP WITH HIM BY HANNAS BEST FRIEND 😭 I’d be climbing the walls, livid, foaming at the MOUTH dying, dead AND DONE! But Hanna is crazy bc she laid down for a while and was upset?? Omfg I could’ve screamed. SCREAMED.

Other First watch - Hannah dislike graph 📈

I know there will be many "first watch" posts here considering they just announced the reboot. Can I just say I just had an extremely traumatic experience of romantic discord so watching this has been a complex odyssey of infuriation and healing at the same time. Lena Dunham has done an exceptional job at writing the impossibly devastating ways lives and relationships crumble from the consequences of awful but simply human decisions. I cry every time Marnie and Hannah almost say something to each other. And I find myself too attracted to Adam (I live in NYC now, where do I find one?) i'm half glad i didn't watch it in 2012, I don't think I would have appreciated it enough then. What a precious time capsule.

I am at Season 5 Ep 5 and I had to pause to write this post about how Hannah reaches peak unlikeable around Marnie's wedding and when dating Fran.

But general thoughts so far before the iconic episode which I've seen all over the internet:

Jessa - Loved her so so much but her character got quite random and contrived at some points and felt too meandering... She was the strongest in Season 1 and I loved the rehab plot line with the weird British guy but I feel like the writers were dragging her along for the ride

Marnie - also got lost halfway, i love everything that comes out of her mouth though especially her wedding episode, really brought it back to classic Marnie, but broadly she is just whoever she's fucking at the time which is quite unfortunate cuz I think her deeper psychology is fascinating. I found Ray's sudden deep and undying love for her also quite a random development??

Hannah - I was really rooting for you girl!!!!!!!! Through everything!!!!!!!! I feel like I'd do a better job than her mousy therapist

Special mention to Elijah because i love everything about him and smile whenever he's on screen. I love him and Hannah's relationship. He is the realest ever

Other The Ladies In 2026 - theories

In 2026:

Hannah is a radicalized professor who joins every trendy cause and shes an activist, but she really has no idea what she's talking about. She's that cringy privileged white lady that calls herself an activist, but doesn't actually care about anything but posturing. She teaches her students propaganda as facts, but doesn't practice what she preaches. She might also be pretending to be another race (like a less extreme version of Rachel Dolezal) because she has a mixed child.

Grover is nonbinary, but not because he wants to be, rather because he's influenced by the people his mother surrounds him with, and it's the trendy thing to do.

Marni works in corporate. Maybe at a VC. She married a guy who wears a Patagonia vest and was a meat head in college. She lives in Park Slope and she's really pretentious. She does Pilates and sends her kids to Montessori. She does cringy Tiktok dances.

Shosh is running a PR company she founded that manages influencers. She lives on the Upper West Side. She broke off her engagement when she realized her fiance wasn't as ambitious as her. She regularly hangs out with a group of other single older childless women who complain about dating and how there are no good men left.

Jessa is depressed. She never really did anything with her life. She bounced from job to job, but still can't figure out what she wants to do with her life. She lost custody of her kids and now sees them every other weekend. She doesn't get the male attention that she used to, even though she's still attractive, but she's burned out from men and doesn't like sex anymore. She's still very lost, but she's now also burnt out and depressed and can't really see her life getting better. Life really got to her.

Edit: For context, I'm the same age as they were on the show, and the same age they would be now. I was the 20-something in Brooklyn and never moved out of Brooklyn. My assumptions are based on real people that I know that have similar personalities and are now in their 40s. Yes- it's trendy for upper middle class kids of yuppie parents who were raised by nannies in Brooklyn to be non-binary. Yes, even at 9-10. Yes- I was obsessed with the show and still am. I see Jemima Kirke in Brooklyn Bridge park all the time, but I've never approached her.

Other Elijah Looked Right At Me!

I have no one to be excited about this with so I thought you guys may appreciate it. My bf is but I had to show him a photo of Andrew Rannells because he does know who he is just by name.

I am a huge fan of him since watching Girls. I'll put on anything he's in and even have a signed copy of his book I got off ebay. I also have mini cut-outs of him in my cart with plans to put on top of our xmas tree because Elijah is an angel and a star.

We're visiting NYC for my first time, get here and are looking for the hotel. [I'd love to see Book of Mormon but I got Oh, Mary tickets instead just because Bowen Yang is staring and it'd be cool to see a more known celebrity on Broadway.] So I'm thinking while we're walking around that it would have been so cool to see Andrew Rannells in Book of Mormon when it debuted, I look up and istg there he is walking past me! I audibly gasp and we make eye contact. I got the feeling he didn't want to be bothered so I keep my mouth shut.

I'm still over the moon about it. I'd love to meet him someday but this was a close second.

Season 1 Okayyy-- I REALLY want to watch! But a comment from the first season hurt my feelings so badly that I haven't even come near this show in over a decade... NSFW

The show is brilliant, obviously. And I was loving the first season soooo much, it's so funny and raw and poignant. But... :( you know the scene in S1 when Marnie & Jessa are bonding and discussing losing their virginities, Jessa says

"Sex without boobs is creepy."

And Marnie enthusiastically agrees and then they mock Hannah's body and "teensy" breasts.

Ooof, ouch. Not to exaggerate but this is something that has stuck in my head for years and still runs through my mind pretty regularly.

I am a flat chested woman. I feel like saying "small-breasted" is even being too generous to describe me. It is my biggest insecurity and I think about it every single day and it brings me to tears regularly. Do you know how hard it is to be told basically every day that your body type is undesirable and subpar and even gross? I catch strays every day just for existing I swear.

And this show is praised so much for being so "real" and showing "real bodies" yet I have never seen a woman with A cups depicted in any media, ever. Even a show focused on body positivity and "real bodies" still mock us.

Oooooh okay sorry clearly this is a sensitive subject and trigger point for me lol 😭

Idek what I'm asking really. I guess just looking for some validation? Has anything in the show ever mocked your insecurities? Did you keep watching?

And related to this topic specifically-- does anyone know if there are future comments in the series like this? I can probably grit my teeth and get through this scene lol 🥀... but do they make fun of small-breasted women again or frequently in the show?

I really want to watch but this is the only thing that gives me pause.

Also... please be kind. If I could just "grow thicker skin" or "stop being so insecure" trust me I would lol and wouldn't be posting this. Thank you <3

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Sex in the Series NSFW

I did a rewatch of the series as a 30 year old and whew! I first watched when I was in my teens and Girls was perfect, funny and aspirational. As an adult I’ve been through a lot of these experiences and it was interesting to have a new perspective. 1. Ray is creepy. The older guy that hangs around younger women and eventually sleeps with them. I was the younger woman apologising to the creepy older man while breaking up with him like Shoshana. 2. Men project feelings on to Jessa. When I was younger I thought she was the coolest, now I’m like why is her boss flirting with her. Then her ex comes back, she thinks she’s in control but knowing men I know he’s happy he got laid. And then Adam repeatedly goes after her multiple times, but only she gets the criticism because she’s Hannah’s friend. 3. Hannah does multiple inappropriate things. Showing her vagina to her boss? Giving Ray a blow job? And then she’s always naked and kinda flashing people. 4. Elijah going after Marnie? A lot the men take what they can get and the women go along with it. Elijah and Marnie seem coerced. She was definitely not comfortable. 5. None of the sex even looks enjoyable tbh which I guess is honest. It’s all impulsive and boundary crossing.

Season 2 Rewatch season 2

I am doing a rewatch from the beginning. As I am not I ever finished the series years ago. Anyways watched all of season one and half way through season two. Did I miss something? why does Hannah go from being completely obsessed with Adam to no longer wanting to see him at all? He offered to move in with her and says he loves her. Then she freaks out he gets hit by a car. And next thing I know she doesn’t even want to be around him and is calling the police.
